Mechanical Behavior of Semi-Rigid Beam-to-Column Connection in Existing Steel Structure

The cyclic loading tests of five welded beam-to-column connections are reported. Effect of materials used for an electrostatic shield on the sensitivity of ICP mass spectrometry
Get PDFIn order to improve the sensitivity of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), the effect of materials used for an electrostatic shield was investigated. By using the electrostatic shield made of austenitic stainless steel, signal-to-background (SB) ratios of analyte elements increased 2-4 times compared to the use of a commercially available shield. The enhancement of SB ratios by using nonmagnetic stainless steel suggests that the nickel content of the shielding materials is concerned with the improvement of the sensitivity. The electrostatic shield made of SUS304, which is a kind of austenitic stainless steels, was scarcely damaged after using for many hours. The SUS304 was found to be a useful material for electrostatically shielding in ICP-MS.departmental bulletin pape

Two-photon Ionization of Biphenyl in the presence of Cyclodextrin in water solution
Get PDFFormation and decay of biphenyl (BP) radical cation and solvated electron during resonant two-photon ionization (TPI) of BP in the absence and presence of cyclodextrins were studied by transient absorption measurement using 266-nm laser flash photolysis technique. Ionization of BP occurred within the time interval of laser flash (5 ns) to give BP radical cation (BP ˙+), which was confirmed by the observation of solvated electron at 720 nm in the presence of α-, β-, mβ-, and γ-cyclodextrins (α-CD, β-CD, mβ-CD, and γ-CD, respectively) in water solvent. The radical cation and the electrons were generated by two-photon excitation using simultaneous irradiation of 266-nm laser, and the ionization yields of BP in the presence of α-CD, β-CD, mβ-CD, and γ-CD depended on the properties of the complexes with CDs. These results suggest that TPI obviously takes place with the complexes of BP and α-CD or two α-CDs, BP and β-CD, BP and mβ-CD, and BP and γ-CD.departmental bulletin pape

UV-Visible Absorption and Fluorescence Spectra of Substituted Polyacetylenes
Get PDFSubstituted polyacetylenes are composed of alternating carbon-carbon double bonds along the main chain and various side groups, and exhibit interesting properties and functions such as various colors, photoconductivity, photoluminescence and electroluminescence. The present study deals with the measurements of UV-visible absorption and fluorescence spectra of six substituted polyacetylene samples aiming at elucidating the effects of side groups on UV-visible absorption and fluorescence. The present study has revealed the following three points: 1) a Si-containing poly(diphenylacetylene) derivatives exhibited strong absorptions and fluorescences, 2) Cl-containing disubstituted acetylene polymers showed absorptions in the UV region but no emissions, and 3) ring-substituted poly(phenylacetylene)s displayed strong absorptions but almost no emissions.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDFThe combustion process of diesel engines influences the generation of poisonous substances such as PM and NOX. On the other hand, BDF (Bio Diesel Fuel) which has attracted attention as an alternative fuel containing a lot of oxygen promotes the combustion of diesel engines, hence the improvement of thermal efficiency and the decrease in the amount of PM exhaust can be expected. In this research, the combustion states were observed in the performance tests of the diesel engines with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) by using light oil and BDF. And the relation between the exhaust gas characteristics and the combustion characteristics was examined. The west side premises in Jyonohashi left the tradesmen ground of SHIBATA Era for the Keicho years and were done allotment of the premises. There were many premises substitutes of the west side premises in Jyonohashi soon after `TADAMASA' migrated to Fukui Castle Town in the beginning of Kanei Era. The allotment of the premises remained its west side premises from Manji 2 till the late Edo period. In the west side premises of the Jyonohashi, most premises were samurai residences through the Edo Era. Calculation of Mass Peak Profiles for Quadrupole Mass Filter with Deformed Rod Arrangement
Get PDFMass peak profiles for quadrupole mass filter with deformed rod arrangement are calculated to investigate profile defects such as unexpected peak separation and precursor peaks to adversely affect mass spectrometry. In this paper we treat rod deformed arrangement such as rohmbus–positioned rod arrangement and square arrangement with different rod radius. The electrostatic potentials inside such rod arrangements are obtaind as multipole expansions, the coeffcients of which are calculated. Using these expansions, the motion equations of ions are calculated to get the mass peak profiles. The result shows that in the present case no peak separations and no precursor peaks appear. We conclude that rod deformation is not always to have a negative influence on mass peak analysis.departmental bulletin pape
Consideration about the ant colony optimization in the fuzzy estimation of the pulmonary elastance
Get PDFThe characteristic of pulmonary is different, and the setting of the respirator is decided by the experience and the perception of the doctor now. Therefore, the suitable setting of ventilation conditions is needed for every patient. The static P-V curve expresses the characteristic of human lungs, and that is needed for the parameter setting of the respirator. Thus we must estimate the pulmonary elastance and the static P-V curve. In our previous work, the fuzzy logic technique has been proposed to estimate the pulmonary elastance that is a nonlinear function by fuzzy combination of first order functions. However, manual operation is needed to set suitable range of the fuzzy variables in this technique. In this paper, an optimization algorithm is proposed for fuzzy variables's range setting, and the effectiveness of the suggested technique is illustrated by an estimation example using real patient data.departmental bulletin pape
