Inoculation with a selected strain of Metschnikowia pulcherrima as a bioprotective alternative to sulphites for preventing browning of white grape must

    No full text
In this study, the effectiveness of a selected strain of Metschnikowia pulcherrima (MP1) was compared to that of sulphur dioxide for preventing white grape must from browning. Sulphur dioxide was found to drastically reduce oxygen consumption rate, protect hydroxycinnamic acids against oxidation and prevent grape must from browning, even in the presence of laccase. By contrast, supplementation with the selected strain of Metschnikowia pulcherrima (MP1) drastically increased oxygen consumption rate, thus reducing the amount of oxygen available for polyphenol oxidases. In the absence of laccase, this resulted in a decrease in browning and a certain degree of protection of the hydroxycinnamic acids, but in the presence of laccase it was not effective enough. Consequently, the selected strain of Metschnikowia pulcherrima (MP1) can be considered an interesting alternative to sulphur dioxide for preventing browning in white grape must, but only in conditions of healthy grapes. © 2024, International Viticulture and Enology Society. The use of eponyms is still a practice used among clinical, despite the efforts of the morphological community uprooting of medical language. The reason of this study is to make a clarification regarding Terminology Embryologica Gartner duct, mesonephric duct derived structure present in women and gynecobstetric great interest because of their potential pathological complications. We propose amendments with respect to derivatives mesonephric duct and its name

Pathophysiological, immunological, and inflammatory features of long COVID

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause severe global disruption, resulting in significant excess mortality, overwhelming healthcare systems, and imposing substantial social and economic burdens on nations. While most of the attention and therapeutic efforts have concentrated on the acute phase of the disease, a notable proportion of survivors experience persistent symptoms post-infection clearance. This diverse set of symptoms, loosely categorized as long COVID, presents a potential additional public health crisis. It is estimated that 1 in 5 COVID-19 survivors exhibit clinical manifestations consistent with long COVID. Despite this prevalence, the mechanisms and pathophysiology of long COVID remain poorly understood. Alarmingly, evidence suggests that a significant proportion of cases within this clinical condition develop debilitating or disabling symptoms. Hence, urgent priority should be given to further studies on this condition to equip global public health systems for its management. This review provides an overview of available information on this emerging clinical condition, focusing on the affected individuals’ epidemiology, pathophysiological mechanisms, and immunological and inflammatory profiles. Embryonic Annexes

    No full text
In vertebrates, depending on the environment in which an embryo develops, different types of extraembryonic membranes are formed. In placental mammals the following extraembryonic membranes are formed: amnion, yolk sac, allantois, chorion and placenta. Extraembryonic membranes perform functions vital to the embryo. The amnion protects the embryo from drying, the mechanical trauma, temperature changes and adhesions which can distort it. The yolk sac is present in all vertebrates. In mammals allows the formation of the first blood vessels and the first blood, home to the primordial germ cells for some time; however, in fish and birds these have nutritional importance. In birds and mammals such as cattle, sheep and pig the allantois receives urinary wastes; this structure also contributes part of the bladder and at the time of birth becomes the suspensory ligament, urachus. The chorion form chorionic villus, which can produce hormones such as chorionic gonadotropin and human placental lactogen. A portion of the chorionic sac helps form the placenta

La primacía municipalista en las relaciones entre niveles de gobierno en Colombia

    No full text

Energy imbalance gap was associated with body mass index and sex in Latin American adolescents—results from the ELANS study

    No full text
Introduction: Energy imbalance gap (EIG) is defined as the average daily difference between energy intake (EI) and energy expenditure (EE). This study aimed to examine the associations between EIG and sociodemographic and anthropometric variables in the adolescent population of eight Latin America countries. Methods: A total of 680 adolescents aged 15 to 18 were included in this study. The estimation of EI was based on two non-consecutive 24-h dietary recalls. EE was predicted from Schofield equations using physical activity level obtained through the long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Sociodemographic data and anthropometric measurements were also obtained. A descriptive analysis and multilevel linear regression models were used to examine associations between variables. Results: The mean EI, EE, and EIG were 2091.3 kcal, 2067.8 kcal, and 23.5 kcal, respectively. Argentina had the highest EI and EIG, whereas Chile had the lowest EI and EIG. Males had a higher EI (2262.4 kcal) and EE (2172.2 kcal) than females (1930.1 kcal and 2084.5 kcal), respectively (p < 0.05). Overweight subjects had a lower EIG than did underweight and normal-weight subjects (p < 0.05). Subjects with low socioeconomic status (SES) had a lower EE (2047.0 kcal) than those with a high SES (2164.2 kcal) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Sex and BMI were associated with EIG in adolescents from Latin America. mILIB – Un nuevo concepto en Laserterapia

mILIB (Intravascular Laser Irradiation in the Modified Bloodstream) presents itself as one more photobiomodulation technique, among the many therapeutic possibilities we know. The advantage in this case is the possibility of making application in a systemic way in which the organism as a whole is benefited. The use of the red therapeutic laser in a transcutaneous way, has been a great option as an added therapeutic value to the treatment of several pathologies, providing systemic stimuli, similar to hemotherapy. Thus, mILIB presents itself as an effective and increasingly widespread technique for professionals working with photobiomodulation.mILIB (Irradiación láser intravascular en el torrente sanguíneo modificado) se presenta como una técnica de fotobiomodulación más, entre las muchas posibilidades terapéuticas que conocemos. BASECOL2023 scientific content

Context. The global context of making numerous data produced by researchers available requires collecting and organising the data, assigning meaningful metadata, and presenting the data in a meaningful and homogeneous way. The BASECOL database, which collects inelastic rate coefficients for application to the interstellar medium and to circumstellar and cometary atmospheres, meets those requirements. Aims. We aim to present the scientific content of the BASECOL2023 edition. Methods. While the previous versions relied on finding rate coefficients in the literature, the current version is populated with published results sent by the producers of data. The paper presents the database, the type of data that can be found, the type of metadata that are used, and the Virtual Atomic and Molecular Data Centre (VAMDC) standards that are used for the metadata. Finally, we present the different datasets species by species. Results. As the BASECOL database, interconnected with the VAMDC e-infrastructure, uses the VAMDC standards, the collisional data can be extracted with tools using VAMDC standards and can be associated with spectroscopic data extracted from other VAMDC connected databases such as the Cologne database for molecular spectroscopy (CDMS), the jet propulsion laboratory molecular spectroscopy database (JPL), and the high-resolution transmission molecular absorption database (HITRAN). © The Authors 2024.Universidad Autónoma de Chil
