    PHARMACOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE ORAL WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OF Stachytarpheta jamaicensis ROOT EXTRACT GEL IN WISTAR RATS

    The Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L) Vahl root contains bioactive compounds like saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenols, and terpenoids, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This study investigates the wound healing effects of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L) Vahl root extract gel in oral mucosa. The experiment involved 28 male Wistar rats, divided into four groups: a positive control treated with povidone iodine 10%, a negative control treated with gel base, and two experimental groups treated with 6% and 10% S. jamaicensis root extract gels. The gel was applied twice daily, and wound healing was assessed by epithelial thickness, inflammation cell and hydroxyproline content. Both concentrations of S. jamaicensis root extract gel significantly enhanced wound healing, as shown by increased epithelial thickness, inflammation cell and hydroxyproline content levels compared to the negative control. These findings suggest that S. jamaicensis root extract gel effectively promotes wound healing in the excision wound model

    Lead (Pb) pollution in soil is a serious problem that reduces crop productivity. One approach to address this issue is through bioremediation and Phytoremediation, using microorganism and plants that can tolerate and bind heavy metals. This study examine the potential of Zinnia elegans (Jacq.) and Bacillus sp., and in combination to reduce Pb in soil. The experiment lasted 60 days using a completely randomized design with six treatments: P0 (control, Pb-contaminated soil without plants or bacteria), P1 (Z. elegans only), P2 (Bacillus sp. only), P3 (combination), P4 (non-contaminated soil with Z. elegans and Bacillus sp.), and P5 (non-contaminated soil with Z. elegans only). The results showed that treatment P3 reduced Pb concentration by 62.31 ppm, while no significant differences were observed among treatments in terms of plant growth parameters. Combining Z. elegans with Bacillus sp. may serve as a practical approach to enhance Pb remediation in contaminated soils

    This study aims to determine the shape, color, and location of sori as well as the presence or absence of annulus in ferns (Pteridophyta) of the Polypodiaceae and Tectariaceae families in the Ato Watu Waterfall area, Amonggedo District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The method used in this study was qualitative descriptive research with an exploratory method by exploring the Ato Watu Waterfall area to collect fern samples that had sori. The results of the study found six species of ferns in the Polypodiaceae family, including Drynaria quercifolia (L.), J, Lemmaphyllum accedens (Blume), Leptochilus henryi (Baker) X.C.Zhang, Microsorum membranifolium (R.Br.) Ching, Pyrrosia longifolia (Burm.fil.) C.V.Morton, Selliguea heterocarpa BI., FI. Jav (Mehltreter, et al., 2010: 835-838) And 5 species of ferns from the Tectriaceae family, including Tectaria angulata (Sw.) S. Chandra, Tectaria aurita (Sw.) S. Chandra, Tectaria barberi (Hook), Tectaria devaxa (Kze) Copel, Tectaria fuscipes (Wall. ex Bedd) C. Chr,. Of the 6 species of the Polypodiaceae family, 5 species of the Tectariaceae family found, they have different sorus characteristics, and each species has an annulus (Shin & Keun, 2017: 317-320)

    Kurixalus absconditus sp. nov., a new species of tree frog of the genus Kurixalus, described from West Kalimantan on the basis of molecular phylogenetic and morphological evidence. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of following morphological characters: having smaller body size, more prominent of mandibular symphysis, skin smooth on throat, vomerine odontophores two oblique series touching anterior corner of choanae and widely separated, vomerine teeth thick, buccal cavity narrow and deep, choanae with teardrop shaped, single vocal slit, weakly crenulated dermal fringe on fore- and hindlimbs

    Southeast Asian avifauna is under threat from both habitat loss and illegal poaching, yet the region’s rich biodiversity remains understudied. Here, we uncover cryptic species-level diversity in the Sunda Blue Robin (Myiomela diana), a songbird complex endemic to Javan (subspecies diana) and Sumatran (subspecies sumatrana) mountains. Taxonomic inquiry into these populations has previously been hampered by a lack of DNA material and the birds’ general scarcity, especially sumatrana which is only known from few localities. We demonstrate fundamental bioacoustic differences in courtship song paired with important distinctions in plumage saturation and tail length that combine to suggest species-level treatment for the two taxa. Treated separately, both taxa are independently threatened by illegal poaching and habitat loss, and demand conservation action. Our study highlights a case of underestimated avifaunal diversity that is in urgent need of revision in the face of imminent threats to species survival
