Development of Performance Evaluation System for Low Power Wide Area Network using LoRaWAN
IoT (Internet of Things) has been focused as a network connecting all kinds of things. Since things are located in various environments including outdoors and rural as well as mountainous areas, a network employed in IoT cannot depend on commercially available power supply. Low power battery operation and wireless communication covering wide area are key requirements. A network that satisfies these requirements is called LPWA (Low-Power Wide-Area), where multiple specifications are proposed. Among them LoRaWAN is one of the most promising technologies and its deployment is expanding rapidly. As LoRaWAN employs Chirp Spread Spectrum for its Physical layer, there are a number of parameters and their tradeoffs. Since a user has to select the most suitable set of parameters for his own application, a system that can evaluate the performance of LoRaWAN is required. This paper describes the development of the performance evaluation system using LoRaWAN and preliminary results on the performance of LoRaWAN.departmental bulletin pape
Effects of Mixed Gas Oil and BDF Fuel on Exhaust Gas Characteristics of Diesel Engines with EGR
BDF is a diesel fuel using vegetable oil as its raw material. Previous research has found that using fuel with a mix of gas oil and BDF improves the exhaust gas characteristics of diesel engines, compared to using BDF alone. Elsewhere, EGR is widely used to reduce the NOx concentration in diesel engines, but it tends to increase PM emissions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to grasp the effects of mixed gas oil and BDF fuel on the exhaust gas characteristics of diesel engines with EGR. To this end, engine performance testing using mixed gas oil and BDF fuels with different oxygen content ratios was performed. The results showed that excellent exhaust gas characteristics can be obtained by using BDF appropriately mixed with gas oil when the EGR rate is increased within the range where normal operation can be maintained.departmental bulletin pape
Measurement for Cable Tensions of Nakatsuno Cable-stayed Bridge by Vibration Method
Recently, cable-stayed bridges have been constructed for the reasons of economical and aesthetic viewpoints. In the maintenance and management of the cable-stayed bridges, it is important to measure the cable tensions and make sure the safety of the structures by comparing with the designed cable tensions. In this study, the cable tensions of Nakatsuno cable-stayed bridge in Fukui city are measured by applying the vibration method with a 3-axis acceleration sensor module. The effectiveness and usefulness in applying the vibration method are confirmed for maintenance and management of the cable-stayed bridges.departmental bulletin pape
Development of Dose Evaluation Technology using PVA-KI Gel Dosimeter
Cancer treatment using radiation, which has less impact on the human body, will play an increasingly important role in Japan in the super-aged society. Therefore, in cancer treatment using radiation, visualization of radiation strength and distribution is an essential technique for accurate evaluation of dose distribution. Chemical dosimeters have been researched and developed at various research institutes, but have not been put into practical use due to issues such as chemical sensitivity, safety, cost and processing. In this laboratory, we developed a low-cost PVA-KI gel dosimeter (hereinafter PVA-KI gel) that can be manufactured at low cost using a PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) aqueous solution with a KI (potassium iodide) added component. Currently, UV-visible spectrophotometer is used for measurement of PVA-KI gel which requires expensive equipment and cannot easily provide dode distribution. In order to use PVA-KI gel that can be manufactured at low cost widely, development of a photometric measurement device specialized for PVA-KI gel is desired. In this study, we developed gel analysis software using a measuring device combining an organic EL panel and a digital camera in Visual Basic, to develop a system that can measure the absorbed dose of X-ray irradiation to PVA-KI gel.departmental bulletin pape
The Present Situation and Problem about Issuing Green Bonds in Japan
The Paris Agreement is an international legal framework agreed upon at the COP21 to deal with climate change. This agreement, which strives to reduce global temperatures by 2˚C, requires a huge investment of funds to infrastructure. As a result, a new “green bond" was created for the acquisition of funds to this end. Since its creation, major economic nations such as the USA, China, and Germany have firmly established their green bond markets. However, the current state of the market in Japan is still immature. It was revealed that the issuing procedure of the green bond in significantly more complex than that of a normal bond, and the incentive system behind a green bond does not exist.departmental bulletin pape
The relation between ball juggling skills and dribbling, shooting skills in soccer
This study aimed to clarify whether university students with high-level soccer juggling skills also have high-level dribbling and shooting skills. The participants were 76 male university students who were not members of the soccer club. They underwent ball juggling, zigzag dribbling, and instep kick shooting tests. Using the test results, the participants were classified into three groups according to juggling skill level. The analysis results showed that the group with high-level juggling skills had significantly higher zigzag dribbling skills. In addition, despite finding no significant differences, the group with high-level juggling skills tended to have high-level instep kick shooting skills.departmental bulletin pape
A Diachronic Study of the Complementation of the Verb rob
In Old English, verbs of deprivation like bereafian (>PE bereave) occurred in the double object construction when they had two complements. The two objects that appeared in the construction were the accusative and the genitive or the accusative and the dative. Besides the double object construction, the prepositional constructions, i.e., the of-construction and the from-construction, arose in the Middle English period due to the leveling of inflections. The of-phrase and the from-phrase originated from the genitive case and the dative case respectively. In Middle English, the verb rob, which was borrowed from French, occurred with the of-construction and it also appeared in the double object construction. However, in the Early Modern English period, the verb almost completely faded away from the double object construction because the constructional meaning that the construction in question bears is `X CAUSESY to RECEIVE Z'(cf. Goldberg (1995:49)) and the meaning the verb rob denotes could no longer go with the constructional meaning that the double object construction carries. In Present-day English, some examples of the `NP1rob NP3from NP2'formcan be found in COCA, though the syntactic structure is prescriptively ungrammatical.departmental bulletin pape

Asymmetry of kayak athletes' paddling power in canoe sprint competitions
This study aimed to ascertain the presence of asymmetry in kayakers' paddling power using paddling power values measured with a kayak ergometer. The subjects in this study were 8 college-enrolled kayak athletes. For all subjects, measurement of rowing power was carried out on both left and right sides, two trials per side. The average value of the two trials was used as a representative value and the average value and the standard deviation of the left and right paddling powers were calculated and found to be 344.1 ± 39.8 w for the right and 338.5 ± 42.5 w for the left. These results were conducive to the assumption of no difference between the sides. However, when individual data were plotted on a scatter diagram, cases of athletes with large differences between left and right sides (2 out of 8: 25%) were observed. For the athletes with the biggest left/right variation, differences of 84 to 90.5w were observed. This implies that paddling powers with relative values of 26 to 31 0x0.00000f65b62e9p-1022re less than those with larger paddling powers. Such asymmetry seems to affect the left and right balance when kayak is being paddled. By continuing the competition with such left / right power asymmetry over a long period, there is also a high possibility that such affects the form and function of the relevant parts of the body, and in some cases it may represent an impediment.departmental bulletin pape
