Also 2019 is scheduled to conduct a similar tour.departmental bulletin pape

Investigation on Effect of Site Amplification Effect and Source Spectra on Increment of JMA Seismic Intensity

    Get PDF
In this study, I investigated the influence of site amplification effect and source spectra on increment of seismic intensity for the purpose of obtaining basic information for accurately evaluating the increment of seismic intensity(dI). An evaluation formula for dI was obtained based on the relation between earthquake motion spectrum and amplification factor of earthquake motion index. Using the obtained evaluation formula, dI for crustal earthquake type, various magnitudes, site amplification effects was estimated. As a result of investigating the relation between the fundamental peak frequency of site amplification effects and dI, the frequency of maximum dI was shifted to the lower frequency range as magnitude increased.departmental bulletin pape

Photo Ionization of 2-(9,9'-spirobifluorene-2-yl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene by Using Two-Laser Irradiation

    Get PDF
Two-photon ionization of 2-(9,9'-spirobifluorene-2-yl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene ((Fl2)2) in the presence of cyclodextrin (CD) was investigated by using a 266-nm laser pulse or 266- and 532-nm laser pulses (266*532-nm). Measured photoionization efficiency of (Fl2)2/CD was compared with the previous results obtained by using a 266-nm laser pulse. The ionization yield (Υion) obtained with the 266*532-nm laser was 1.4-2.4 times higher than that with the 266-nm laser, suggesting that photoionization of (Fl2)2 proceeds through stepwise excitation by the 266- and 532-nm laser pulses. Moreover, the Υion of (Fl2)2/CD showed different features compared with those obtained with the 266-nm laser pulse and 266*532-nm laser pulses, respectively. It was suggested that the slope of the transient absorbance given as a function of laser intensity can be attributed to difference in the 2-stepwise ionization processes of (Fl2)2/β-CD and (Fl2)2/γ-CD, and the 3-stepwise processes of (Fl2)2/α-CD for irradiation of (Fl2)2 with the 266*532-nm laser. Consequently, we revealed the external light-stimulation of the molecular machine under UV-A irradiation combined with visible light.departmental bulletin pape

    Get PDF
This study examined effects and the maintenances of psychology education to enhance critical thinking ability and meta-cognition skills for freshmen. Freshmen had taken lesson in critical thinking and meta-cognition and did worksheets after receiving lectures about them in “Introduction to Psychology" class. Through questionnaires for students in three cohorts, no significant results between the implementation and control groups have been demonstrated in the follow-up studies had about one year and two years after the class had finished. The results showed that it was difficult to maintain the effectiveness of skills and abilities freshmen had learned in psychology education. Moreover it suggested that it is necessary to develop a four-year curriculum as well as first year experience, for enhancing and maintaining students' critical thinking and meta-cognition skills.departmental bulletin pape

    Get PDF
When institutional stakeholders contemplate the introduction of a new technology into the classroom, they often are concerned with the uses and functions of the tech and sometimes overlook a very basic aspect: students' access and level of comfort using the technology required. This study was conducted to assess the level of access students at a small private engineering university had to smartphones, a technology that stakeholders believe will be used to access and complete assignments on a new asynchronous learning site the university is rolling out in the upcoming academic year. While the results showed that nearly 10036626661351f students surveyed (N=225) did have access to the requisite tech, only 23.560f respondents (n=53) indicated that they were excited about using them for coursework. The reasons students gave for their willingness or hesitation are presented, and the implications of the introduction of the portal site are discussed in terms of English education and general motivation. Some suggestions are also given of how to most effectively address students' concerns.departmental bulletin pape

At the authors' university an educational sociology course was offered in the latter half of Heisei 30. In this course, problems such as school truancy, school refusal, and bullying were discussed, and students of this course showed a lot of interest in these topics. When the authors of this paper discussed these issues, they discovered that there is a great difference in how different countries respond to these issues. Using information taken from media sources and government web sites, this paper reports on the truancy situation in Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States while also comparing how the schools and governments of these three countries deal with truancy.departmental bulletin pape

Case Report on the Characteristics of the Cognitive Function of Expert Equestrians

    Get PDF
This study aims to examine whether the cognitive function of a proficient equestrian is superior to that of a male of the same age group. A 66-year-old male who has been an equestrian for 53 years since the age of 13 (hereinafter referred to as Male Y) participated in the research in which he was compared with a control group of twenty males in their 60s. Choice Reaction Time tests using the rules of rock-paper-scissors were used to assess their cognitive function. The instrument measured the time it took for participants to choose and press the appropriate button for the pictures displayed on the screen according to each condition of win, lose, and tie. The shorter the time it took for them to press the button, the better their cognitive function was. Five tests were conducted on each participant under each condition. As a result, compared to the mean value scored by the average male in their 60s, the performance of Male Y recorded shorter times under all three conditions. In equitation, an equestrian rides on a horse and aims to achieve the accuracy, dynamics, and beauty of movements. In order to deliver a complete performance together with a horse as one, equestrians are required to have cognitive, judgmental and executive abilities to recognize the condition of their horses and the course and act accordingly rather than physical strength. That is why their cognition function is surmised to have been maintained or improved in regular exercises and competitions.departmental bulletin pape

Preventive-Care Programs Targeting Local Elderly Individuals

    Get PDF
This study examined the effects of such programs on the physique, motor fitness, cognitive ability, and fall experience in the elderly. The participants were 49 elderly women (mean age 75.1 years; standard deviation 5.1), and they attended health classes or social educational activities hosted by their municipal governments, engaging in social activities at least once a week or once every alternate week. Those elderly individuals who participated in a program for a period of five years showed improved cognitive abilities. Additionally, physique and motor fitness remained largely stable and the number of falls decreased. The improvement in the bone quality values indicates that the risk of fracture from falls could decrease. In conclusion, continuous participation in preventive-care programs can prevent dementia and falls.departmental bulletin pape

Progress Report of Remote Island Activation Project through Rainwater Utilization in Akashima, Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture

    Get PDF
Akashima, Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture is a small secondary island with an area of 0.52m2. There is no water supply on this island, and there are no common freshwater sources, such as river water and groundwater, anymore. Therefore, the islanders live using rainwater stored in a rainwater storage tank for their water usage in daily life . A survey on the use of rainwater in Akashima in 2016 found that there were water shortages and water quality problems. In addition, it was found that the number of islanders on this island is about 15; therefore, there is also the problem of unmanned islanding. Based on these findings, a small-scale village water supply system, which uses rainwater as its source, was installed on the island in 2017. Additionally, in seeking to prevent unmanned islanding, we have devised and implemented an environmental education program for water, “Rainwater Life Experience," as well as initiated the promotion of Akashima through the Internet."departmental bulletin pape
