Investigation about the Continuity of the Sign in a Transit Center (3)
In the public space of the city, the sign is effective as a method to provide the information to users. In this study that we began in 2001, we performed 50 times of investigations in railway stations and the outskirts space. We refer to the space constitution and the space change of the course at three stations (JR Hiroshima Station, JR Okayama Station, JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station) in this article. And we refer to the analysis of signs that there is at those stations. We speak the result that we analyzed as follows. By the place of the station of a streetcar, we understood that the intelligibility of space was different. It is revealed that the signs of three stations were not unified. It will be necessary to think about the space constitution so that people transfers from the railway to the streetcar smoothly. And it is necessary to consider the sign as a system.departmental bulletin pape
Comparison of the Structural Performance of Monolithic and Precast Reinforced Concrete Core Walls
In the core wall system in high-rise buildings, the four L-shaped core walls at the center effectively reduce seismic vibration. On the other hand, precast core walls are effective for construction because they can be built more quickly than cast-in-place core walls. In this study, a lateral loading test was conducted on a monolithic wall column simulating the corner and the area near the corner of an L-shaped core wall. The test results were compared with those of a precast wall column tested previously. The precast wall column was divided into precast columns, and horizontal tied rebars were concentrated at the second and third floor levels, and the mid height level of the first story. Based on a comparison of the results of lateral loading tests with monolithic and precast wall columns, the structural performance of these wall columns was clarified.departmental bulletin pape
Change in Fuel Injection Pressure of Diesel Engine by Using Bio Fuel
BDF (Bio Diesel Fuel) which has drawn attention as an alternative fuel containing a lot of oxygen promotes the combustion of diesel engines, hence the improvement in thermal efficiency can be expected. However, the atomization characteristics in the case of BDF are worse than gas oil because the kinetic viscosity is high, and the PM emission tends to increase compared to using gas oil. In this research, the relation between the exhaust gas characteristics and the combustion characteristics were examined respectively in the performance tests by the diesel engines with the common rail fuel injection system that can change fuel injection pressure by using gas oil and BDF. As a result, it was clarified that the operating characteristics were improved by injecting BDF with high pressure.departmental bulletin pape
A State Space Approach to the Estimation of Price Adjustment Model
This paper proposes a method to estimate the parameters of price adjustment model based on the Kalman filter and smoother. From the estimated parameters, we decompose the observed stock return volatility to the value return volatility and the market microstructure noise volatility. We argue that this method may be considered an attractive alternative to the method of observed return's moments. We use data on the eighty stocks of the TOPIX 100 to illustrate the method. The results indicate that the method seems to work well. An empirical analysis provides evidence that the adjustment coefficient represents partial price adjustment to new intrinsic value. We also find that the value return volatility is higher than the market microstructure noise volatility.departmental bulletin pape
Tsunami Propagation Analysis Based on Recorded Videos on the Web Site
At 14:46 local time on March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred off the coast of northeast Japan. It was one of the most powerful earthquakes to have hit Japan. This earthquake caused a Tsunami which attacked Japan as well as a wide range of localities around the Pacific Ocean. According to the report of Japan Meteorological Agency, inundation heights were observed between about 7m and about 12m from the northern part of Fukushima Prefecture to the southern part of Iwate Prefecture. The authors focus on the characteristics of Tsunami in the propagation process. Study is based on the videos shot when Tsunami came. From the analysis of Tsunami propagation, it is known that Tsunami will inundate fast the some area.departmental bulletin pape
Study on Turning Performance of Formula-style Small Race Cars
Camber is an angle of gradient of the wheel seen from the front of a car. In the wheel alignment of the car, the camber causes strong influence on turning performance. The camber calculated with the change in the ground contact areas of tires with the roll turning beforehand might be used in race cars. In this research, to clarify the influence which the change in the camber angle gave to turning performance, test run by a formula-style small race car to which tilt to the steer of the wheel was added was executed. As a result, it was confirmed to improve turning performance of a race car by applying the camber to the direction where the wheel was steered.departmental bulletin pape
Accidents in School Sports Facilities – Case Studies on the Precautions and Preventions in the Facility Management –
This study aimed to survey the actual situations of accidents in school sports facilities, and to consider the causes and future preventative measures. A written questionnaire survey (valid response rate of 99.0%) was conducted for our 100 students (at the ages from 18 to 20). The results of our survey indicated that causes of accidents in school sports facilities were miss catches of balls, etc., but there were a few cases that should be considered as safety and management issues of the facilities, such as falls of strength training equipments. In order to prevent accidents in the future, it is essential that the facility managers strictly inspect the facilities and equipments, and conduct safety management trainings in regular basis, as well as education programs related to the safety management.departmental bulletin pape
Two-Photon Ionization of Carbaryl in the Presence of Cyclodextrin
Transient absorption measurement of Carbaryl(1-naphthyl methylcarbamate : CA)as an agricultural chemical was performed by using 266-nm laser flash photolysis technique in the presence of cyclodextrins (CDs)in water solution.Ionization of CA within the laser flash (5 ns)produced a water solvated electron. The electron was generated by two-photon excitation by means of simultaneous irradiation from a266-nm laser, and the ionization quantum yields of CA in the presence of α-CD, β-CD and γ-CD depended on the properties of the complexes with CDs.These behaviors suggest that the useful two-photon ionization results from the complexes of CA and α-CD, β-CD and γ-CD, respectively.Ionization quantum yield of CA in the presence of CDs (1.0 ×10-2 mol dm-3)is dependent on the fluorescence lifetimes(τ).In addition, in the same way, ionization quantum yield of CA in the presence of CDs (1.0×10-3 mol dm-3)is dependent on the τ.This study demonstrates two-photon ionization using UV irradiation in the presence of CDs in water solvent of agricultural chemicalsdepartmental bulletin pape
A Dynamical Diffraction Theory of X-rays for a Largely Distorted Crystal II. Application of the Green's Function Method
The solution of the fundamental equation of the wave field for a largely distorted crystal is expressed, using the Green's function method. A Green's function is introduced in a tensor form for the Maxwell's equation for the electric field vector. Using Stratton's theorem, the wave filed inside the crystal is expressed as an integral using the Green's function on the crystal surface. Furthermore, the Green's function is expressed as a sum of two functions referred as a forward transfer function and a backward one, the former of which mainly contributes the above surface integral. From this result, in the case that all significant wave components of the transmitted and other diffracted waves emerge from the exit crystal surface as in the Laue case diffraction, the wave field inside the crystal for an arbitrary incident wave is decided directly as an integral over the entrance crystal surface with the forward transfer Green's function.departmental bulletin pape
