    Reactions in the Interface of 9Cr-1Mo Steel and Melted Sodium

    In the next-generation fast breeder reactor, improved 9Cr-1Mo steel and molten sodium will be used as structure materials and a coolant, respectively, and operating temperature of the sodium will be at approximately 550℃. However, it does not become clear about reactions at the surface of 9Cr-1Mo steel, when the 9Cr-1Mo steel has been used for a long term in such a high temperature sodium environment. Therefore we have examined the sodium corrosion at the specimen surface of 9Cr-1Mo steel using by scanning electron microscope and analyzed the interface of the steel and melted sodium.departmental bulletin pape

    Adhesion Treatment of Graphite to the Surface of SUS304 Stainless Steel to Develop the Metal Separator for Fuel Cell

    At present, a commercially available fuel cell is too expensive, and cost reduction of it is required. Particularly, cost reduction of the separator, which is one of the important component of fuel cell, is necessary. In this study, a new surface treatment has been applied to the separator of SUS304 stainless steel, which is a candidate material for a low price separator, to improve electric conductivity. At first, we immersed stainless steel sheets in the mixture of ethyl alcohol and graphite powder to adhere graphite to the surface of stainless steel sheets uniformly.     Impact Oscillations between a Pantograph and an Overhead Conductor Line(Bifurcation Analysis Considering the Damping)

    This paper investigates the impact oscillations between a pantograph and an overhead rigid conductor line in a railway system. In this paper, we consider the damping effects on the periodic impact oscillations. The effects of damping on the periodic impact oscillations cannot be clarified by the conventional analytical method. We proposed the method of a numerical bifurcation analysis to investigate the effects of the corrugation of conductor line on these oscillations.     The study of riverside districts and town development based on their morphological characteristic

    The purpose of this paper is to investigate the riverside space and find an essence of constructing beautiful and ecological villages. In this study, we have carried out case studies on riverside districts, Itako, Ohmi-Hachiman, and Harie, and analyzed their morphological characteristic. With these studies, we have found four types in the riverside districts, which are district of picture, of traffic, of sightseeing and of ecology.     The relationship between muscle mass of trunk part estimated by biological impedance analysis and physical fitness and motor ability

    This study aimed to clarify the relationship between muscle mass of trunk part estimated by biological impedance analysis and physical fitness and motor ability.Subjects were 69 healthy male university students (age, 18.7 ± 0.4 years: height, 172.1 ± 5.4cm: weight, 67.2 ± 11.2 kg).A multifrequency body composition meter (MC 180: Tanita) was used to measure percent of body fat (%BF) and muscle mass of the trunk. The 8 physical fitness tests (grip strength, sit-ups, sit and reach, side-stepping, 20-m shuttle run, 50-m run, standing broad jump, and handball throwing) made up by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology were selected to measure physical fitness of subjects. %BF showed significant correlations with tests of sit-ups, 20-m shuttle run, a 50-m run, and standing broad jump and the total score (|r|=0.35~0.50、p<0.05). Muscle mass of trunk partshowed significant correlations with all tests except for 20-m shuttle run (|r|=0.30~0.70、p<0.05). In conclusion, it is inferred that the %BF affects motor ability tests with large body movement such as running and jumping. On the other hand, it is inferred that the muscle mass of trunk affects motor ability tests such as strength and throwing with the rotation of the trunk.departmental bulletin pape

    Light characteristics of Noh Stage lit by Candlelights

    Rohsoku Noh, which is performed on the stage lit by candlelights, was held in Otsu Traditional Performing Arts Center. We took this opportunity to investigate the light characteristics of Rohsoku Noh stage. The Noh stage was lit by twelve candles and several auxiliary electric lamps, because the defused light from a candle is so beautiful, but too dim to see the details of brocade costumes and mysterious masks.     Effect of Horizontal Tied Rebars on Precast Reinforced Concrete Core Walls

    Multistory core walls installed in high-rise reinforced concrete buildings effectively reduce seismic vibration. On the other hand, precast core walls are considered effective for construction because they can be built more quickly than cast-in-place core walls. In this study, lateral loading tests were conducted on precast wall columns simulating the corner and the area near the corner of the L-shaped precast core wall. The specimen consisted of four square-section precast columns. The vertical joints between the precast columns were grouted with high-strength mortar. Each precast column had cotters at the vertical joint. Based on the results of the lateral loading tests, the seismic performance of wall columns was clarified.departmental bulletin pape

    Studies on Time Dependence of the Gas Permeability of Poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne)

    Poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP) is one of the most gas permeable polymers among all the synthetic polymers. Its oxygen permeability coefficient (Po2) reaches up to about 10 000 barrers. It is known that the gas permeability of PTMSP decreases with time, but the details are not clear yet. In the present study, the time dependence of the gas permeability of PTMSP was examined by storing the membrane sample under three deferent conditions ; (1) in a sealed polyethylene suck, (2) in air, and (3) in a vacuum drying oven. Consequently the extent of decrease of gas permeability increased in the older of (1)<(2)<(3). This indicates that both the decrease of microvoid due to the relaxation and adsorption of organic vapor decrease the gas permeability of PTMSP.departmental bulletin pape

    The purpose of this study is the construction of the energy saving method at HOKURIKU district to reduce greenhouse gas by ensuring the water, the heat and the electric energy. In this research, the reduction efficiency of CO2 emission was calculated and compared to the construction case of the energy saving device in the institute of technology. The 30kW photovoltaic (PV) system, 300kW PV system and 400kW cogeneration system are used as the energy saving device in this calculation. As the result, CO2 emission can be extremely reduced by introducing 300kW PV and 400kW cogeneration system.departmental bulletin pape
