The Verb clear and the Prepositions of/from in the History of English

This paper aims to clarify the development of the complementation of the verb clear co-occurring with the prepositions of and from. Our investigations based on EEBO and COHA show that the ‘NP-AGENT clear NP-LOCATION(HUMAN) of NP-LOCATUM(AN)’ form and the ‘NP-AGENT clear NP-LOCATION(HUMAN) from NP-LOCATUM(AN)’ form, both of which were derived from the syntactic structures of the verbs of removal in Old English, were dominant in the Modern English period, but in Present-day English the former was gradually replaced by the ‘NP-AGENT clear NP-LOCATION of NP-LOCATUM(CN)’ form and the latter the ‘NP-AGENT clear NP-LOCATUM(CN) from NP-LOCATION(CN)’ form.departmental bulletin pape

An Analysis of the Discourse on “Openness” in Housing Works of the 2010s Japan

Openness has been part of Japanese housing culture since a long time ago. As society and housing culture progress, it might be natural that the concept of openness also develops and changes. To plan the future, we first need to know how this concept has been and is currently being used. Therefore, this research aims to understand the application of openness concept in contemporary houses in Japan. Using KH Coder 3, a text mining analysis program, ten years of article texts in Housing Special magazine (Jutakutokushu) are extracted and the co-occurrence networks are analyzed. Projects containing “openness” are analyzed further to find the considerations taken and their common characteristics. The ten years of co-occurrence networks show a general understanding of the use of the most frequent words, while further analysis of projects representing openness concept shows common consideration in the design: an intention to create a relationship with its surroundings.departmental bulletin pape

Historical Transition of Shinsakae Shopping Arcade Space

Shinsakae Shopping Street Arcade is a modern all-covered arcade that was built for the first time after the war in central Fukui City. The Shinsakae Shopping Street, where the arcade still exists, is located near the west exit of JR Fukui Station. There are many wooden buildings facing the alleys less than 4m without changing the basic appearance, but in recent years, the age of the buildings and arcades themselves has become a problem. The purpose of this study is to understand the historical transition of the arcade and the Shinsakae shopping district, and the current situation of the Shinsakae shopping district arcade, through actual measurement surveys of the arcade, interviews with people involved in the shopping district, or literature and materials.departmental bulletin pape

Determination of Lead in a Game Pet Food by Pressure Acid Decomposition / Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

In the present study, we attempted to determine trace lead (Pb) in a game pet food by using a method combining pressure acid decomposition and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS). It was confirmed that there was no contamination by a blank test, and that there was no volatilization of Pb during decomposition by an addition recovery experiment. As a result of four analyzes, the recovery rate exceeded 100% in all cases, but this was due to the small amount of sample collected, which was near the determination limit of GF-AAS (0.4 µg L-1). It was found that the estimated value of the Pb content in the sample obtained from the quantitative results was about 0.2 µg g-1, which was less than the Pb standard value of 3 µg g-1for a pet food. In order to obtain more accurate quantitative results, it is necessary to increase the amount of sample collected.departmental bulletin pape

On the Design Development of Event Trays Made of Biodegradable Resin

In 2021, the authors collaborated with Sanwa Shokai Co., Ltd. on the design and development of trays for events under contract with the company. Sanwa Shokai applied for a subsidy from the Fukui Prefecture's Growth Industry Challenge Support Project in FY2021, and the project was selected to Type C. The purpose of this paper is to present an overview of the design work of the trays for events, to record the development process, and to discuss the authors' reflections on the product using the company's cutting edge technology of biodegradable resin, its product value and form of the trays, and its usability.othe

A survey of coping methods when menstruation coincides with sports competitions among high school female athletes

The purpose of this study was to clarify the actual conditions regarding the menstrual cycle, the degree of menstrual pain, and coping when menstruation coincides with the timing of sports competitions, based on a questionnaire survey among high school female students in sports clubs. The results revealed that 5.5% of the students answered “no menstruation for more than 3 months”, and that 25.4% of the students had severe menstrual cramps. The majority of the students (63.0%) answered that they had “I had problems” due to the overlap of the menstrual period and the sports competitions, but the most common response (50.9%) was “Do nothing in particular,” indicating that the students may not have taken appropriate coping methods to deal with menstruation.departmental bulletin pape

Motion characteristics of students who kick with an inappropriate foot posture during soccer instep kicking - Analysis performed by type of foot posture -

In soccer instep kicks, it is important to plantarflex the foot joint, tilt the foot to the side, and turn the instep forward at the time of ball impact. This study aimed to examine the characteristics of motion of those who kick with an inappropriate foot posture and clarify the points of motion that should be improved. Five male soccer players (experienced) and 32 male students were included in the study. Data on the postures of the support and swing legs were acquired from the images of the high-speed camera installed behind the subject. As a result of the analysis, the subjects who kicked the ball on the inside of the foot had a swing motion in which the knee of the swing leg faced outward and the tilt of the swing leg to the side was small. Moreover, the subject who had less tilt of the foot to the side had a swing motion in which the knee of the swing leg faced forward, but both the support and swing legs had less tilt to the side. In this way, even in the case of inappropriate foot posture, the motion characteristics differ depending on the type, so it is considered necessary to guide according to each pattern.departmental bulletin pape

Influence of endurance training before sprint training on the intensity of sprint training

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of endurance training before sprint training in swimming training on the intensity of subsequent sprint training. Four collegiate swimmers were given swim training with a combination of endurance training and sprint training (EnSp) and sprint training only (Sp). At rest, after endurance training, and after sprint training, blood lactate concentration (Lac), and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were measured at EnSp. At Sp, Lac and RPE were measured at rest and after sprint training. Heart rate (HR) and swim records were measured during endurance training and sprint training. Lac after endurance training in EnSp increased compared to resting (2.15±0.73→7.68±2.98 mmol/l). Comparing the swimming records of sprint training in EnSp and Sp, there was no difference between them. On the other hand, HR and Lac showed lower values in Sp. We suggested that endurance training before sprint training enhances glucose metabolism and may increase of lactic-glycolytic energy supply in subsequent sprint training.departmental bulletin pape
