    Strategie di intercomprensione in letteratura un confronto tra lettura e ascolto di una poesia in italiano tra partecipanti di lingue romanze e inglese

    L'obiettivo di questa ricerca è definire un potenziale profilo di studenti di italiano come lingua addizionale che potrebbero utilizzare la letteratura come materiale autentico fin dall'inizio del loro corso di studi. Nell'insegnamento di una lingua straniera, la letteratura è spesso sconsigliata ai principianti (Spaliviero, 2020). Tuttavia, i risultati di questa ricerca mostrano che, senza conoscenza della lingua italiana, un particolare profilo di partecipanti può utilizzare strategie che consentono un certo livello di comprensione di un testo poetico. Questo studio mira a osservare le strategie spontanee di Intercomprensione nella lettura e nell’ascolto dei primi sette terzetti de La Divina Commedia di Dante Alighieri. I profili dei partecipanti includono utenti di tre lingue diverse (inglese, spagnolo e catalano) che non hanno mai studiato italiano. Sono state prese in considerazione le biografie linguistiche dei trenta partecipanti, insieme alle loro abitudini di lettura, percorsi di studio e carriere professionali. I partecipanti sono stati intervistati via Zoom attraverso interviste semi-strutturate registrate. L'analisi qualitativa dei dati delle interviste è stata condotta con il software Atlas.ti. L'analisi dei dati suggerisce che i bilingui di catalano e spagnolo, a differenza degli altri due gruppi, compensano la loro mancanza di conoscenza dell'italiano con inferenze sul funzionamento della lingua riflettendo sulle corrispondenze morfo-fonologiche promosse dalla conoscenza di due lingue della stessa famiglia linguistica. Tuttavia, i partecipanti abituati a leggere letteratura e poesia per piacere hanno un vantaggio ancora maggiore nella comprensione e interpretazione dei versi di Dante.The objective of this research is to define the potential profile of students of Italian as an additional language who could use literature as authentic material from the beginning of their course of study. Literature in a foreign language classroom has often been discouraged at a beginner level (Spaliviero, 2020). However, the results provided by this research show that, with no knowledge of the Italian language, a specific profile of participants can use strategies that guide a certain level of comprehension of a poetic text. This research aims to observe the spontaneous reading and listening Intercomprehension strategies of Dante Alighieri's first seven tercets of the Divine Comedy. The three profiles of participants consist of users of three languages (English, Spanish, and Catalan) who have never been instructed in Italian. The linguistic biographies of the thirty participants have been taken into consideration, together with their reading habits, educational backgrounds, and professional careers. The participants were interviewed via Zoom through recorded semi-structured interviews. Qualitative data analysis of the interviews was conducted using the software Atlas.ti. The data analysis performed leads us to believe that bilinguals of Catalan and Spanish, in contrast with the other two groups, compensate for their lack of awareness of the Italian language with inferences about the operation of the language by reflecting on the morpho-phonologic correspondences fostered by the knowledge of two languages from the same linguistic family. However, the participants who are used to reading literature and poetry for pleasure have an even bigger advantage in understanding and interpreting Dante’s verses.El objetivo de esta investigación es definir el perfil de estudiantes de italiano como lengua adicional que optimizaría la utilización de la literatura como material auténtico desde el principio de su aprendizaje de la lengua. A menudo se ha desaconsejado el uso de la literatura en el aula de lenguas extranjeras en el nivel inicial (Spaliviero, 2020). Sin embargo, los resultados aportados por esta investigación muestran que, sin tener conocimientos de lengua italiana, un perfil específico de participantes puede utilizar estrategias que guían un cierto nivel de comprensión de un texto poético. El objetivo de esta investigación es observar las estrategias de intercomprensión lectora y auditiva espontáneas de los siete primeros tercetos de La Divina Comedia de Dante Alighieri. Los tres perfiles de participantes corresponden al de usuarios de distintas lenguas (inglés, español y catalán) que nunca han estudiado italiano. Se han tenido en cuenta las biografías lingüísticas de los treinta participantes, así como sus hábitos de lectura, su formación académica y su trayectoria profesional. Los participantes fueron entrevistados a través de Zoom mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas grabadas. El análisis cualitativo de los datos de las entrevistas se llevó a cabo con el programa informático Atlas.ti. El análisis de datos realizado demuestra que los bilingües de catalán y castellano, a diferencia de los otros dos grupos, compensan su desconocimiento de la lengua italiana con inferencias sobre el funcionamiento de la lengua reflexionando sobre las correspondencias morfofonológicas propiciadas por el conocimiento de dos lenguas de la misma familia lingüística. Sin embargo, los participantes acostumbrados a leer literatura y poesía por placer tienen una ventaja aún mayor para comprender la interpretación de los versos de Dante.L'objectiu d'aquesta investigació és definir el perfil potencial dels estudiants d'italià com a llengua addicional que podrien utilitzar la literatura com a material autèntic des del començament del curs d'estudi. Sovint s'ha desaconsellat l'ús de la literatura a l'aula de llengües estrangeres al nivell inicial (Spaliviero, 2020). Tot i això, els resultats aportats per aquesta investigació mostren que, sense tenir coneixements de llengua italiana, un perfil específic de participants pot utilitzar estratègies que els guien cap a un cert nivell de comprensió d'un text poètic. L´objectiu d´aquesta investigació és observar les estratègies d´intercomprensió lectora i auditiva espontànies dels set primers tercets de La Divina Commedia de Dante Alighieri.     Comunicación digital y fondos europeos NextGenerationEU: análisis de los portales web de las administraciones españolas

    El binomio comunicación-ayudas públicas se está volviendo cada vez más decisivo, ya que los fondos proporcionados por la UE están vinculados a la obligación por parte de las administraciones gestoras de llevar a cabo una comunicación social efectiva. Por primera vez, Europa ha acordado emitir deuda pública para afrontar las consecuencias generadas por la Covid-19. Para ello, ha creado el instrumento NextGenerationEU, dotado con 809.000 millones de euros, con el objetivo de lograr una UE más digitalizada, sostenible e innovadora. Entre los países que más se han beneficiado se encuentra España, que ha otorgado un papel protagónico a sus 19 regiones (Comunidades y Ciudades Autónomas) para canalizar y estructurar los fondos. Asimismo, para asegurar su adecuada difusión, la UE estableció la necesidad de que los Estados miembros crearan un portal web que actuara como ventanilla única. España creó el suyo propio e instó a las diferentes regiones a hacer lo mismo. Por lo tanto, este estudio explora si las regiones han creado un sitio web que recopile información sobre NextGeneration y evalúa su calidad. Para ello, se creó un protocolo compuesto por ocho parámetros y 65 indicadores. La Comunidad Valenciana, Cataluña y Aragón son las regiones con mejor desempeño, mientras que Canarias, Navarra y Ceuta son las más deficientes. The communication-public aid binomial is becoming more decisive because the funds provided by the EU are linked to the obligation on the part of the managing administrations to carry out effective social communication. For the first time, Europe has agreed to issue public debt to deal with the consequences created by Covid-19. To this end, it has created the NextGenerationEU instrument, endowed with €809 billion, with the aim of achieving a more digitalized, sustainable and innovative EU. Among the countries that have benefited the most is Spain, which has given a leading role to its 19 regions (Autonomous Communities and Cities) in channelling and structuring the funds. Likewise, to ensure their proper dissemination, the EU enacted the need for Member States to create a website to act as a one-stop shop. Spain created its own and urged the different regions to do the same. Therefore, this paper explores whether regions have created a website that brings together Next Generation information and measures its quality. For this purpose, a protocol was created consisting of eight parameters and 65 indicators. The Valencian Community, Catalonia and Aragon are the regions with the best performance, while the Canary Islands, Navarre and Ceuta are the most deficient

    The science of art theft: using data to identify criminal patterns, 1990-2022

From the perception of flashy fictional thieves to unintentionally misleading monetary claims, the general public and some art and security professionals have a distorted vision of the scope of the criminal enterprise. As there is an alarming lack of empirical studies into the matter, this study aims to remedy the issue through the elaboration of a database to find common characteristics and aspects of interest amongst multiple art heists from the last three decades to provide a better understanding of crucial theft traits such as defeated security measures, methods of deception, timing and target selection, use of weapons and insider participation impact. Results indicate thieves tend to use brute force to defeat security measures; diversions and deceptions are a standard, uniform trends are present in absolute timing matters, and neither the use of weapons nor insiders appears to be the norm

    Aquesta tesi doctoral avalua l'impacte i la implementació d'una Unitat Liderada per Llevadores (MLU) en els resultats de salut materna i neonatal, així com la satisfacció materna dins del sistema sanitari espanyol. Utilitzant una metodologia mixta paral·lela convergent, el projecte de recerca inclou tres estudis interconnectats: una avaluació qualitativa fenomenològica de la satisfacció materna després de la implementació de la MLU, una comparació quantitativa dels resultats materns i neonatals entre la MLU i la Unitat Obstètrica tradicional (OU) dins del mateix hospital, i una anàlisi de tendències quantitatives per avaluar la implementació i els efectes de la primera MLU en el Sistema Nacional de Salut espanyol. Els resultats indiquen que el model de MLU ofereix una atenció segura i eficaç, promou experiències de part positives i redueix significativament les intervencions mèdiques innecessàries, amb un potencial per reduir el consum de recursos sanitaris. Les dones que van rebre atenció a la MLU van experimentar menys parts instrumentals, menys epidurals i menys episiotomies, amb taxes més altes de parts vaginals espontanis. No obstant això, el suport sostingut i la inversió en aquestes unitats són essencials per mantenir aquests beneficis. La implementació exitosa del model de MLU en el sistema sanitari espanyol confirma la seva viabilitat i el seu potencial per a una aplicació més àmplia en el territori.This doctoral thesis evaluates the impact and implementation of a Midwifery-Led Unit (MLU) on maternal and neonatal health outcomes, as well as maternal satisfaction within the Spanish healthcare system. Employing a convergent parallel mixed methodology, the research project includes three interconnected studies: a qualitative phenomenological assessment of maternal satisfaction post-MLU implementation, a quantitative comparison of maternal and neonatal outcomes between the MLU and the traditional Obstetric Unit (OU) within the same hospital, and a quantitative trend analysis to evaluate the implementation and effects of the first MLU in the Spanish National Health System. The findings indicate that the MLU model offers safe and effective care, promotes positive birthing experiences, and significantly reduces unnecessary medical interventions, with the potential to reduce the consumption of healthcare resources. Women who received care in the MLU experienced fewer instrumental births, epidurals, and episiotomies, with higher rates of spontaneous vaginal births. However, sustained support and investment in these units are essential to maintain these benefits. The successful implementation of the MLU model in the Spanish Healthcare System confirms its feasibility and potential for broader application in the region.Programa de Doctorat en Biomedicin

    Anàlisi de la implantació d’eines d’intel·ligència artificial en la comunicació interna: viabilitat, beneficis i riscos

Curs 2024-2025Aquest estudi analitza la implantació d’eines d’intel·ligència artificial (IA) en la comunicació interna empresarial; un àmbit en expansió que transforma la gestió de la informació, la cultura corporativa i l’eficiència operativa. L’objectiu principal és avaluar la viabilitat d’aquestes tecnologies, centrant-se en el context espanyol. Es plantegen com a objectius específics identificar els beneficis i riscos associats, així com dissenyar estratègies per a una integració responsable. Mitjançant una metodologia qualitativa, es combinen la revisió de literatura, amb entrevistes a experts (Ulises Cortés, Karma Peiró i Patricia Ventura), i un estudi de cas de l’empresa IDIADA, pionera en la integració d’aquestes eines. Aquest enfocament permet contrastar teoria i pràctica, responent a un buit existent en la recerca. Els resultats mostren que, tot i els avantatges operatius, la IA planteja riscos ètics, privacitat i deshumanització. L’estudi conclou que cal garantir transparència, formació i preservar la dimensió humana per assegurar una implantació efectiva i ètica.This study analyses the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in internal business communication, an expanding field that is transforming information management, corporate culture and operational efficiency. The main objective is to assess the viability of these technologies, focusing on the Spanish context. Specific objectives are to identify the associated benefits and risks, as well as to design strategies for responsible integration. Using a qualitative methodology, a literature review is combined with interviews with experts (Ulises Cortés, Karma Peiró and Patricia Ventura), and a case study of the company IDIADA, a pioneer in the integration of these tools. This approach makes it possible to contrast theory and practice, responding to an existing gap in research. The results show that, despite the operational advantages, AI poses ethical risks, deprivation and dehumanisation. The study concludes that transparency, training and preservation of the human dimension must be guaranteed to ensure an effective and ethical implementation

    A Europe-wide characterization of the external exposome: A spatio-temporal analysis

    Background: Harmonised data on external environmental exposures are essential for multi-cohort exposome studies. This paper describes the development of fine-spatial resolution models and resulting exposure maps for 33 major exposome factors -including physical-chemical, built, social, and food environments-across Europe from 2000 to 2020, and examines their spatial and temporal interrelations. Methods: New fine spatial resolution Europe-wide models were developed for annual/monthly average air pollution, daily temperature, and annual-average road-traffic noise, combined with post-processing of existing data on green, blue, and grey spaces (imperviousness), walkability, light-at-night, and urbanicity. Exposure metrics relevant for epidemiological studies were developed for all exposome factors, with correlations calculated at European and country levels. Stability and trends over time were assessed for 18 factors. Results: At the European level, most environmental factors showed weak correlations (R < 0.4), except NO2, which showed moderate to strong correlations with built environment factors. Country-level correlations varied. Annual average exposure surfaces were stable over time, with strong correlations between early and late time points for all factors except O3​ (R = 0.66). Trends indicated decreases in air pollution and increases in temperature, green space, and imperviousness, while trends in light-at-night and O3​ were mixed across Europe. Conclusions: This comprehensive analysis of the temporal and spatial relationships between external exposome factors across a large geographical area show low to moderate correlations between exposome factors. Annual average exposure surfaces were also stable over time across Europe. These findings support both the utility of multi-exposure epidemiological analyses, and that any modest temporal misalignment between exposure assessment and follow-up period of health studies is not critical.     Estimation of the invariant density for discretely observed diffusion processes: impact of the sampling and of the asynchronicity

    We aim at estimating in a non-parametric way the density π of the stationary distribution of a d-dimensional stochastic differential equation ()∈[0,], for ≥2, from the discrete observations of a finite sample 0,…, with 0=0<1<⋯<=:. We propose a kernel density estimator and we study its convergence rates for the pointwise estimation of the invariant density under anisotropic Hölder smoothness constraints. First of all, we find some conditions on the discretization step that ensures it is possible to recover the same rates as if the continuous trajectory of the process was available. As proven in the recent work [Amorino C, Gloter A. Minimax rate of estimation for invariant densities associated to continuous stochastic differential equations over anisotropic Holder classes; 2021. arXiv preprint arXiv:2110.02774], such rates are optimal and new in the context of density estimator. Then we deal with the case where such a condition on the discretization step is not satisfied, which we refer to as the intermediate regime. In this new regime we identify the convergence rate for the estimation of the invariant density over anisotropic Hölder classes, which is the same convergence rate as for the estimation of a probability density belonging to an anisotropic Hölder class, associated to n iid random variables 1,…,. After that we focus on the asynchronous case, in which each component can be observed at different time points. Even if the asynchronicity of the observations complexifies the computation of the variance of the estimator, we are able to find conditions ensuring that this variance is comparable to the one of the continuous case.     Quantifying cellular behavior during early mammalian development

    In this thesis we study cell behaviours such as cellular decision making and self-organization using the developing mouse embryo as the system of study. To be able to extract the most needed cellular dynamics from experimental data, we developed a package for the segmentation, tracking, annotation and manual correction of errors in 3d multichannel live- imaged biological samples. Then, we apply these single cell analysis together with mathematical modeling and statistical methods to four distinc problems in the context of the mouse early embryonic development. First we study the differentiatioin of ICM progenitors into epiblast and primitive endoderm. Then, focus on the generation of pulsatil dynamics in the ERK signaling pathway. In the next two chapters we focus on post-implantation development. In one of them, we characterise cell competition in the context of gastrulation. Finally, we study the differentiation of the visceral endoderm into anterior visceral endoderm. In this Thesis, We show that the spatio-temporal analysis of cellular dynamics is a key approach in the study of develping systemsEn esta tesis estudiamos comportamientos celulares como la toma de decisiones y la autoorganización celular utilizando el embrión de ratón como sistema de estudio. Para poder extraer la dinámica celular de los datos experimentales, desarrollamos un paquete para la segmentación, seguimiento, anotación y corrección manual de errores en imágenes biológicas 3d multicanal. A continuación, aplicamos estos métodos junto con métodos de modelización matemática y análisis estadística a cuatro problemas distintos en el contexto del desarrollo embrionario temprano del ratón. En primer lugar, estudiamos la diferenciación de blastomeros a epiblasto y endodermo primitivo. A continuación, nos centramos en la generación de la dinámica pulsatil en la vía de señalización ERK. En los dos capítulos siguientes nos centramos en el desarrollo post-implantación. En uno de ellos, caracterizamos la competencia celular en el contexto de la gastrulación. Por último, estudiamos la diferenciación del endodermo visceral en endodermo visceral anterior.     A plasma biomarker panel for detecting early amyloid-β accumulation and its changes in middle-aged cognitively unimpaired individuals at risk for Alzheimer's disease

    Background: Plasma biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) change during preclinical stages, indicating potential for detecting amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology in cognitively unimpaired (CU) individuals. Given the need for accurate, scalable biomarkers, we evaluated a fully automated plasma panel to detect and monitor longitudinal Aβ accumulation in CU individuals. Methods: In this longitudinal study, we examined a plasma panel (Aβ42/40, p-tau181, GFAP, NfL, p-tau217 and ApoE4) in CU participants at risk for AD. We assessed the biomarkers' performance to detect Aβ pathology and the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between the biomarkers and Aβ accumulation, neurodegeneration and cognition. Findings: We included 400 middle-aged CU participants, of whom 135 (33.8%) were CSF Aβ-positive. All plasma biomarkers differed between Aβ-positive and -negative individuals, with plasma Aβ42/40, p-tau217, p-tau181/Aβ42, and p-tau217/Aβ42 showing the best performance in detecting A+ CU individuals. However, plasma Aβ42/40 was sensitive to random variability. Plasma p-tau217/Aβ42 had the highest performance in detecting PET A+ individuals (AUC = 0.94). All baseline plasma biomarkers were associated with longitudinal increases in Aβ deposition (mean follow-up [SD]: 3.27 ± 0.5). Longitudinal changes in plasma p-tau217 and p-tau217/Aβ42 were associated with concurrent changes in Aβ (both CSF and PET) and soluble tau pathology. Interpretation: In CU individuals, several plasma biomarkers at baseline detect Aβ accumulation and are associated with its short-term change. Plasma p-tau217, and p-tau217/Aβ42 longitudinal changes reflect concurrent Aβ accumulation during this period. These findings help enrich studies in CU individuals at risk of progressing to AD.     How did the COVID-19 lockdown affect leisure-time exercise patterns? The case of Spain

    This paper explores the effects of the lockdown measures on the population's exercise patterns and aims to answer three questions: Were lockdown exercise patterns different from the ordinary patterns? What are the variables that explain the difference between ordinary habits and lockdown exercise frequency of participants? What are the correlates of the changes in post-lockdown exercise habits among people who exercised during lockdown? We estimated binary logits for participation and ordered logits to analyse frequency and the changes in sporting habits using the 2020 Spanish Survey of Sporting Habits. Our sample consisted of 5,154 observations, of which 3,060 people exercised at least once a month (59.4%) and 2,178 exercised during lockdown (42.3%). The results show that some determinants of the probability and frequency of exercising lost significance during lockdown. Moreover, women and higher-educated people exercised more frequently during lockdown 'comparing to their ordinary habits' and women physically active during lockdown exercised less once mobility restrictions were lifted. According to our results, policy makers should focus their attention on men and lower-educated people in the event of future stay-at-home restrictions
