The effectiveness of virtual interviews for postgraduate orthodontic residencies in North America
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to collect information regarding how orthodontic program directors are conducting their resident interviews due to changes brought about by COVID-19, their beliefs about the advantages and disadvantages ofadapting to a new process, and their thoughts after the 2020 application cycle. Methods: Two surveys, an initial and follow-up, were sent to all 74 North Americanpostgraduate orthodontic residency program directors/chairs. Anonymous responseswere analyzed. Results: Thirty-five of 74 program directors responded (47.3%) to the initial survey, and 85.7% (n=30) of the program directors who responded to the initials urvey also responded to the follow-up survey. Program directors felt thought the top three advantages of virtual interviews were: 1) “Cost-effectiveness for candidates;” 2) “Saves travel time for candidates;” and 3) “safe environment from COVID-19.” They believed the top three disadvantages of virtual interviews were: 1) “Assessing interpersonal skills/personality;” 2) “Inability to explore the city;” and 3) “Lack ofpersonal interaction.” Nearly half of the program directors (46.7%) did not believe virtual interviews are as valuable as in-person interviews. Conclusions: Most respondents did not believe virtual interviews were as effective as in-person interviews.This study may be useful when considering the use of virtual interviews in the future,whether for another pandemic or if an applicant is unable to attend an in-personinterview
A Cognitive Protocol for Individuals with Concussion
Background: Concussions have been identified in the literature to cause impairments in several cognitive domains. Limited research exists for cognitive interventions for occupational therapists (OTs) working with concussions and post-concussion syndrome (PCS) using a bottom-up approach that targets domains of cognition. This pilot study responds to these shortcomings by identifying and implementing evidence-based treatment options for OTs working with individuals with concussion and PCS to mitigate associated cognitive deficits. Method: The researcher included participants, ages 18 years or older, who are three days’ to six months’ post-concussion with concussions or PCS in this study. The researcher administered a cognitive protocol over the course of 12 weeks for a maximum of three-one-hour weekly visits to improve subdomains of cognition. Results: Among the participants (n = 8), data reflect improvements in physical manifestation of concussion symptoms as evidenced by decreased patient report of symptoms on the Post- Concussion Symptom Scale. The data trends illustrate improvements on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment post-intervention scores as compared to pre-intervention scores, indicative of improved cognition among respective subdomains of cognition. Conclusion: To maximize the opportunity for neuroplastic changes among individuals with concussion or PCS, OTs can use the cognitive protocol as a guideline for cognitive remediation rehabilitation
Occupational Health and Safety for Commercial Pilots During the Coronavirus Pandemic
BACKGROUND
The aviation industry has been growing with the number of aircraft pilots jumping from 590,038 in 2015 to 664,563 in 2019. With an increasing demand for distribution of cargo, a review of the effects of work-related stressors during the coronavirus pandemic and, further, a solution to increase the health and well-being of individuals in the industry is essential. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) addresses fatigue and routinely revises regulations which alleviate job stress; however, the coronavirus pandemic has added new stressors to the aviation industry.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the pandemic on pilots perceived stress. In particular, the roll out of policies and lockdown procedures was of interest. The secondary objective of this study is to identify a role for occupational therapy in decreasing stress and burnout for this population
Effects of Accelerated Aging on Color Stability and Surface Roughness of a Biomimetic Composite: An In Vitro Study
The aim of this in vitro study is to compare the color stability and surface roughness of conventional and self-blending resin composites before and after staining and aging. Three conventional composites (Filtek Z350, IPS Empress Direct, and Estalite Palfique LX5) and one self-blending (Omnichroma) resin composite were used in this study. Sixty discs were prepared and polymerized in a metal mold (n = 15 per group). Samples were then finished and polished by Layan discs. Color testing and roughness testing were measured as a baseline (T0) by a spectrophotometer and profilometry. Samples were then stained with tea for 24 h, water aged for 30 days, and then a second reading (T1) was performed. Finishing and polishing were performed again, and a third reading (T2) was collected. All groups showed significant decrease in all color parameters (L*, a*, and b*); however, after polishing, all groups showed color enhancements matching pre-experiment baseline colors in all color parameters (L*, a*, and b*), except for Estelite Palfique LX5, which showed a significant difference in L relative to the baseline. Furthermore, Estalite Palfique LX5 showed increased roughness after staining compared to the baseline, unlike other groups. No significant differences in color stability were found between self-blending composites and other composite materials. Accelerated aging and staining had minimal effects on the surface roughness of self-blending composite

Abstract
ED clinicians typically discharge patients on 5-day regimens of azithromycin and corticosteroids after an acute COPD exacerbation. This article discusses various studies that evaluated chronic azithromycin therapy to prevent exacerbations in patients with COPD. Although ED clinicians typically do not prescribe chronic medications, they can provide patient-centered care and determine a patient\u27s follow-up to see if chronic azithromycin is needed

A Qualitative Thematic Analysis of Addressing the Why: An Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare Symposium
Abstract
Healthcare managers and clinicians are inefficient in the processes of workflows and documentation. The inefficiency is due in part by increasing demands of insurance companies, regulatory demands from the government, and human error. Artificial intelligence (AI) can improve healthcare processes by decreasing variability, thus improving patient and physician experience and patient outcomes. This project brings together a panel of five experts to discuss problems in medicine and some of the tools available through AI and technology to address these problems. The symposium modeled a flipped classroom format. The first five 20-minute modules were uploaded to a web-based platform for viewing in advance of the 60-minute moderated roundtable (Zoom, Zoom Video Communications, San Jose, CA, USA). The following themes emerged after reviewing the transcribed data: data privacy and access (N=3, number of times identified); process improvement (N=2); physician experience (N=1); value in data (N=2); and bias in healthcare and AI (N=3). For AI to become implemented on a large scale in healthcare, many areas will need continued discussion and research, including a continued look into how AI can add value to workflow and knowledge augmentation. In addition, standards for the implementation of AI and a methodical approach to the analysis of the effectiveness of algorithms coupled with training of healthcare professionals in the language of AI algorithms will be helpful to ensure that AI is integrated safely
