    Get PDF
In the classes of experiment of our department we have introduced the new theme 4years ago, where students develop simple programs and control a robot. For this experiment, we developed the learning tool based on the robot used in ET Robocon (ET Software Design Robot Contest). The purpose of this experiment is to arouse students' interest in computer programming. Since the reaction from students was favorable, it can be said that the learning tool was effective. We also deployed the tool for the classes of the high school students as one of the advertising of our department and won a favorable reception. On the other hand, the problems of the tool also became clear from the experience by the past classes. As we have updated the robot with the new LEGOMINDSTORMS EV3 from the obsolete NXT, we have improved the learning tool to mitigate the problems. In this report we will focus on the development of the simulator that is the main improvement of the learning tool.departmental bulletin pape

Experimental Study on Effect of Axial Load on Precast Reinforced Concrete Core Walls

    Get PDF
Precast core walls in high-rise buildings are effective for construction because they can be built more quickly than cast-in-place core walls. In this study, lateral loading tests were conducted on wall columns simulating the corner and the area near the corner of an L-shaped core wall with horizontal tied rebars. The specimen consisted of four square-section precast columns. The vertical joints between the precast columns were grouted with high-strength mortar. Each precast column had cotters at the vertical joint, and horizontal tied rebars were concentrated at the second and third floor levels, and the mid height level of the first story. Based on the results of lateral loading tests, the effect of axial load was clarified.departmental bulletin pape

    Get PDF
The Kumamoto earthquake is a series of seismic activity in Kumamoto Prefecture and prefectures around it including the former shock (M6.5, seismic intensity 7) which occurred at 21:26 on April 14, 2016, and the main shock (M7.3, seismic intensity 7) which occurred at 1:25 on April 16, and after shocks. In this paper, we detect disasters of Kumamoto earthquake by using remote sensing technique. The used data are aerial photographs (resolution: 35cm), ALOS-2/PALSAR-2 (resolution: 3m) and LANDSAT-8/OLI (resolution: 30m) data. We focus the disaster detection in Minami-Aso-Mura in Kumamoto Prefecture where was a most damaged area by the earthquake.departmental bulletin pape

    Get PDF
In this study, we investigated the water environment of the Katagawa River, which was found to be slightly polluted by field survey and water quality survey. From the Results of water quality survey, the river was gradually polluted from upstream to downstream. In addition, there was a tendency that the branch and subsequent portions of the river were more polluted. There are no point sources such as factories listed as pollution sources around the Katakawa River. Therefore, as a cause of pollution, influence of surface source such as farmland was suggested.departmental bulletin pape

Planar Vibration of a Bent Part in the Articulated Pipes due to the Pulsating Fluid Flow

    Get PDF
Planar and non-planar vibrations of Pipes conveying fluid have been studied for a long time as the generic problems of the flow-induced vibrations. However, many of these studies are devoted to the vibrations of the straight pipes conveying fluid. In this paper, as the first step to clarify the dynamics of curved pipes conveying fluid, we study the planar vibrations of a bent part in the articulated pipes due to the pulsating fluid flow. We derive the governing equation of bent part of the articulated pipe conveying fluid consisting of three rigid pipes. From the physical estimation of the governing equation, it is clarified that the bent part of the articulated pipes are forced excited due to the pulsating fluid flow. From the experimental results, theoretical results are qualitatively verified.departmental bulletin pape

Improvement of the Detection Method of Marine Debris Using Satellite Remote Sensing

    Get PDF
The flow of marine debris in the ocean causes extensive damage to coastal environments. It is considered important to understand the flow of marine debris in the ocean for environmental research purposes. The small size of most marine debris in the ocean means that marine debris cannot be confirmed directly, even when a high-spatial-resolution satellite image is used. Thus, in order to extract candidate pixels containing possible marine debris, pixels with spectra that differ from those of the surrounding ocean were identified. As a first step towards monitoring marine debris, a method for identifying marine debris floating on the ocean was proposed using the spectral angle mapper (SAM) algorithm in n-dimensional space corresponding to satellite spectral bands. The validity of the method using SAM was also shown. In this paper, a new method to discriminate marine debris from white crested waves is proposed using a distance from origin in n-dimensional scatter diagram. Moreover, a method to identify marine debris using pan-sharpened images is also discussed.departmental bulletin pape

Two-Photon Ionization of Picene in the Presence of Cyclodextrin

    Get PDF
Two-photon ionization (TPI) of picene (Pi) in the presence of cyclodextrin (CD) was investigated by using 266-nm laser pulse excitation. TPI of Pi was compared with TPI of phenanthrene (PH) and chrysene (Ch) from view point of the number of benzene rings. The formation of incorporation complex of Pi with CD (Pi/CD) was confirmed by 1H NMR measurement. The transient absorption of hydrated electrons released by Pi/CD was observed at 720 nm after a 5 ns laser flash at 266 nm. The ionization quantum yield (Φion) of Pi in the presence of α-, β-, and γ-CD (1.0 × 10-2 M) was calculated to be 3.4 ± 0.1%, 1.9 ± 0.1%, and 1.7 ± 0.1%, respectively, and it was attributed to the stabilization energy arising from solvation, which was affected by the area of Pi protruding from the cavity of the CD. When the concentration of CD was lowered to 1.0 × 10-3 M, Φion of Pi was increased by the stabilization energy arising from solvation. Additionally, we found that Φion of Pi with five benzene rings was much higher than PH and Ch with three and four benzene rings, respectively, which is because its structure is relatively susceptible to the stabilization of solvation. Overall, we concluded that the stabilization energy of solvation is important for the TPI of Pi/CD.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on the Solution of Lack of Living Water in Affected Areas by Using Rainwater – Report from the Disaster Area Survey of the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake –

    Get PDF
In this study, we discussed rainwater utilization at the time of a disaster from the result of the survey of disaster areas about 2.5 months after the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. At the time of a disaster, the water supply is cut off and living water such as toilet washing water is short. As a result, the sanitary condition of the evacuation shelter will be poor. The rainwater utilization in an evacuation facility is one way to solve such problems. By installing a rainwater storage tank about 10 m3 in a school gymnasium, evacuees can flush toilet once or twice a day. Therefore, rainwater utilization system should be installed in the evacuation facility.departmental bulletin pape
