Implementation and Evaluations of Psychology Education in “Introduction to Psychology" for Freshmen : A Follow-up Study of Students' Critical Thinking Ability and Meta-Cognition Skills.
This study examined implementation and evaluations of psychology education in “Introduction to Psychology" for freshmen. College students had taken lesson in critical thinking and meta-cognition and did worksheets after receiving lectures about them in “Introduction to Psychology" class. Although no significant results have been demonstrated at pre- and post-test for students in the class, the results of the implementing group demonstrated significantly higher level of critical thinking disposition questionnaire than the control group in the follow-up study had about one year after the class had finished. The results showed that this study revealed the beneficial effects of implementing the program for developing critical thinking skills in the class. Moreover it suggested that it is necessary to design and implement the teaching method such as active learning for enhancing students' critical thinking and meta-cognition skills.departmental bulletin pape
departmental bulletin pape
Effects on Operation Characteristics of Exhaust Gas Recirculation of Diesel Engines Using Bio Fuel
Bio Diesel Fuel (BDF) contains a lot of oxygen, but the ignitability is inferior because of its high viscosity compared with gas oil. Previous research has shown that the combustion status of BDF has been improved through increased net thermal efficiency with a larger fuel supply. However, the NOX density in the exhaust gas increased in that case as well with the rise of combustion temperature. In this study, effective EGR for NOX decrease is applied and the effect on operation characteristics of the engine is investigated. In particular, the expected increase in PM emissions due to the lower excess air factor is compared with that when using gas oil. The results make it clear that superior operating characteristics during BDF use can be obtained in comparison to the use of gas oil, in operating conditions with a decreased excess air factor.departmental bulletin pape
Deterioration Characteristics of Bridges in Various Districts of Fukui Prefecture
The deterioration characteristics of bridges have been clarified with progress of inspection of bridges in Fukui prefecture. In this study, the deterioration transfer curve of each member element of bridges in Sabae, Ono, Katsuyama, Fukui and Obama cities isintroduced to compare the deterioration characteristics. The differences of characteristics are discussed for each bridge type. It is emphasized that the deterioration transfer curves of bridges should be introduced in each district considering the environmental difference. Furthermore, the causes of deteriorations for each member element are detected by classifying 4156 numbers of damages in bridgesdepartmental bulletin pape

In order to support these students, it is required for counselor in student guidance office to collaborate closely with other faculties and staffs inside the university and outside.departmental bulletin pape
The Relationship between Ability to Maintain a Stable Posture on an Unstable Stool and Leg Strength, Balance Ability and Fall Experiences in the Female Elderly
This study examined the relationship between ability to maintain a stable posture on an unstable stool (involuntary stimulation test: IS test) and physical functions and fall experiences in the female elderly. The subjects were 137 elderly female (age, 76.6 +6.2years; height, 147.8+5.4cm; weight, 49.3+7.5kg). Physical functions included isometric leg strength, and balance ability. They were administered the above-stated various tests and surveys on fall experience. The relationships between each parameter were examined by Pearson's correlation coefficient. The differences between the non-fall group and fall group in stable index was examined using unpaired t-tests. The significance level in this study was set at p < 0.05.Significantly lower correlations were found between the IS test and the one-leg standing with eyes open (OLS) test (|r|= 0.23), and between the IS test and the functional reach (FR)test (|r| = 0.26).In addition, non-fall group was superior in ability to maintain a stable posture on an unstable stool compared with fall group. In this study, we found a significant relationship between the IS and the OLS tests, and between the IS and the FR tests; however, it was not high. The IS test is related to a different ability than the OLS and FR tests.departmental bulletin pape
The improvement of Neighboring Traffic Environments with The Large-Scale Commercial Facilities Repair
The policy of Toyama-shi, Toyama Prefecture is “compact town development which assumed public transport an axis"with the consideration to future environment. However, around 90% of the customer of large-scale commercial facilities “Favore" use a car, and it will be necessary to plan the improvement of the traffic environment which does not depend on the car excessively. We investigated the present traffic environment around “Favore" and suggested improvement plan of the traffic environment based on it. For the problem solution of suburban large size commercial facilities in future such as an environmental problem and a traffic jam, a weak people in transportation, we lead to study of effectiveness of the action to the restraint of the visit by car and the induction of the visit by public transport and foot, bicycle.departmental bulletin pape
Initiatives in Project-Based Learning Utilizing Regional Sports Events
This report summarizes the content of the initiatives in PBL (project-based learning) that the Sports and Health Science Department is working on. Specifically, seminars that utilize the PBL technique were conducted in the following four stages. First, as a form of preliminary instruction, a lecture explaining the PBL model was held. A student also presented a proposal to make improvements intended to invigorate regional sports events that could be selected as the PBL task for that seminar. Second, the students and teachers participated in the Awara Onsen Canoe Festival, which was held as a city-wide event in Awara to invigorate the area. Third, after participating in the event, the students were divided into small groups of six to seven people each, and they discussed the strengths of the event and the aspects that required improvement on the basis of three perspectives: (1) playing, (2) watching, and (3) supporting. Fourth, they operated under the hypothetical scenario that the students themselves would be in charge of the event the following year, and they accordingly simulated a plan for holding the event, presenting the content created in the simulation. In such PBL-style seminars, the members of the groups shared information in every step of the way and planned the division of roles among each of the individuals while pushing forward with learning. This had the effect of increasing the students' sense of responsibility and desire to learn.departmental bulletin pape
