    The Corrosion Study of the Intermediate Nuclear Spent Fuel Storage Facility

    In Japan, many facilities are constructed along the seashore and the nuclear power plants which need cooling water are also constructed along the seashore. In addition, spent fuel intermediate storage facilities are planned to be constructed in the Sea of Japan coast area. In pursuing sea salt aerosol-induced corrosion research, it was necessary to perform corrosion tests under a certain set of environmental conditions since corrosion of structures was known to be highly sensitive to environmental factors. To improve the corrosive condition, we considered to use filter. The definition of filter goodness on this study is that the amount of sea salt reduction is large as compared with pressure loss. From this view point, we carried out the filter performance test. From this tests result, we confirmed that our selected filters have good performance.departmental bulletin pape

    Evaluation of Total Phosphorus Concentration in Lake Kitagata using Multi-Spectral Satellite Images

    The purpose of this study is to develop a procedure for estimating the total phosphorus concentration of highly eutrophic lakes from multispectral satellite images. The test site is Lake Kitagata which is a brackish, eutrophic lake and has high chlorophyll-a concentration. The correlation coefficients between total phosphorus concentration and chlorophyll-a concentration (field survey data provided by Fukui Prefectural Institute of Public Health and Environmental Science) have been calculated to obtain the procedure for estimating total phosphorus concentration. The preliminary results indicate that the correlation coefficients between them in the water area with high chlorophyll-a concentration, are very high. It is, therefore, possible to obtain the total phosphorus concentration from chlorophyll-a concentration which can be obtained using multi-spectral satellite images.departmental bulletin pape

    Structural Chemistry of the Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complexes of Physiologically Active Compounds –X-ray Structural Studies on l-menthol-β-cyclodextrin Complex

    The crystal structure of an inclusion complex of β-cyclodextrin with l-menthol has been determined by X-ray diffraction method. The crystals were very unstable in air, so they were sealed in thin-walled glass capillary tubes with small amount of water on the bottom of them. The complex crystallized in monoclinic, P21 with a=15.411(1), b=32.798(1), c=15.424(1)Å, β=102.28(1)°. The unit cell includes two molecules composed of two β -cyclodextrins and two l-mentols. Dimeric β -cylrodextrins make the infinite channel to include hydrophobic l-menthol molecules in it.departmental bulletin pape

    Coefficient of Friction in Diamond-Like Carbon Films

    The pin-on-plate and the pin-on-disk friction test were carried out to clarify the mechanism of low friction coefficient of diamond like carbon (DLC) films. As the test piece, six kinds of commercially available DLC coated specimens were prepared. The hydrogen content of DLC was determined by elastic recoil detection analysis (ERDA) method using 2 MeV of He ion beam from the tandem accelerator. Pin-on-plate type friction test was carried out with the combination of DLC coated pin and high-speed tool steel plate. As a result of the friction test, it became clear that in the case of these combinations, all DLC show a low coefficient of friction of 0.08 - 0.09 in initial term, and it rises with time. In the case of DLC with a low hydrogen content, debris of heat-affected DLC was not observed in and around the wear truck of plate. These tendency were different from the conventional experiment that coated DLC to a plate. As a general tendency in this experiment, harder DLC film maintained lower coefficient of friction. From this result, it was estimated that DLC with low abrasion maintain high contact pressure and develop a low coefficient of friction.departmental bulletin pape

    In the relationship to the direction of giving and accepting, both Japanese and Chinese have common and different points. So they were researched in 『Comparison of Japanese and Chinese about relationship's direction of giving and accepting』 . And at the centre of these points of difference what stands out is the changing of the direction of grace. The saying of「A helps B to do something 」 is normal and it has a patronizing sense but the condescending tone is absent in Chinese. On the other hand, in Japanese, in order not to belittle the person you are talking to and thus feel uncomfortable, you must change the direction of grace with the expressions about relationship of giving and accepting.
