Co-produced translation and transformation of knowledge and policy: context-adaptive mobility of compact city ideals / Interpretación (co-producida) y transformación de conocimientos y políticas: una transferencia de los ideales relativos a las ciudades compactas adaptada al contexto
No full textThe compact city is an ideal model for sustainability, transferred between cities as ‘best practices’. This article investigates how context-adaptive transfer of compact city ideals can take place, using Barcelona, Rotterdam and Gothenburg as examples. The objectives are to 1) summarize urban qualities discussed by stakeholders in the three cities; 2) uncover dominant urban challenges and strategies among Barcelona, Rotterdam and Gothenburg stakeholders; and 3) present how Barcelona/Rotterdam ‘best practices’ are translated and transformed by Gothenburg stakeholders into situated ‘good practices’. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 82 stakeholders in Barcelona and Rotterdam and a workshop with 17 stakeholders in Gothenburg. The article shows that any meaningful and consequential mobility of knowledge through best practices requires stakeholder-enabled translation involving social learning and co-production of locally relevant knowledge. This means that a wide range of stakeholders needs to be engaged, including affected citizens, to secure representation and transparency. To succeed, best practices need embellishment with sufficient contextual information in formats possible to understand and process by these stakeholders. Strengthened involvement of stakeholders in transfer, translation and transformation of ‘best practices’ into ‘good practices’ requires improved models for stakeholder engagement, moving away from prevalent top-down attitudes of many city governments.La ciudad compacta es un modelo ideal de sostenibilidad, transferido entre ciudades como “mejores prácticas”. Este artículo investiga cómo puede tener lugar una transferencia adaptativa al contexto de los ideales de ciudad compacta, utilizando Barcelona, Rotterdam y Gotemburgo como ejemplos. Los objetivos son 1) resumir las cualidades urbanas discutidas por las partes interesadas en las tres ciudades; 2) descubrir los desafíos y estrategias urbanos dominantes entre las partes interesadas de Barcelona, Rotterdam y Gotemburgo; y 3) presentar cómo las partes interesadas de Gotemburgo traducen y transforman las “mejores prácticas” de Barcelona/Rotterdam en “buenas prácticas” situadas. Los datos se recopilaron a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas con 82 partes interesadas en Barcelona y Rotterdam y un taller con 17 partes interesadas en Gotemburgo. El artículo muestra que cualquier movilidad significativa y consecuente de conocimiento a través de mejores prácticas requiere una traducción habilitada por las partes interesadas que implique aprendizaje social y coproducción de conocimiento localmente relevante. Esto significa que es necesario involucrar a una amplia gama de partes interesadas, incluidos los ciudadanos afectados, para garantizar la representación y la transparencia. Para tener éxito, las mejores prácticas deben enriquecerse con suficiente información contextual en formatos que estas partes interesadas puedan comprender y procesar. Les objectifs sont de 1) résumer les qualités urbaines discutées par les acteurs des trois villes ; 2) découvrir les défis et stratégies urbains dominants parmi les parties prenantes de Barcelone, Rotterdam et Göteborg ; et 3) présenter comment les « meilleures pratiques » de Barcelone/Rotterdam sont traduites et transformées par les parties prenantes de Göteborg en « bonnes pratiques » situées. Les données ont été collectées au moyen d'entretiens semi-structurés avec 82 parties prenantes à Barcelone et Rotterdam et d'un atelier avec 17 parties prenantes à Göteborg. L’article montre que toute mobilité significative et conséquente des connaissances à travers les meilleures pratiques nécessite une traduction rendue possible par les parties prenantes, impliquant l’apprentissage social et la coproduction de connaissances pertinentes au niveau local. Cela signifie qu’un large éventail de parties prenantes doivent être impliquées, y compris les citoyens concernés, pour garantir la représentation et la transparence. Pour réussir, les meilleures pratiques doivent être agrémentées d’informations contextuelles suffisantes dans des formats pouvant être compris et traités par ces parties prenantes. Une implication renforcée des parties prenantes dans le transfert, la traduction et la transformation des « meilleures pratiques » en « bonnes pratiques » nécessite de meilleurs modèles d’engagement des parties prenantes, en s’éloignant des attitudes descendantes dominantes de nombreuses administrations municipales
Proceso de restauración de un biombo indio del siglo XIX perteneciente al Casino Amistad Numancia de Soria
Get PDFThis article details the restoration process of a 19th century Indian screen, an exceptional work that combines artistic and heritage value, owned by the Casino Círculo Amistad Numancia in Soria. The intervention addressed both structural problems and the preservation of the polychromy, affected by the ageing of varnishes and the attack of wood-eating insects. Through an interdisciplinary approach, which combines historical and aesthetic analysis with the application of conservation techniques, the preservation and visual reading of this unique piece has been guaranteed. In addition, the restoration raises reflections on the balance between intervention and respect for the integrity of the material of the work. The photographic documentation and the assessment of the ethical and methodological criteria adopted reinforce the importance of protecting historical furniture, highlighting its relevance not only as a functional object, but as an essential cultural testimony.El presente artículo detalla el proceso de restauración de un biombo indio del siglo XIX, una obra excepcional que conjuga valor artístico y patrimonial, propiedad del Casino Círculo Amistad Numancia de Soria. La intervención abordó tanto problemas estructurales como la preservación de la policromía, afectada por el envejecimiento de barnices y el ataque de xilófagos. A través de un enfoque interdisciplinario, que combina el análisis histórico y estético con la aplicación de técnicas de conservación, se ha garantizado la preservación y lectura visual de esta pieza única. Además, la restauración plantea reflexiones en torno al equilibrio entre intervención y respeto a la integridad del material de la obra. La documentación fotográfica y la valoración de los criterios éticos y metodológicos adoptados refuerzan la importancia de proteger el mobiliario histórico, destacando su relevancia no solo como objeto funcional, sino como testimonio cultural imprescindible
GOOD SYNDROME PRESENTING WITH PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE WEAKNESS FOLLOWING THYMECTOMY

Throughout her illness, she developed pure red cell aplasia, respiratory failure, and recurrent respiratory infections. She was treated with intravenous immunoglobulins, pyridostigmine, and cyclosporine A, achieving stability in her hematologic condition but without improvement in her myopathic symptoms. ATYPICAL EPIDIDYMO-ORCHITIS WITH SCROTAL MANIFESTATION OF ENTAMOEBA HISTOLYTICA WITH CONCURRENT MORGANELLA MORGANII INFECTION.
Get PDFEpididymo-orchitis is a common cause of acute scrotal pain, typically resulting from bacterial infections, with approximately 600,000 cases diagnosed annually in the United States. While most cases are attributed to sexually transmitted pathogens such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia trachomatis in younger men and gram-negative organisms like Escherichia coli in older patients, rare parasitic infections can complicate the clinical picture. We present the case of an 82-year-old male with a complex medical history, including severe coronary artery disease, hypertension, and a recent Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), who developed left-sided scrotal pain and swelling. Initially diagnosed with orchiepididymitis and treated with antibiotics, his condition deteriorated, leading to recurrent febrile episodes and worsening symptoms. Imaging revealed a multiseptated scrotal collection and ischemic testicular changes. Surgical exploration uncovered purulent material, which cultured Morganella morganii, and histopathological analysis surprisingly revealed Entamoeba histolytica morphology with phagocytosed erythrocytes, an exceedingly rare finding in extraintestinal amebiasis. Stool and serological tests for E. histolytica were negative, suggesting isolated scrotal involvement. The patient underwent left orchiectomy, received broad-spectrum antibiotics followed by targeted therapy, and recovered without recurrence over a five-month follow-up. This case emphasizes the importance of considering rare parasitic infections in atypical or refractory presentations of epididymal-orchitis, particularly in regions where E. histolytica is endemic or in patients with unique clinical histories. The unusual scrotal involvement of E. histolytica, with only one other documented case, highlights the diagnostic challenges and emphasizes the role of a multidisciplinary approach combining surgical intervention, microbiological studies, and tailored antimicrobial therapy. This report expands the understanding of extraintestinal amebiasis and reinforces the need for vigilance in identifying rare etiologies in urological conditions

Get PDFThe objective of this article is to explore the specifics of fictional languages as a reception-strategy in contemporary epic fantasy. For this, I will begin from two theoretic fields: the first one, related to the hermeneutics and aesthetics of reception, the ideal, implicit and model reader; and the second one, related to glossolalia, glossopoiesis and the creation of artificial languages inside and outside of art. Next, I will present this reception-strategy as an artifact based on emotions, which the receptor accesses through three elements: narrator, context and euphony. Finally, I will analyze the language of the Fae in The Kingkiller Chronicle (2007-), by Patrick Rothfuss, as an example of this kind of reception-strategy in a work of contemporary epic fantasy.El objetivo de este artículo es explorar el comportamiento de las lenguas ficcionales como estrategia receptora en la fantasía épica contemporánea. Para ello, se parte de dos campos de estudio: el primero, relacionado con la hermenéutica y la estética de la recepción, el lector ideal, implícito y modelo; y segundo, el de la glosolalia, la glosopoiesis y la creación de lenguas artificiales dentro y fuera de la literatura. A continuación, se plantea la posibilidad de que la estrategia receptora que constituyen las lenguas ficcionales esté basada en las emociones, a la que el receptor accede mediante tres elementos: narrador, contexto y eufonía. Por último, se plantea un análisis del lenguaje de los fata en The Kingkiller Chronicle (2007-), de Patrick Rothfuss, como ejemplo de los argumentos anteriores en una obra de la fantasía épica contemporánea
Negligencia Emocional en la Infancia, Autocrítica y Significado en la Vida en Adultos que Viven en Comunidades Terapéuticas
Get PDFBackground: Childhood emotional neglect (CEN) may contribute to the emergence of self-critical tendencies, which may be particularly pronounced in individuals living in therapeutic communities and which can have a substantial impact on their overall sense of meaning in life (MiL). Method: This study analyzed the influence of self-criticism (self-criticizing [S-C], self-attacking [S-A], and self-reassuring [S-R]) on the link between CEN and MiL (presence of meaning [PoM] and search for meaning [SfM]) in individuals living in therapeutic communities. The study also aimed to investigate whether this mediating model differed between genders. A total of 1086 participants (18-25 years, 50% women) completed self-report questionnaires. Results: The findings indicated intricate links between the variables. Notably, S-A emerged as a mediator between CEN and both PoM and SfM, whereas S-C solely mediated the path between CEN and SfM, and S-R only mediated the connection between CEN and PoM. Furthermore, the study confirmed the model’s invariance between genders. Conclusions: The results underscore the necessity for targeted interventions tailored to this unique population in order to alleviate CEN's adverse effects, address the multifaceted nature of self-criticism, and foster a resilient sense of MiL.Antecedentes: La negligencia emocional en la infancia (NEI) puede contribuir al desarrollo de tendencias autocríticas, las cuales, en individuos en comunidades terapéuticas, pueden ser especialmente pronunciadas y afectar significativamente su sentido de significado en la vida (SV). Método: Este estudio examinó cómo diferentes formas de autocrítica (autocrítica [AC], autoataque [AA] y autorreaseguramiento [AR]) influyen en la relación entre la NEI y el SV, que incluye la presencia de significado (PS) y la búsqueda de significado (BS), en individuos que residen en comunidades terapéuticas. También se analizó si este modelo mediador variaba entre géneros. Participaron 1086 personas (de 18 a 25 años, 50% mujeres) que completaron cuestionarios de autoinforme. Resultados: Los resultados mostraron que el AA mediaba la relación entre NEI y tanto PS como BS, mientras que la AC mediaba únicamente la relación entre NEI y BS, y el AR mediaba la relación entre NEI y PS. El estudio también confirmó que el modelo era consistente entre géneros. Conclusiones: Estos hallazgos resaltan la necesidad de intervenciones específicas para esta población, con el fin de reducir los efectos negativos de la NEI, abordar la complejidad de la autocrítica y promover un sentido resiliente de SV

LOS PROCEDIMIENTOS AMISTOSOS Y ARBITRALES EN EL ORDENAMIENTO JURÍDICO ESPAÑOL
Get PDFDesde la óptica de un Estado miembro de la Unión Europea, la tramitación de procedimientos amistosos o arbitrales puede acometerse al amparo de distintas bases habilitantes como son las cláusulas convencionales, el Convenio 90/436/CEE o la Directiva 2017/1852. La regulación de todas ellas en el ordenamiento interno español se encuentra dispersa en diversas disposiciones, adquiriendo especial relevancia el RD 1794/2008, de 3 de noviembre, por el que se aprueba el reglamento de procedimientos amistosos en materia de imposición directa. La estructura de este último no resulta especialmente intuitiva debido al elevado número de remisiones normativas y a la artificial diferenciación de procedimientos no sólo en función de la concreta autoridad competente ante la que se solicita el inicio sino también de la Administración de la que trae causa la acción generadora de doble imposición
