    No full text
This study is grounded in the social exchange theory. The present study aims to investigate employee engagement\u27s intervening role in the relationship between person-organization fit and turnover intention of business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in Metro Manila, Philippines. The participants were identified using a purposive sampling technique from BPO employees (n = 302). Quantitative research and a predictive-causal approach were used to measure interrelationships among constructs, and partial least squares–structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to estimate the parameters of the structural model. The findings revealed that person-organization fit and employee engagement significantly and negatively affect turnover intention. Moreover, a significant and positive relationship between person-organization fit and employee engagement was also observed. Employee engagement was also found to significantly and negatively mediate between person-organization fit and turnover intention. Future research includes developing a study comparing BPO companies to other industries based on the three latent variables used in this undertaking

Airborne magnetic and radiometric data set over part of Nasarawa, North central Nigeria have been enhanced and interpreted qualitatively. Attributes maps (first and second vertical derivative; and analytic signal maps) from the total magnetic intensity map (TMI) were used to delineate near-surface structures hosting sedimentary rocks forming minerals and differentiate regions based on amplitude responses. The structure trends NE-SW, NW-SE, E-W and N-S directions and the area is predominantly underlain by basement and sedimentary outcrops in the northeastern/western, central portion and southern parts respectively. The total cout map showed the low, moderate and high levels ranged from 6.40 to 14.70 ?R/h, 13.31 to 16.66 ?R/h and 18.02 to 41.23 ?R/h respectively. The Potassium concentration revealed the lowest concentration level (0.02-0.0.16%), moderate level (0.17-0.47%) and highest concentration of (18–27%). The lowest concentration level in the eTh map is related to siltstones and sandstones (Ansh), shale and mudstones (Nsh) and sandstone. The highest level reaches 31.35 ppm in volcanics rocks. The equivalent Uranium concentration map (eU) indicates that the high level of uranium concentration is associated with the black shales, siltstones and sandstones (Ansh) while shale and mudstones (Nsh), sandstones, shale and sandy clay (LaSS), sandstones (Ess), shale and limestones (Esh) and alluvium deposition has the lowest one. The potassium thorium ratio map shows zones characterized by the high K/eTh ratio values that are strong indicators of hydrothermal alteration. From the K/eTh ratio map, it can be observed that the areas affected by the hydrothermal process are featured in pink colour and have a high value of 0.37 in the K/eTh ratio which is an indication of gold mineralisation

Evaluation of groundwater resources of Girei and environs is necessary in order to develop appropriate water supply scheme to the community. Cases of borehole failures have been on increase in the area due to a lack of knowledge of the aquifer geometry. The study is aimed at delineating the groundwater potential zones of Girei and environs with the objectives of delineating the different aquifer systems, estimating the aquifer characteristics such as transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity using the Dar Zarrouk parameter, determining groundwater flow direction, and identifying the recharged and discharged areas. Geological investigation indicates that the area underlain by Bima sandstone. Thirty profiles of Vertical Electrical Sounding using Schlunberger array method with the aid of ABEM signal averaging system (SAS 1000) was used to determine aquifer types and groundwater potential zones. Correlation between borehole lithological section and geoelectric section within the study area revealed a confineded aquifer type. The aquifer characteristics indicate that the transverse resistance ranged between 29.796 to 238000 ?m2, longitudinal conductance ranged between 0.0148 ?-1 to 9.34 ?-1, hydraulic conductivity values range from 0.0014 to 5.865 m/s with an average value of 0.0355 m/s. Transmissivity values obtained from the various layers range from 237.6 m2/day to 6324 m2/day. Aquifer rating based on transmissivity values reveals that the aquifers in the study area have moderate to high potential

    No full text
Academic writing, as the most crucial skill needed for EFL learners, is challenging for the international students in Malaysia. Such difficulties among university students appear to affect EFL learner’s academic performance as compared with that of native language users. This study aims to investigate the perceived difficulties in English academic writing among international undergraduate students in a private university in Malaysia and the reasons causing the difficulties. The study enjoyed an embedded mixed-method design. The qualitative data was collected by semi-structured interviews whereas the quantitative method was collected by questionnaire-based survey. A total of 348 participants participated in the survey in two rounds of data collection within 2 years. The qualitative data played a primary role, and the quantitative data had a supportive role to obtain comprehensive information. The findings revealed that the participants faced difficulties in their academic writing in terms of lexico-structural (insufficient English vocabulary, making more spelling and grammar mistakes), logical organization (making coherent and cohesive writing, making outlines and expressing their own ideas clearly), content (writing clear thesis statement and topic sentence, and difficulty in using examples for illustration), and finding-and-citing (finding related sources and making in-text citation). These difficulties were attributed to external factors (few opportunities to practice the English language, L1 influence, medium of instruction, and the status of the English language) and internal factors individuals’ weak English foundation, low English proficiency and lack of practice in English writings). Based on the findings, implications were drawn for EFL students and instructors

Mathematics is one of the important subjects in the education system of this country. However, students generally think that Mathematics is a subject that is quite difficult to master because they do not have the interest to learn. The selection of appropriate teaching style(s) can attract students to learn. Indirectly, the learning process is also simplified, therefore allowing students to understand the content of lessons. The success or failure of students is associated with the teaching style(s) that teachers use while teaching. Indirectly, teachers’ teaching style(s) becomes one of the components of a comprehensive teaching content transfer and as a major determining factor of student learning success. Therefore, the teaching style(s) adopted in delivering Teaching and Learning (T&L) should be appropriate to the activities and objectives to be presented to students in order to increase students’ willingness to learn and in consequence, their level of understanding

    No full text
Malaysia is well-known for being multicultural, consisting of three significant ethnicities, the Malays, Chinese and Indians, and the minorities such as the Middle Eastern and small European groups. This group of ethnicities mentioned eventually made their mark in Malaysia and can be easily distinguishable from their unique and distinctive cultural identities. Being a multicultural country, it will not elude having some cultural crossover. From an architectural perspective, the different cultures in Malaysia can be distinguished from their architectural building form, including the church buildings. So, this research has been carried out in Penang by observing and studying the historical church buildings. This study will attempt to identify local cultural influences on these historical church buildings through their building form. Five historical churches were handpicked from the rest of Penang to conduct this research. This paper will also present results from self-observations and the study of existing data from published books and research papers. After acquiring adequate knowledge of the various architectural building forms of churches, the findings will indicate that cultural factors play significant roles in the differences in designs of the historical church building form found in Penang. This study found that the Malay and Chinese cultures mainly influence Malaysian architectural forms.

CONTRIBUTION OF INDONESIAN OIL PALM PLANTATIONS TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

    No full text
This research will describe how the contribution of the Indonesian palm oil industry to sustainable development both economically, socially and environmentally. Oil palm is the main plantation commodity in Indonesia and is now one of the world\u27s main sources of vegetable oil. The area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia continues to increase rapidly, until 2021 it reaches 15 million ha, the intense competition between vegetable oils has led to many black campaigns and accusations of being a driver of deforestation in Indonesia. The research method used is descriptive empirical research, by analyzing the history of oil palm plantations in Indonesia and the relationship between the development of Indonesian oil palm plantations with the economy, social and environment. Based on satellite data studied by Gunarso, it was revealed that the origin of Indonesia\u27s oil palm plantations was mostly from degraded land, and only 3.4 percent was converted from primary forest. This proves that oil palm plantations as the main driver of deforestation in Indonesia are not true. In the economic aspect, the palm oil industry contributes in generating foreign exchange, regional development and has succeeded in creating middle-income farmers. In the social aspect, the oil industry plays a role in rural development and poverty alleviation and equitable distribution of economic development, as well as increasing income inequality and development. In the environmental aspect, oil palm plantations contribute to sustainable development through their role in absorbing CO2 and producing O2, as well as increasing land biomass.

Preliminary study on phenotype and genotype of antibiotic resistance in Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serotype Typhimurium Isolated from Chicken Samples in Malaysia

    No full text
Salmonellosis is a significant public health concern around the world. The issue of antibiotic resistance, particularly in non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS), is a global threat to human and animal health. Thirty-five Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serotype Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) isolated from various chicken samples were tested for antimicrobial-resistant profiling using the disc diffusion method. The strains were further examined for the presence of the resistance genes by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) according to published protocols. Phenotype resistance profiling revealed that 22.9% (8 out of 35) isolates showed resistance to five antibiotics used in this study. All the penta-resistant isolates carried the blaTEM, floR, strA, and tetA gene which encoded for ampicillin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, and tetracycline resistance. Only one isolate (1 out of 35) was found to contain the sulfonamides resistance, sulA gene. Nine isolates were found susceptible to all antibiotics tested and do not harbor any of the resistant associated genes. These findings provide evidence that the presence of resistance genes contributes to the phenotypic resistance profile, and thus could give rise to the emergence of the drug-resistant strain of Salmonella
