STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES ОN TEACHING LITERATURE IN EFL CLASSES: VARIOUS POSSIBILITIES FOR CREATING EXCITING CLASSROOM EXPERIENCES

    Get PDF
Literature and language are intricately interconnected. Literature is built by means of language, and in turn all aspects of language are enriched due to the creative and innovative use of language in literary works. Teaching literature is a truly demanding task, particularly, in the context of teaching EFL where practically little or no room is left for dealing with literary pieces. A number of studies have proved that the benefits of incorporating literature in EFL classes are numerous; still, literature seems to be grossly neglected in the foreign language classrooms. The study at hand attempts to shed some light on future English teachers’ perspectives on teaching literature in EFL classes. More precisely, by conducting structured interviews with second cycle students majoring in the English language and literature at the Faculty of Education – Bitola and doing detailed analysis of their lesson plans, we aimed at ascertaining whether their position towards teaching literature is positive or not; what literary genres they find most suitable for EFL classes; what teaching methods and techniques they would prefer to use in an attempt to integrate literature in EFL classes, and how they feel about utilizing ICTs as a tool for organizing, engaging and stimulating activities for their EFL students

The inclusion of Bulgarian Army in operations and missions led by NATO and the European Union requires a new approach by Bulgarian Armed Forces. The development of national adaptive capabilities of engineer units will contribute to the strengthening of the national security and defense of the country and to neutralizing the risks and threats where they arise. To fully leverage the capabilities of the Bulgarian Army requires enhancing engineer capabilities as well. This paper examines the influence of the current security environment to the Bulgarian Armed Forces. It further discusses the importance of the role of military engineering support in the operations. The goal of the paper is to implement a new approach for the development of engineer capabilities

CHANGES IN THE LACTOFERRIN CONCENTRATION AT DRYING OFF PERIOD

    Get PDF
In the lactation cycle of dairy cows, the dry off is a critical period of rest for the udder, in order to optimize milk production in the next lactation. Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding protein normally excreted in cow’s milk and it is one of the natural protective factors having the ability to inhibit the growth of mastitis-causing pathogens. The objective of this research was to determine whether LF concentration in the milk is increased at drying off period. Quarter milk samples (n=40) from clinically healthy Holstein-Friesian cows were taken. Milk samples were collected one week prior to dry off and on the day of dry off. The milk samples were analyzed for physicochemical properties, somatic cells (SCC) and concentrations of lactoferrin. The mean LF concentration in the milk was found to increase significantly (p<0,05) from 2.977,28 µg/mL, one week prior to dry off to 4.529,07 µg/mL on the day of drying off process

THE IMPACT OF FOOD QUALITY MANAGEMENT ON THE WELL-BEING OF THE POPULATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY

    Get PDF
According to a 2017 report by the FAO, demand for food will increase by 50% from 2012 to 2050. Countries will be forced to increase food production. It is important not to increase production at the expense of deteriorating food quality. The quality of food has an impact on the overall well-being of the population; therefore, it is necessary to have proper food quality management. The aim of the paper is to show the impact of food quality control on the development of the country and the population. The correlation between quality control and food productivity shows what impact regulations have on food production. In the second case, the correlation between quality control and GDP change will allow us to conclude what impact food quality control has on the development of the country

ANALYSIS OF THE STATE OF THE HACCP SYSTEM IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY IN RNM

    Get PDF
The HACCP food safety system is a preventive approach to the analysis and control of hazards at all stages of food production, which is a legal obligation for all food operators, including the dairy industry. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the state of the HACCP system in the Macedonian dairies and to identify the factors that affect its functioning. The survey covered 16 dairies with different structure and capacity. The obtained data shows that all dairies without exception have implemented and apply the HACCP system, of which only 62.5% have certified it. As one of the benefits of the application of the HACCP system, 87.5% of the dairies point out the product safety improvement and the increased trust of the consumers, for which all the dairies answered in the affirmative. Food premises requirements, financial resources and insufficient staff education are some of the problems in implementing the HACCP system that most dairies have faced

The main challenge to the teachers in the field of mathematics in higher education is the fact that they are often confronted with the generally negative attitude of the students towards mathematics. This is partially due to their inadequate experience in the previous periods of learning mathematics that results in a certain mixture of essential mathematical illiteracy and personal animosity towards the subject. It is the main reason why mostly of the mathematics teachers in higher education are not able to achieve the needed efficacy in teaching mathematics. In this paper part we will envisage part of the problems we had to deal with in our efforts in making mathematics in higher education more approachable and more acceptable to our students. The main goal is to present suggestions for overcoming the existing problems and drawbacks that we are facing as mathematics teachers, mainly in faculties in technical sciences

ANALYSIS OF CLOVE (Syzygium aromaticum L.) OIL OBTAINED WITH HYDRODISTILLATION AND ULTRASOUND- ASSISTED EXTRACTION

    Get PDF
Essential oils derived from various aromatic plants are frequently used due to their antioxidative, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity. Their pleasant odor makes them very useful in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. Clove oil (CO) can be isolated from dried flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum L. and its major component is eugenol presented in 70-90%. The aim of this study was to develop two extraction techniques and analyze the obtained CO with thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Clove buds purchased from the local market were powdered and added distilled water for hydrodistillation and 50% ethanol for ultrasound-assisted extraction. Liquid-liquid extraction was performed with dichloromethane and dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. Accurate identification of eugenol with TLC was achieved with toluene:ethyl acetate (93:7) mixture as a mobile phase while high-efficiency separation of more active compounds was performed with ultrasound-assisted extraction technique
