Theoretical and experimental observation of border-collision bifurcations, coexisting attractors, and complex Arnol’d tongues in a driven piecewise-constant oscillator

    No full text
Text学術雑誌論文 / Journal ArticleThis paper investigates the behavior of one of the simplest Filippov systems, referred to as a piecewise-constant oscillator. We establish both experimentally and numerically that the system exhibits hysteresis behavior characterized by the existence of distinct entrance and exit boundaries of typical Arnol’d tongues. Furthermore, complex bifurcation structures caused by border-collision bifurcations (BCBs) are shown to generate attractors that coexist at a single point in parameter space. In a given parameter space, in the neighborhood of BCBs, it is known that coexisting attractors can be seen. This work presents a novel analytical derivation of successive border-collision fold and pitchfork bifurcation boundaries as well as the experimental observation of distinct exits from and entrances to Arnol’d tongues. These experimental findings were observed in a physically realized oscillator circuit.journal articl

Seasonal Events in May: Prayer and Medicinal Benefits

text紀要論文 / Departmental Bulletin PaperJapan celebrates seasonal events throughtout the year from January to December. Many traditional seasonal events incorporate customs that originateed in ancient China. First, the emperor and the aristocracy accepted them, and then the events spread from the warrior class to the masses. In modern times, Japanese people have begun to incorporate Western seasonal events. These events are effective for sales promotion and advertising, so the events will continue as long as they bring economic benefits. While it may be inevitable that the essence of the event will change, it is better than nothing. The traditional seasonal event in May is Tango no Sekku (Boyʼs Day celebration). After the Meiji Restoration, Golden Week and Motherʼs Day became new seasonal events. In May, the climate quickly changes from spring to summer. People are more likely to fall ill because temperature changes are difficult to adapt to, and food is more susceptible to damage due to the rising temperature. In the days before air conditioning, refrigeration, and medical technology, infant mortality rates were high, and life expectancy was shorter. The May events embody peopleʼs reliance on prayer and medicinal herbs to ward off evil. The medicinal properties of the iris are effective during Boyʼs Day celebration. Yomogi (mugwort) is another medicinal plant and an essential ingredient of kusa-mochi (grass cakes). May, has the 88th day after the first day of spring, and is the season of freshly harvested tea. Tea also has mild medicinal properties. While expecting the medicinal effects of plants, people wished for the safe growth of boys and the continuation of the family from generation to generation by entrusting them with carp banners and May dolls. Today, major holidays give a boost to the tourism industry, and Motherʼs Day drives commerce to hold events and sell related products. The traditional Boyʼs Day celebration on May 5, has also incorporated commercial activities.departmental bulletin pape

Alignment-free diffuser film composed of dielectric multilayers and an optical path conversion layer for mini-LED backlights

Text学術雑誌論文 / Journal ArticleThis paper proposes a novel structure of a diffuser film designed for mini-LED backlights. The proposed film is composed of dielectric multilayers and a micro-prisms layer. The dielectric multilayers function as an angle filter does not transmit blue light directly above the LED and only transmits blue light with an incident angle of a certain degree or more. The micro-prism layer controls the direction of the LED lights and multiplies the LED lights laterally. This combination of the angle filter and the micro-prisms layer makes the illuminance distribution uniform without requiring alignment between the LED chips and the diffuser film. Our proposed diffuser film features efficiency, uniformity, and thickness. Our film reduces the number of LEDs by a 75 percentage. The luminance distribution with our film becomes more uniform than conventional diffuser plate. The thickness of our film is only 50 μm, which reduces the thickness of the backlight.Copyright 2025 Society of Photo‑Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
