The present work analyzes the impacts that fame, audience, and acting as a YouTuber can have on the formation of identity, self-esteem, and psychological well-being of the individual. To do so, a content analysis was conducted through a case study based on the audiovisual production of Whindersson Nunes, a YouTuber with significant visibility and engagement with the Brazilian public, who experienced a depression process at the peak of his fame. It was found that the relationship with followers, the impact of haters‘ actions, and practices as a YouTuber consequently produced effects on his identity. Based on the analysis of this case, the contributions of media literacy are discussed as a tool to interact with media autonomously and critically, aiming to increase awareness of its effects with the goal of safeguarding psychological well-being.The present work analyzes the impacts that fame, audience, and acting as a YouTuber can have on the formation of identity, self-esteem, and psychological well-being of the individual.

In this interview, I propose a journey through words that, by being spoken, construct meanings and through images that fabricate utopias. The premise is the new film by Edgar Pêra, called Telepathic Letters. In this path, I don’t place myself in the shoes of a critic who judges a product or exclusively in the position of an academic who makes theoretical considerations about an object, based on a priori-analysis models. Rather, I situate myself as a researcher who opens to the investigation with a detached commitment. Immersing myself in the dialogic weaving of art, literature and philosophy, I discuss processes of adaptation for cinema, the role of Artificial Intelligence in creation, what it is like to be a cosmic spectator, like Fernando Pessoa and H. P. Lovecraft, whom Pêra (the telepathic channel) communicates with in this film. In these attempts, I present the productive methods of an artist, whose discourse is formulated in unrepeatable moments of interviews, with specific conditions of existence. Therefore, this communicative process in the form of conversations takes on an autoethnographic character (Ellis & Bochner, 2006).In this interview, I propose a journey through words that, by being spoken, construct meanings and through images that fabricate utopias.

Strategies to protect children from violence in artificial intelligence

In today’s convergent culture, children are growing up in a digital and transmedia environment in which artificial intelligence plays an increasingly important role. The risk of misuse of this artificial intelligence emphasises the importance of approaching the process of developing and implementing new technologies ethically and consciously. This study aims to identify strategies to mitigate the violence of artificial intelligence content aimed at minors. The literature on violence against children is examined through qualitative, explanatory research that focuses on analysing documents from primary and secondary sources. The documents come from recent research, European reports and laws, national and international news, materials and manuals related to the digital environment, transmedia and artificial intelligence. The results show the initiatives to raise awareness, parental control, promote dialogue, collaboration between the sector and experts, clarity of privacy and security policies of digital platforms, promotion of positive and educational content, strengthening of socio-emotional skills and psychological support for victims of violence. The research findings highlight the need for further research in the sector and conscious digital education, as well as a balance between use and action to mitigate the impact of violence against children by ensuring a safe digital environment. In today’s convergent culture, children are growing up in a digital and transmedia environment in which artificial intelligence plays an increasingly important role. Addressing Online Hate Speech: Nigeria’s National Framework and Regulations (2020-2023)

Sixty-three (63) years after independence, Nigeria has yet to recognize a national communication policy framework document that would serve as a foundation for both online and offline communication initiatives. This paper examines all four (4) drafts of the national communication policy framework in Nigeria to contextualise online hate speech within these documents. Drawing upon peace journalism theory, this qualitative content analysis reveals that there is a lack of robust legal frameworks for addressing online hate speech in all draft documents. Online hate speech is mentioned passively in the 3rd and 4th draft documents without any significant consideration for its implications on the potential escalation of national politics. Nigerian judicial system relies on global law reviews to adjudicate cases of online hate speech within the country. The study concludes that an effective framework for addressing online hate speech should be independently developed as part of the national communication policy and strategy documents established by the National Assembly, with the final draft recognized as a legally binding document in the country. The study also provides recommendations for strengthening the national communication policy and addressing the issue of online hate speech in Nigeria.Sixty-three (63) years after independence, Nigeria has yet to recognize a national communication policy framework document that would serve as a foundation for both online and offline communication initiatives. In June 2023, for the Podcast section of the “Speculum” project, professor and filmmaker Raquel Schefer accepted my invitation to explain her relationship with the concept of autobiographical documentary and to explain a little about her creative process, between academic writing and the realisation of eight short films, which she divides into two main and six secondary films. The hypothesis put forward here is to analyse Schefer’s work as a proposal for expanded cinema, with the idea of constructing an imaginary counterfield that materialises in words, gestures and objects, but also in academic writings and artistic presentations of her work.In June 2023, for the Podcast section of the “Speculum” project, professor and filmmaker Raquel Schefer accepted my invitation to explain her relationship with the concept of autobiographical documentary and to explain a little about her creative process, between academic writing and the realisation of eight short films, which she divides into two main and six secondary films. In recent years, a notable escalation of hate discourse has emerged between Brazilians and Portuguese on various digital platforms, casting content creators as pivotal actors in this contentious phenomenon. This article purposes to explore the connection between content production on digital platforms regarding the immigration of Brazilians to Portugal and the emergence of hate speech. Employing the Case Study methodology (Yin, 2017) with a qualitative approach, the research entailed a practical experiment involving the establishment of an Instagram profile dedicated to publish content regarding immigration in Portugal. Data collected over a six-month period underwent scrutiny via Content Analysis (Bardin, 2011). The study infers that, despite the initial intent to inform and publicize content suitable to immigration and life in Portugal, hate discourses flourish organically among users, underscoring the imperative for an ethically informed editorial approach. The endorsement of educational initiatives and tools is advocated to empower both content creators and consumers in facing hate speech on digital platforms. This may encompass the establishment of digital monitoring observatories, the provision of targeted training for content creators and the creation of audiovisual awareness materials for the audiences. In recent years, a notable escalation of hate discourse has emerged between Brazilians and Portuguese on various digital platforms, casting content creators as pivotal actors in this contentious phenomenon.

Television still represents an important part of the Advertising investment of many Portuguese brands. Focusing on data about the impact of television on the brands’ Advertising budget and having the Christmas season as context, characterized by strong investment in Advertising campaigns, this study seeks to answer the following question: what kind of appeals are conveyed in the Christmas adverts of the brands that invest the most in Advertising in Portugal? Based on a qualitative methodology, this research focused on the content analysis of Christmas advertisements broadcast by generalist Portuguese televisions (public and private) in 2022 that invested the most in Advertising. The results suggest that retail brands are the protagonists of Christmas Advertising campaigns in Portugal, producing highly visible productions with expressive messages and large budgets. There were also some particularities: retailers emphasize “family” values through their products, while telecommunications companies, although maintaining a commercial focus, incorporate emotionally charged narratives, exploring themes like loneliness and mental health.Television still represents an important part of the Advertising investment of many Portuguese brands.

In Nuits Blanches, the artist Pauline Le Pichon illustrates the disturbing scenarios that prevent her from sleeping at night. Narratives so unsettling and with such a realistic aspect that they become suffocating for the author. The proposal was submitted to the “Living Fiction” dossier of Rotura – Journal of Communication, Culture, and Arts (Center for Research in Arts and Communication, 2024) as a visual body responding to one of the challenges of the call: to de-automatize the gaze, with the proposal of exploring the relationship between fiction and life. If, in the gasp of a sleepless night, the voice fails and words no longer communicate, the image – a set of them – materializes the resistance to create as an artistic process and as a rebellion of life against what seems empty and absorbed. This visual essay offers, through the experience of the artist Pauline Le Pichon, the possibility to continue unraveling ‘nuits blanches’ and the force of life that also inhabits chaos (the origin of creation, according to Aristotle), as a matter of art and the sharing of possible films, through the experience of the image delivered to the eyes of others, of which this visual essay is an example. Estas narraciones son tan In Nuits Blanches, the artist Pauline Le Pichon illustrates the disturbing scenarios that prevent her from sleeping at night.
