How to be a conduit: performance, translation and the reflexive poetics of Jerome Rothenberg
No full textThis essay is an exploration of the difficult ethics and possibilities of Jerome Rothenberg’s ethnopoetics/omnipoetics and total translation which includes performance, assemblage and reflexive poetics. I discuss Rothenberg’s performances such as the “gift events,” the Horse Songs of Frank Mitchell as well as the poem “Vienna Blood” and works of poetics. I work through complex ethical terrain in Rothenberg’s ethnopoetics which sometimes re-enact the erasure of source intertext cultures via dehistoricisation. I then show how Rothenberg’s methods of performance, total translation, reflexivity and collaborative poetics create friction and open dialogue. His techniques of performance and approaches to poetics and total translation foreground embodiment and reflexivity thus offering the possibility of an ethics and a “poesis” that must be considered if acting as a “conduit for others.” Using the metaphor of a river and the idea of an embodied friction in the reading and writing process, I think through how Rothenberg’s poesis arrest the flow of transfer. The poet, performer or translator, as well as readers and listeners, encounter a poem through their bodies and contexts, thus they are conduits and mediators themselves

Ferramenta de análise para identificar e categorizar o jornalismo transmídia
No full textThis paper conceptualizes, justifies, and develops an analytical tool to determine whether journalistic content can be considered transmedia. To develop it, a comprehensive review of the scientific literature on the subject was conducted, and its structure and scope were then defined and evaluated by a group of experts in the field using the Delphi method. The instrument is organized around 19 variables distributed accross four blocks: a) basic features, b) type of content generated by the media, c) role of the user in the expansion of the story, and d) type of transmedia journalism. The specialists identify three key elements for recognizing this strategy in the creation of journalistic content: media convergence, narrative expansion of the story, and the participatory role of users. Although there was full agreement on how the media generate their journalistic expansions, this consensus was not observed regarding the variants of transmedia journalism investigated. Therefore, the instrument includes a new categorization that distinguishes between circumstantial and permanent transmedia and introduces a new element to be considered in transmedia: fact-checking.Este trabajo conceptualiza, justifica y desarrolla una herramienta de análisis para determinar si un contenido periodístico puede ser considerado transmedia. Para elaborarla, se realizó una amplia revisión de la producción científica en esta materia y, a continuación, se definió su estructura y alcance, los que fueron evaluados por un grupo de expertos en el área mediante el método Delphi. El instrumento se articula en torno a 19 variables distribuidas en cuatro bloques: a) rasgos básicos, b) tipo de contenido generado por el medio, c) rol del usuario en la expansión del relato, y d) tipo de periodismo transmedia. Los especialistas establecen tres elementos clave para reconocer esta estrategia en la generación de contenidos periodísticos: la convergencia de medios, la expansión narrativa del relato y el rol participativo de los usuarios. Aunque se constató plena conformidad con la forma en la que los medios generan sus expansiones periodísticas, ese consenso no se percibe respecto de las variantes de periodismo transmedia investigadas. Por ello, el instrumento incluye una nueva categorización que distingue entre transmedia coyuntural y permanente y añade un nuevo elemento a considerar en lo transmedia: la verificación de los hechos o fact checking.Este trabalho conceitualiza, justifica e desenvolve uma ferramenta de análise para determinar se um conteúdo jornalístico pode ser considerado transmídia. Para elaborá-la, foi realizada uma ampla revisão da produção científica sobre o tema e, em seguida, definiu-se a sua estrutura e alcance, que foram avaliados por um grupo de especialistas na área através do método Delphi. O instrumento articula-se em torno de 19 variáveis distribuídas em quatro blocos: a) características básicas, b) tipo de conteúdo gerado pelo meio, c) papel do usuário na expansão da narrativa e d) tipo de jornalismo transmídia. Os especialistas estabelecem três elementos-chave para reconhecer essa estratégia na geração de conteúdos jornalísticos: a convergência de mídias, a expansão narrativa do relato e o papel participativo dos usuários. Embora tenha sido constatada plena concordância quanto à forma como os meios geram as suas expansões jornalísticas, esse consenso não se observa em relação às variantes do jornalismo transmídia pesquisadas. Por isso, o instrumento inclui uma nova categorização que distingue entre transmídia conjuntural e permanente. Além disso, adiciona um novo elemento a considerar no transmídia: a verificação dos factos ou fact checking
