The differences in health condition and lifestyle of business types with high and low diabetes risks
It is imperative to determine which business type has a high risk of diabetes so as to devise a plan to prevent the disease. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in the lifestyle out of office hours of business types with higher and lower risks of diabetes. This was conducted by assessing the types by means of a medical examination, an interview, dental expenditure, and medication. The participants included 16,277 males (age range: 35–69 years) who had received a health checkup in2016 and had joined the Fukui branch of Japan Health Insurance Association. The business types were classified into 18 categories in accordance with the classification of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The degree of diabetes in each business type was determined by the score obtained by the number of people and weighting coefficient (×3, severe; ×2, medium; ×1, mild; and ×0, no symptom). The results revealed that those in a service sector and transport and postal activities had the highest risk of diabetes, while those in the manufacturing industry had the lowest risk of diabetes. Significant differences were found in the body weight, BMI, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, neutral lipid, HDL cholesterol, ALT, γ-GTP, blood glucose level, HbA1c, smoking, exercise, physical activity, and skipping breakfast. However, the effect sizes were small(η2= 0.01–0.02, V= 0.08–0.14). “Missing" A Short Movie as an Attempt to Visualize Regional Resources in Fukui
This paper is to show how the authors had an attempt to visualize regional resources in Fukui, and the production process of the short movie “Missing" with the "story" for the purpose of recording and disseminating regional resources in Fukui Prefecture. The authors dare to introduce a "story" into the expression of regional resources of Fukui, because they have totally lost by the bombing of World War II in 1945 and Fukui earthquake in 1948. The main methodology of this film expression could be summarized in the use of multilayered-time, by the story of backward and forward time between the past and the present. Aerial photography experiment by fixed wing and vertical take-off / landing type drone FUTVTOL-1
An aerial photography experiment by using newly developed drone FUTVTOL-1 was performed around Awara campus at both day and night time zones on March 8, 2019. FUTVTOL-1 is a fixed wing type drone with the vertical take-off and landing function. Therefore, FUTVTOL-1 can fly at high speed for long time moreover does not require any other devices for take-off and landing. The many images obtained by onboarded low cost Raspberry Pi Camera and flight record clearly show FUTVTOL-1 is useful for wide area observation with high ground resolution. We carried out correlation analysis between the image taken by FUTVTOL-1 and NDVI image by Sentinel-2, a pair of large satellites operated by ESA. The result shows the effective and continuous measurement less affected by weather can be possible by the combination FUTVTOL-1 data and satellite data. In addition, night time images show the possibility FUTVTOL-1 can be used for monitor outdoor artificial lighting.departmental bulletin pape
Effect of Axial Load on Structural Performance of Precast Reinforced Concrete Core Wall with Horizontal Tied Rebars
In the core wall system in high-rise buildings, precast core walls are effective for construction because they can be built more quickly than cast-in-place core walls. In this study, lateral loading tests were conducted on wall columns simulating the corner and the area near the corner of an L-shaped core wall with horizontal tied rebars. The specimen consisted of four square-section precast columns. The vertical joints between the precast columns were grouted with high-strength mortar. Each precast column had cotters at the vertical joint, and horizontal tied rebars were concentrated at the second and the mid height level of the first story. Based on the results of lateral loading tests, the effect of the axial load on the structural performance of precast wall column with horizontal tied rebars was clarified.departmental bulletin pape
Characteristics of performance development in world and Japanese top-level male long and triple jumpers.
This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of performance development in world and Japanese top-level male long and triple jumpers. Seasonal and personal best record (SB and PB) of world top-level (WL) and Japanese top-level (NL) male jumpers (WL long jumpers: n=16, PB=8.74±0.12m;NL long jumpers: n=14, PB=8.10±0.07m; WL triple jumpers: n=13, PB=17.91±0.14m; NL triple jumpers: n=13, PB=16.76±0.18m, respectively) were corrected. The main results were as follows: (1) SB developed from late teens to mid-twenties, after that, maintained in some years and slowly declined. (2) As for the age of PB, there were no significant difference between WL and NL jumpers. (3) WL long jumpers developed performance more than NL long jumpers from under 20 years old period to the age of PB (p<0.05). These results suggest that it is necessary for Japanese top-level long and triple jumpers to develop their performance after 20 years old.departmental bulletin pape
Reports of activities for supporting starry sky sightseeing projects by “Foods in Fukui"
In the Phoenix Project in Fukui, there have been various projects for activating starry sky sightseeing in Fukui prefecture where there are rich sightseeing locations for observing starry skies. Our activities aimed to support and to further activate the starry sky sightseeing projects from a view point of “Foods in Fukui". For this purpose, we have developed foods which produced by using “Foods in Fukui". First, we have developed “satoimo gnocchi" consisting of “Kamisyo Satoimo" that is one of the most famous products in ono city. We have further characterized textures of the satoimo gnocchi by using mechanical tests. The elastic modulus for the satoimo gnocchi was less than that for the conventional gnocchi. In addition, a preliminary organoleptic test suggested that the satoimo gnocchi is more “motimoti" than the conventional gnocchi. Next, we have developed “satoimo tapioca" that also contains “Kamisyo Satoimo". The measurements for elastic modulus and the cohesive force showed that these mechanical properties for the satoimo tapioca were significantly higher than those for the conventional tapioca, indicating the tapioca hydrogels prepared in this study have a different texture from the original tapioca.departmental bulletin pape
Investigations of Stone Walls Collapsed in Marugame Castle and Ozu Castle Due to Heavy Rain, and the Destroyed by Fire in Shuri Castle Report of the Field Study of the Damaged Situation in Castle
This report the field investigations of Marugame Castle and Ozu Castle in 2015 and 2019, as well as Shuri Castle in 2018. The Sanno-maru and Obi-kuruwa in Marugame Castle of the stone walls collapsed due to heavy rains in Western Japan in July 2018 and typhoon No.24 in September. The reason why the stone wall collapsed was that it was a topography where water was easy to gather, and a high stone wall was piled up on the Morido. The Morido at the back of the stone wall contains a weak Masado in the water. Building materials and traces remain in the damage of earthquakes and heavy rains, but in the case of a fire, it disappears. Marugame Castle and Shuri Castle make “Visible construction" through restoration a tourist resource. It is desirable to strengthen safety measures and maintenance management systems by utilizing the lessons learned from natural disasters and fires.departmental bulletin pape
Investigation on Robustness of Particle Swarm Optimization Method for Constrained Optimization Problems
A constrained optimization problem for minimizing an objective function under given constraints, especially a nonlinear optimization problem, appears frequently in a real problem. Recently, particle swarm optimization method has been developed for solving the optimization problems and several optimization algorithms in the particle swarm optimization method have been proposed for the constrained optimization problems. In this study, new algorithm is proposed for solving the constrained optimization problems, in which the Lagrangian function is introduced and the values for the Lagrange multipliers are set at 1.0 for active constraints and 0.0 for inactive constraints. In the minimization process, the term of constrains in the Lagrangian function is exclusively minimized in non-feasible region and the whole of the function is minimized in near feasible region. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by comparing the results for several constrained optimization problems obtained by the αPSO and αGA.departmental bulletin pape
Development of an Automatic Rainfall Classification Sampling Device
In recent years, the deterioration of rainwater quality owing to air pollution caused by yellow sand or PM2.5 has become a problem. Therefore, it is necessary to accumulate data on rainwater quality; for this, it is necessary to collect rainwater. However, it is difficult to collect rainwater. In this study, we developed an automatic rainwater sampling system to automatically collect rainwater. The precipitation category of rainwater collected by this device is 0.63 mm/bottle, and it can collect up to 6.3 mm of rain water. In addition, the collection time of each section is recorded on the SD card by the microcomputer.
