Embedding Quantitative Techniques into the Standard Operating Procedure for the Hiring of Part-time Student Workers at EDC-UUM
Apart from offering full-time jobs to deserving local residents, the Executive Development Centre (EDC) of Universiti Utara Malaysia provides part-time employment opportunities to their undergraduate students, particularly the students from the tourism and hospitality programme. The students are hired through short interview sessions. Based on various complaints, the EDC management realised that the outcomes from the interviews did not help in selecting the most appropriate candidates to fill in the vacancies. Therefore, this study aimed to propose an alternate procedure that combines two quantitative techniques (i.e. the simple scaling method and the 0-1 integer linear programming model) in ensuring the management will hire and assign the right positions to candidates with better justifications. This study has identified six students for the part-time jobs available in Semester 2, Session 2018/2019. Three 0-1 integer linear programming models with different objective functions were formulated and solved with the aid of LINGO Version 12. Each model derived a different set of results. Hence, the management could make their final decision by referring to the results from the model in accordance with the objective. The contributions of the study and future applications are discussed in the conclusion section
Kebolehgunaan Tahaluf dalam Akad Mudharabah: Pembinaan Kerangka Awal Konsep Tahaluf Iqtishadi
Tahaluf is usually discussed from the perspective of tahaluf siyasi. Tahaluf siyasi means agreement between several parties to face the same enemy. In this study, researchers want to study beyond the norms of public thought. There is also discussion of tahaluf in politics, but in economics there is no discussion of tahaluf. Therefore, the construction of tahaluf in the economy or can be stated as tahaluf iqtishadi is important to fill in the knowledge gaps in Islamic treaties. To complete this study, this discussion focused on the agreement made in mudharabah contract. There are three focus areas, namely, security, justice and benefit. From this, it can be explained that the purpose of this study is to examine the concept of tahaluf iqtishadi based on mudharabah contract. This study uses a library research to examine the concept of tahaluf siyasi in mudharabah contract. These data were then analyzed using content analysis. As a result, there are two principles, two characteristics and six conditions of implementing tahaluf as the initial framework for the construction of the concept of tahaluf iqtishadi. These two principles are to defend the truth and to defend the covenant. The other two are the terms of the agreement and the contract is void if it is betrayed. The other six are loyalty, sincerity, wise management, stance, fellowship and confidence
Determinants Of Commercial Banks\u27 Profitability In Malaysia
This study attempts to investigate the determinants of commercial banks\u27 profitability by selecting capital adequacy, credit risk, management efficiency and liquidity risk as the main drivers toward profitability of ROA and ROE. The main motive behind this study is to acknowledge the reasons of Malaysian banking in having different rate of profitability although they are sharing the same loan growth in the country. A regression analysis is built on the panel data set comprising eight commercial banks from 2011 to 2017. To this end, the empirical data are collected from DataStream and Annual Report. Among all the determinant variables, capital adequacy do not show statistically significant impacts on profitability. Regression findings reveal that credit risk, management efficiency and liquidity risk were among the most significant determinants toward the bank?s profitability. Indeed, the variables more influence the profitability of ROE compared to ROA. In view of these findings, some suggestions may be functional for bank regulatory authorities to intensify and sustain robustness and stability of the banking sector in the country. Therefore, this paper tries to close an important gap in the existing literature by improving the understanding of bank profitability in Malaysia
Determinant of Customer Satisfaction Towards Pos Laju Malaysia Services During Movement Control Order
Logistics service quality (LSQ) is one of the most vital factors for customer satisfaction, especially in the courier industry. This study aimed to identify the determinants of customer satisfaction towards Pos Laju Malaysia service during the Movement Control Order (MCO). The study also examined the relationship between the LSQ dimensions and customer satisfaction. Based on the LSQ theory, customer satisfaction is measured based on the quality of information, condition or accuracy of order, timeliness, and quality of contact personnel. This study used a quantitative research method mainly based on the primary data. Four hundred questionnaires were distributed virtually. Descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression were applied to achieve the study objectives. The study findings found a significant relationship between LSQ dimensions (quality of information, condition or accuracy of order, timeliness, and quality of contact personnel) and customer satisfaction. The study also discovered that the quality of information, condition or accuracy of order, timeliness, and quality of contact personnel were significant determinants of customer satisfaction towards the courier service of Pos Laju Malaysia during the MCO. In conclusion, this study supported all the hypotheses

Alkaline pre-treatment of rice hull and coconut hull using Response Surface Methodology
In this research, the rice hull and coconut hull from agriculture waste were investigated. The lignin content within the rice and coconut hull were determined before and after pre-treatment. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) used to predict the optimal condition for the treatments and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) to identify the lignin content. The interaction of NaOH concentration, contact time (CT), and sample weight was investigated to optimize the lignin removal percentage (%). The correlation coefficient, R2 for a quadratic model of rice hull lignin removal was 0.8863 while for coconut hull lignin removal in the linear model was 0.7998, as well as the 2FI model was 0.8892. The optimum condition for rice hull lignin removal predicted by RSM were10 M NaOH concentration, 1-hour CT and 0.5 g sample produced 32.45% lignin removal. While for coconut hull lignin removal were 10 M NaOH concentration, 12 hours CT, 0.5 g sample produced 59.47% removal of lignin. Results show that alkaline pre-treated rice hull and coconut hull able to be used to remove higher percentage of lignin
Preliminary study on hymenopteran distribution and abundance from island ecosystem of Tuba Island Forest Reserve, Langkawi
The study was performed to determine the diversity and distribution of Hymenoptera across the environmental gradient ranging from fringe forest, mid forest to inner forest. The study was conducted in a selected area of Tuba Island Forest Reserve from 17th to 21st September 2020 using Malaise trap, an insect capturing trap. During this study, a total of 133 individuals of Hymenoptera were sampled from 12 families and 27 morphospecies. Hymenoptera was most abundantly found in the forest fringe with 64 individuals (11 families, 25 morphospecies) and least abundant in the inner forest with 26 individuals (7 families, 8 morphospecies). The top three highest number of individuals recorded were Formicidae (43 individuals), Braconidae (28 individuals) and Ichneumonidae with 27 individuals. Shannon-Weiner Diversity Index (H\u27) showed that the forest fringe had the highest diversity value with H\u27=1.80 while the lowest was recorded in the mid forest with H\u27=1.43. The Evenness Index (E’) was highest at mid forest (E’=0.81) and the Margalef Richness Index (R’) value recorded the highest at forest fringe indicating a high species richness with R’=2.40. Kruskal-Wallis test reveals that the distribution of Hymenopterans from the forest fringe to the inner forest did not differ significantly with P>0.05. High similarities in microclimate variables (monsoon season, temperature, humidity, and light intensity), resources availability, forest features, hiding places, and the presence of predators are among the factors influencing the homogeneity of the composition and abundance of Hymenoptera in Tuba Island. This study is the first checklist of Hymenoptera in Tuba Island and can be utilised as a baseline dataset for further ecological research at Tuba Island

Abstract
Online learning or e-learning has become one of the leading choices of the teaching and learning process (TnL) today. This process is increasingly being discussed when the whole world, including Malaysia, faces the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in everyone being forced to live in new norms. The online TnL process requires a systematic design with the application of specific learning theories. This study highlights a proposed theoretical framework produced through two core learning theories; Constructivism Theory and Language Acquisition Theory the research topic of development online Arabic courses, and two supporting learning theories; Cognitive Load Theory and Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning specialized in the design and development process of course contents. The selection of these theories is one of the earliest strategies in a research based on the design and development research (DDR) implemented in the analysis phase to be applied in the next stages; design and development. The following learning theories are explained according to the library analysis of the research method by reviewing the primary references and the related previous studies. As a result of the literature review, a theoretical framework is released in the form of diagrams, at the same time explaining its direct relation to the design and development of online Arabic courses. The study concludes that this theoretical framework can be adapted directly or with modification; because it is not limited to the presented theories of learning only, researchers can choose various other learning theories to suit their study topic. The theoretical framework is also expected to be useful as a future reference for design and development research in Arabic and other foreign or third languages
Evaluation of My Arabic Language Text Book for Primary Sixth Grade in the Republic of Yemen
This study aims to evaluate My Arabic language textbook for primary sixth grade students in the Republic of Yemen from the point of view of educational instructors and Arabic language teachers in light of the quality standards of the textbook. The study used the descriptive approach, and a questionnaire consisting of (40) items distributed across five areas (language and artistic direction, objectives, content, values and skills, activities and evaluation). The questionnaire was distributed to a sample consisting of (40) educational mentors, and (70) teachers, who are supervising and teaching the Arabic language in Taiz province, Yemen for the academic year (2020-2021). The results of the study revealed that all the five fields of evaluating My Arabic language book was about average. The field of language and artistic production of the book were ranked first, with an average of (3.538), and a standard deviation of (1.2088). The values and skills domain were ranked the worse, with a mean (2.752), and a standard deviation of (1.3797). The results also showed that there are statistically significant differences between the evaluative estimates of educational mentors and Arabic language teachers due to the job variable, academic qualification, and years of experience. Based on the conclusions of the study, some recommendations can be provided. One of the most important suggestions is the involvement of educational mentors and teachers in the process of preparing, writing and developing school curricula, and training teachers on the skills of analyzing and evaluating the content of textbooks
The Relationship between Language Proficiency and Critical Thinking Skills among Students in English Language Class
This research investigates the relationship between students’ English language ability and their critical thinking skills in English language class within the Thai context. The study involves 103 English major students and four English lecturers from the faculty of Education and Humanity and Social Sciences, Thaksin University. The data were obtained from the results of TOEIC Test, Cornell Critical Thinking Skill Test (CCTST), level X, questionnaires, students’ semi-structured interviews, and teacher ’individual interviews. The findings of the study revealed that students’ English language ability was at low level. 51% of the total students obtained scores of 350-495, which were at the Elementary Proficiency level, 29% were at Memorized Proficiency level. 19% were at 1+ Elementary Proficiency level. As for critical thinking skills, overall, the T- scores in critical thinking skills are mostly ‘average’ (T 45-54) or 33.98%. By considering individual aspects, the T-scores for Induction, Deduction and Credibility are also ‘average’ (T 45-54), accounting for 36.89%, 33.01%. and 47.57, respectively, excepted for the Assumption, where the T-scores are at a ‘fair’ level (T 35-44), representing 34.95%. However, this study demonstrated that critical thinking skill scores show significantly low correlation with language skills scores. A few students with higher ability in the English language were able to use their language advantage to answer the CCTTX. Therefore, more language and thinking skill trainings are necessary and more resources would be needed to find suitable methods in developing language ability and critical thinking skills of the students in the language classroom
