Application of Skopos Theory in Evaluation of Readability and Cohesion in English to Malay Translation of Four Selected Children Fables
Past studies on children’s literary translation suggest that there is still a debate on whether children’s literature should be source text oriented or transfer the purpose of the translation in the target text, while in children’s literary translation, faithfulness to the author is often deemed problematic. The Skopos theory was adopted into this study to discover the outcome in translating the “purpose” in children’s literary text. In this descriptive qualitative study, four stories were selected from English and Malay collections of children’s fables and were analyzed taking paragraphs as the unit of translation. The strategies used in the translation of English children’s fables to Malay were explored using Vinay and Darbelnet’s (1995) translation procedures. The cohesion of the translated text was then analyzed using Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) cohesive devices. The results showed that 33 translation procedures under the oblique method were used to translate the English fables into Malay and 58 cohesive devices were found in the English fables. These findings, discussed in relation to the Skopos theory and readability, revealed that the translation procedures used resulted in a cohesive translation, thus increasing readability of the stories towards for the target text receiver, i.e., children

Financial access for starting a business: Evidence of internal and external financial sources, and performance of Malaysian SMEs
The main objective of this study is to unearth the impact of internal and external funding sources for starting a business on the performance of SMEs, and to identify the potential of other core variables namely business experience, educational level, and size of firm, which may significantly influence the SMEs\u27 performance. The data was collected from 484 SMEs via a structured questionnaire and analyzed by using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. The study found that the internal and external sources of finance were insignificantly related to the SMEs? performance, while business experience, level of education, and firm size were positively related to the SMEs\u27 performance. The findings of this study reveal that finance is not the main source that needs to be taken into account by entrepreneurs, supporting institutions, and policy makers in improving the SMEs? performance. Further research in this area of study should extend into examining and adding more components that are relevant to a variation of the SMEs? performance
Factors Influencing Cloud Computing Adoption in the Public Sector: An Empirical Analysis
Cloud computing is one of the latest Information Technology innovation phenomena that has risen from the idea of sharing, consolidating, and standardizing of resources in a centralized infrastructure and facility. This concept offers many advantages such as cost reduction in both hardware and software investment for organizations. Despite these advantages, cloud computing adoption among organizations is relatively slow with a low adoption rate. As such, this study attempts to bridge the gap by offering insight into possible factors that could influence such adoption decisions. By integrating the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI) and IT personnel characteristics, a conceptual model is developed and tested as a preliminary study to determine the influencing factors of cloud computing adoption by the Malaysian public sector to enhance its service delivery. The results revealed that relative advantage, compatibility, and IT personnel knowledge are the innovation attributes and the human factor for cloud computing adoption in the Malaysian public sector. This study contributes to the knowledge domain of cloud computing adoption literature on theories of IT adoption particularly in the public sector
The Influence of Individual Characteristics in Predicting Mobile Commerce Usage Activities\u27 Continuance Intention
There are relatively few prior post-adoption studies that delineate the influence of individual characteristics on mobile commerce usage activities. Due to that, this article aims to examine the continuance intention of mobile commerce usage activities among Malaysian consumers by enhancing the original Expectation-Confirmation Model (ECM) framework. Apart from maintaining the perceived usefulness construct, the research framework was extended by incorporating individual characteristics construct, which comprise three factors, namely personal innovativeness, expertise, and self-efficacy. Data was collected from 632 consumers and analyzed using the Partial Least Squares structural equation modelling technique. Findings revealed that the individual characteristics construct is secondary to satisfaction and a better predictor compared to perceived usefulness in explaining 33.3% of the variance in continuance intention. Among the three individual characteristics\u27 factors, self-efficacy denotes the highest beta value strengths, followed by expertise, and personal innovativeness. Therefore, mobile commerce application developers should focus on designing applications that would satisfy the consumers\u27 expectations as well as take consumers? individual characteristics into consideration owing to the fact that consumers\u27 differences change over time. Gaining a better understanding of consumers\u27 individual characteristics would be valuable and beneficial for the providers of mobile commerce in constructing effective marketing strategies to promote continued use among the consumers
Perception Towards Factors that Affect the Effectiveness of an Entrepreneurship Training Program
Entrepreneurship is an important element of economic development because it does not only produce physical products and provides services but it also generates employment at the same time. Entrepreneurs develop new ideas through creativity and innovativeness and harness available resources to reap profit from their business endeavors. Realizing the importance of entrepreneurship that spurs economic growth, the government of Malaysia encourages future entrepreneurs to participate in entrepreneurship training programs to ensure they increase entrepreneurship capabilities and achieve sustainability in their ventures. In order to do so, training programs should cater to the important requirements of effective training in order to deliver the expected objectives. Thus, this paper aims to explore the determinants of the effectiveness of an entrepreneurship- training program using UMK?s students as the sample. Entrepreneurship students? perception on this is vital as they might be the entrepreneurs who will be involved in an entrepreneurship training program once they graduate from the university. This study adopted the purposive sampling method, where 50 students from the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business were selected to answer the structured questionnaires. The results of the study revealed that the trainees? readiness and learning approach were determinants of the effectiveness of the training program. On the other hand, the other two variables, entrepreneur?s orientation and trainer skills, did not have a significant relationship with the effectiveness of the training program. The findings should be treated with caution due to the small number of students involved in the study
Analysis of Production Factors for The Rubber Smallholder Sector in Malaysia
The production of natural rubber in Malaysia is primarily dominated by smallholders representing almost 95% of the total rubber plantation, while commercial estates constitute the remainder. The natural rubber industry is an integral part of the Malaysian economy, with 2.6% of with the total contribution of exports valued at more than RM20 billion annually. Therefore, the three key inputs that affect the productivity of smallholders in all states throughout Malaysia should be critically explored There is limited literature on the production of rubber by smallholders. The labour consumption, land area and adherence to agronomic practices are the main inputs and variables in this study. The Ordinary Least Square (OLS) was used to analyse the correlation of each input with rubber production by referring to the concept of the production function. The results discovered that 96% of rubber production yields are explained by independent variables consisting of labour, plantation area, weeding and cultivating activities. Furthermore, the total plantation area and adherence to agronomic practices positively affect total rubber production, while inefficient use of labor negatively affects total rubber production
Analysing Generical Moves in Pedagogical Sales Reply Emails
This study aimed to investigate the generic features in the business emails written by the undergraduates of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). Besides that, this study intended to propose a standard generic structure in writing a business email. The emails were gathered from the respondents\u27 assignment that comprised of two email-based questions; however, this study analysed the generic structure of sales reply emails. The emails were compared with Bhatia\u27s promotional sales letter moves. The methodology of this study was computer-assisted corpus analysis (CACA) by Manvender (2011). The data were analysed using a genre-based technique by Bhatia (1993). The particular moves and steps in both types of texts were recognised and categorised individually. The rhetorical structure of sales reply emails consists of three major moves: introducing product, product details, offering incentives. Although the respondents showed similarities in their moves, there were some differences such as the number and content of the moves as well as the contextual patterns
Supply Chain Risks and Organisational Performance among ISO 14001 Certified Manufacturing Sector
This study aimed to investigate each dimension of supply chain risks on economic and environmental performance. This study has performed the conceptual framework of supply chain risks and organisational performance. The data were collected by distributing 30 questionnaires to manufacturing companies that achieved ISO 14001 in Malaysia. The reliability test revealed that all variables ranged from 0.806 to 0.920, and the item measures have sufficient level of reliability. The descriptive analysis revealed that environmental risk is the most frequent supply chain risks in ISO 14001 certified manufacturing company in Malaysia. Another finding showed that both economic and environmental performances, on average, were highly moderated compared to the past two years of performance. Based on the findings, the researchers and practitioners are raising knowledge about the overall ranking of each dimension in supply chain risks. The findings of this study can be beneficial for top-level management specifically for the top management in ISO 14001 certified manufacturing companies in Malaysia. They will be aware of how to mitigate the supply chain risks and how to protect the supply chain management. Future study can include the strategy or practices that can improve both economic and environmental performance by reducing the supply chain risks
