Gestalt Therapy Approach to Depressive Experiences

    Get PDF
Mourning and depressive experience are distinguished to highlight the core of the suffering of people in depression. In the mourning experience a specific person or situation becomes unreachable and therein lies the loss suffered. The experience of melancholic depression differs: what is lost is that which anchors the subject to the fabric which connects him/her to the world. A radically relational approach to depression where the client and therapist are seen as depressing here and now in the therapy’s situation is introduced

Úzkost a hněv v politické psychologii

    Get PDF
Study summarizes political psychology research dealing with the effects of anxiety and anger based on theory of affective intelligence. In this field of study, emotions are understood as emotional categories that cluster similar affects. According to the theory of affective intelligence, anxiety and anger have different effects on political thinking and behavior, a fact that corresponds to most of the existing findings. Researches in this study are divided into three political psychology domains according to their research problems. These domains are acquiring information and thinking, forming opinions and attitudes, and political participation

The European Perspective on the Notion of Precedent – are EU and Czech Court Decisions Source of Law?

    Get PDF
The article focuses on the substance and effects of judicial decisions. Judgements of domestic courts and those of the Court of Justice of the EU are examined separately in terms of their nature. Specifically, the article deals with the question of their binding effect and also whether they can be considered a source of Czech and EU law. The author discusses and questions the opinion, which is currently prevailing among Czech authors, that decisions of supreme courts should be considered binding and simultaneously a source of law comparable to precedents, as they are known in Anglo-American law. The article further points out that the alleged similarity between judgements rendered by the Czech courts and the Court of Justice of the EU is merely ostensible, as each of them has a different nature and effects in the Czech legal environment. The conclusion is, in simple terms, that judgements of domestic courts generally cannot be considered a source of law, that they do not contain any new legal norms and, finally, that they comprise merely a simple and changeable interpretation of legal norms created by the law-making body. The article focuses on the substance and effects of judicial decisions. Socioeconomic characteristics, family structure and trajectories of children's psychosocial problems in a period of social transition

    Get PDF
Data from the Czech part of the European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood offer a unique opportunity to examine a period of changing socioeconomic structure of the country. Our aim was to analyse the association between socioeconomic status, family structure and children's psychosocial problems at the age of 7, 11, 15 and 18 years in 3,261 subjects and compare our results with findings from western settings. The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and its five subscales were used to assess individual problem areas (emotional symptoms, peer problems, hyperactivity, conduct problems) and prosocial behaviour. Socioeconomic status was represented by maternal education and three forms of family structure were identified: nuclear family, new partner family and single parent family. The SDQ subscale score over time was modelled as a quadratic growth curve using a linear mixed-effects model. Maternal university education was associated with a faster decline in problems over time for all five SDQ subscales. Problems in children from nuclear families were found to be significantly lower than in children from single parent families for all SDQ subscales with the exception of peer problems. Compared to nuclear families, children from new partner families scored significantly higher in hyperactivity and conduct problems subscales. The nuclear family structure and higher maternal education have been identified as protective factors for children's psychosocial problems, in agreement with findings from western settings. Adopting a longitudinal perspective was shown as essential for providing a more complex view of children's psychosocial problems over time

Disentangled Autoencoder for Cross-Stain Feature Extraction in Pathology Image Analysis

    Get PDF
A novel deep autoencoder architecture is proposed for the analysis of histopathology images. Its purpose is to produce a disentangled latent representation in which the structure and colour information are confined to different subspaces so that stain-independent models may be learned. For this, we introduce two constraints on the representation which are implemented as a classifier and an adversarial discriminator. We show how they can be used for learning a latent representation across haematoxylin-eosin and a number of immune stains. Finally, we demonstrate the utility of the proposed representation in the context of matching image patches for registration applications and for learning a bag of visual words for whole slide image summarization

Cylindrospermopsin is effectively degraded in water by pulsed corona-like and dielectric barrier discharges

    Get PDF
Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) is an important cyanobacterial toxin posing a major threat to surface waters during cyanobacterial blooms. Hence, methods for cyanotoxin removal are required to confront seasonal or local incidences to sustain the safety of potable water reservoirs. Non-thermal plasmas provide the possibility for an environmentally benign treatment which can be adapted to specific concentrations and environmental conditions without the need of additional chemicals. We therefore investigated the potential of two different non-thermal plasma approaches for CYN degradation, operated either in a water mist, i.e. in air, or submerged in water. A degradation efficacy of 0.03 +/- 0.00 g kWh(-1) L-1 was found for a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) operated in air, while a submerged pulsed corona-like discharge resulted in an efficacy of 0.24 +/- 0.02 g kWh(-1) L-1. CYN degradation followed a pseudo zeroth order or pseudo first order reaction kinetic, respectively. Treatment efficacy of the corona-like discharge submerged in water increased with pH values of the initial solution changing from 5.0 to 7.5. Notably, a pH-depending residual oxidative effect was observed for the submerged discharge, resulting in ongoing CYN degradation, even without further plasma treatment. In this case hydroxyl radicals were identified as the dominant oxidants of CYN at acidic pH values. In comparison, degradation by the DBD could be related primarily to the generation of ozone

    Introduction

The Introduction presents the content and key research scope of the book. It introduces the new concept of judicial treatment and positions it into current debates on judicial compliance and judicial implementation. It explains the importance of domestic courts for the legitimacy and effectivity of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights. The Introduction sketches the core research question "how domestic courts use ECtHR case law" and outlines the rest of the book. Finally, it justifies why Czechia is a good case for testing the new concept of judicial treatment empirically and explains what lessons Czech experience brings for transitioning democracies of the Council of Europe
