The results show that the main reasons why shift to online teaching did not fully replace full-time education are 1) fewer lectures by teachers on the subject matter, 2) an insuffi- cient number of practical seminars and, 3) home environment, which for many students is a barrier to motivation and focus on learning. Overall, the study presents a plastic picture of the implemen- ted online teaching, which offers a number of topics for follow-up research

Cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa Contributes to the Severity of Fish Diseases: A Study on Spring Viraemia of Carp

    Get PDF
Fish are exposed to numerous stressors in the environment including pollution, bacterial and viral agents, and toxic substances. Our study with common carps leveraged an integrated approach (i.e., histology, biochemical and hematological measurements, and analytical chemistry) to understand how cyanobacteria interfere with the impact of a model viral agent, Carp sprivivirus (SVCV), on fish. In addition to the specific effects of a single stressor (SVCV or cyanobacteria), the combination of both stressors worsens markers related to the immune system and liver health. Solely combined exposure resulted in the rise in the production of immunoglobulins, changes in glucose and cholesterol levels, and an elevated marker of impaired liver, alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Analytical determination of the cyanobacterial toxin microcystin-LR (MC-LR) and its structurally similar congener MC-RR and their conjugates showed that SVCV affects neither the levels of MC in the liver nor the detoxification capacity of the liver. MC-LR and MC-RR were depurated from liver mostly in the form of cysteine conjugates (MC-LR-Cys, MC-RR-Cys) in comparison to glutathione conjugates (LR-GSH, RR-GSH). Our study brought new evidence that cyanobacteria worsen the effect of viral agents. Such inclusion of multiple stressor concept helps us to understand how and to what extent the relevant environmental stressors co-influence the health of the fish population

Differential Illiberalism : Classifying Illiberal Trends in Central European Party Politics

    Get PDF
This chapter explores illiberal trends in the party systems of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Focusing on ANO, SMER, Fidesz and PiS, it first provides a comparative analysis of the ideology these parties use to appeal to the voters. Secondly, it traces the parties in power and analyses how they are translating the illiberal political concepts into laws and policy-making practices. The overarching aim is to understand the relevance that rule of law and legal issues have for the self-positioning vis-á-vis the national public and EU. Based on comparison and the empirical findings, it provides a typology of Central European illiberalism based on the difference between pragmatic and ideological illiberalism

Toward Guidelines for Designing Cybersecurity Serious Games

    Get PDF
Cybersecurity serious games provide hands-on training of cybersecurity skills and enhance security awareness. Besides the learning content, they use gamification elements to engage and motivate the players. We propose guidelines for creating technical cybersecurity games in a higher education context, based on a literature review and experience of cybersecurity instructors. We also introduce topics for further research in this area

A field experiment on dishonesty: A registered replication of Azar et al. (2013)

    Get PDF
This study is a registered replication of a field experiment on dishonesty by Azar et al. (2013). Their main finding was that most customers of an Israeli restaurant did not return excessive change; however, customers who received a higher amount of excessive change returned it more often than people who received a lower amount. Our study, which was conducted on a sample of customers of restaurants in the Czech Republic (N=219), replicated the results of the original study. The high excessive change condition increased the chance of returning the excess change by 21.7 percentage points (17.4 percentage points in the original study). The findings show that the psychological costs of dishonesty can outweigh its financial benefits. We similarly found that repeat customers and women were more likely to return the excessive change than one-time customers and men. The majority (70%) of customers in our sample returned the excessive change. We discuss the importance of field studies and replications of them in the further development of research into dishonest behavior. This study is a registered replication of a field experiment on dishonesty by Azar et al. A Dashboard for Cyber Situational Awareness and Decision Support in Network Security Management

    Get PDF
This demo paper presents a dashboard for network security management, a web application that visualizes data gathered by various sensors in the network and allows the user to achieve cyber situational awareness and provides decision support in the incident handling process. The dashboard and its underlying database use modern graph-based approaches to data modelling, storing, and querying. The dashboard speeds up routine tasks in incident handling, such as getting a context of a situation and quickly assessing the spread and impact of vulnerabilities. The implementation uses modern graph-based approaches to data storage and visualization

Are one’s attachment avoidance toward a particular person and his/her placement of this particular person in the attachment hierarchy inversely overlapping? Four bifactor-analysis studies

    Get PDF
Do one’s hierarchical preference for attachment support from a particular person over other people (attachment hierarchy) and his/her discomfort with closeness and uneasiness about being dependent on that particular person (attachment avoidance) inversely overlap? These two constructs have been distinctly conceptualized. Attachment hierarchy has been regarded as a normative characteristic of attachment relationships, while attachment avoidance has been considered to reflect an individual difference of relationship quality. Employing bifactor analyses, we demonstrated a unidimensional general factor of these two concepts in four studies exploring Czech young adults’ relationships with mother, father, friends, and romantic partner (Study 1); U.S. young adults’ relationships with a romantic partner (Study 2); Czech adolescents’ relationships with mother, father, and friends (Study 3); and Japanese young adults’ relationships with mother, father, and romantic partner (Study 4). These convergent results provide the replicable and generalizable evidence that one’s attachment avoidance toward a particular person and her/his placement of that particular person in the attachment hierarchy are inversely overlapping

The social desirability bias across modes : The case of the Czech experimental survey

    Get PDF
Increasing costs and declining response rates lead to the utilisation of mixed-mode surveys, especially push-to-web surveys. Our project develops an optimal design of CAWI+CAPI data collection for the Czech settings, which faces the thread of mode effect (especially for sensitive questions). Differences in distributions of several sensitive questions appeared in the data, although the pattern is not consistent. Thus, we recommend cautious use of mixed-mode data, including checks for mode differences, using mode as a control variable, and most importantly - a thorough preparation of each questionnaire and data collection
