Politistudentene: hvem er de og hvorfor vil de bli politi?

Previous research has indicated that police students’ social background has changed in that their parents have much higher education than before. Students’ perceptions of and attitudes toward police training and police work has, however, changed little, which can be seen as a paradox. This research has primarily analysed survey data. We have combined qualitative interview data with data from public administrative registers. First, we find that police students are not interested in academic and intellectual pursuits. Theoretical work in offices and in front of computers is considered negatively as boring, one-sided, and resulting in decay and the «fading away» of the employees. Practical work outdoors, however, has positive connotations. These kind of preferences and work values fit nicely with our analyses of the register data, which show that most police students are not children of academics. Our findings, thus, show far greater accordance between the students’ values, attitudes and beliefs, and their parents’ level of education than previous research has shown

No full textHva mener studentene ved Politihøgskolen om utdanningen og den operative opplæringen? I denne rapporten undersøkes dette med utgangspunkt i en spørreskjemaundersøkelse av kullet som gikk ut fra PHS våren 2013. Resultatene viser at det er liten dekning for påstandene om at det store flertallet av studentene ved Politihøgskolen er svært misfornøyde med utdanningen generelt, og den operative opplæringen spesielt. Mange av studentene opplever at utdanningen har gitt dem den kompetansen de har behov for. Samtidig viser resultatene at det er delte meninger innad blant studentene, og at et relativt stort mindretall opplever at de mangler viktig operativ kompetanse når de går ut fra PHS

Perceptions of interprofessional collaboration
Get PDFInterprofessional collaboration has been described both as an opportunity to meet the demands of a complex society, but also as a potential threat to professional autonomy. Interprofessional relationships are central in collaborative efforts, and there is a need to investigate the psychosocial processes involved. In the present study, we have investigated how professionals in a collaborative effort perceive collaboration, and how these perceptions are organized. We have used an adaptation of the Perception of Interprofessional Collaboration Model Questionnaire—PINCOM-Q—to develop and test a model of collaboration perceptions in a sample of professionals working within local crime prevention at the community level. Using a confirmatory factor analysis approach, we have found support for a three-dimensional conceptualisation of how interprofessional collaboration is perceived. We have labelled the dimensions in the model as follows: Group Climate, Influence, and Personal Motivation. Our results implicate that the development of interprofessional collaboration should emphasize supportive group communication, an equal distribution of group influence, and finally, a personal value outcome gained from participating in the collaboration
Hidden patterns behind doping use among Norwegians 18-19 years old
Get PDFThere is a growing public concern about the increasing use of performance enhancing drugs (doping) in sport, exercise and fitness activities. Research has been carried out to answer the question “Why do exercising young people use performance enhancing drugs?” The explanations of most quantitative researches are based on bivariate statistical analysis. But there are reasons to believe that one factor or motive is not suffice to explain such a complex and stigmatized behaviour. More probably, there may be clusters of psychological and societal, more or less hidden, reasons behind such behaviour. This study uses EFA (exploratory factor analysis) and combines sets of variables, in order to reveal hidden factors or patterns in the empirical data. Our study indicates that this kind of doping use should be interpreted within a social context where youths struggle with their lives, making sense of societal demands and expectations, using the “tools” they find fitting, and make their choices meaningful and functional. In other words, doping has something to do with muscles, self-presentation and meaning trying to build identities in a world where the body is the main symbol of value and morality
