Generation of γ-Aminobutyric Acid in squash

    Get PDF
Squash is one of the plants in which glutamate decarboxylase (GAD:EC 4.1.1.15) activity is very strong. GAD is an enzyme that synthesizesγ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) from glutamic acid. In this research, squash GAD was quantified by GABA and the GAD activity was the strongest in the peel. Furthermore, more than 260 mg of GABA were synthesized in 100 g of squash peel under optimum conditions in which the pH and temperature were 6.2 and 60℃, respectively.departmental bulletin pape

Japanese Tertiary-level Students' Cognition of World Englishes

    Get PDF
Estimates vary widely as to the number of people who study English globally, from Kachru and Nelson's (2006)(1)estimate of 700 million, to Beare's (2019)(2)figure of over 1.5 billion. However, these statistics are somewhat misleading as English is not a single entity, but rather a multitude of different dialects of the language (e.g., American English, British English), more accurately described as World Englishes(WE).The current study investigated the cognition of WE among 473 Japanese university students, revealing that while a majority of the participants knew that different varieties of English existed (n=366; 77.4%), they could not describe in detail what those differences were(n=351; 74.2%). Among those who could name some differences, pronunciation was cited the most often(n=99; 81.1%), followed by a small number noting grammatical differences(n=2; 1.6%), and none suggesting syntax or pragmatic factors such as appropriateness as being different among varieties of WE. When asked their preference of English instructor, citizens of inner circle countries (e.g., the USA, UK, Australia, or Canada) were rated the highest (M=3.48), followed closely by Japanese English teachers (M=3.42). Theoretical rationale and pedagogical implications are discussed.departmental bulletin pape

The Samurai Residences given to the former Matsuoka Clansman in Fukui Castle Town A Study on the Samurai's Premises in the Matsuoka Clansman, part 4

    Get PDF
This paper considers the Samurai residences given to the former Matsuoka clansman in Fukui Castle Town. In upper Samurai's town of the near Fukui castle Honmaru, the high rank of the Bangai clansman person in the Matsuoka age was distributed. The Shin-yashiki 1Ku was populated with migrants from the center of Matsuoka castle town. The Samurai residences under Fukui castle town were narrower than the Matsuoka period. The Samurai residence given to the Bangai clansman person was based on the area of the upper Samurai of the Fukui clan. The Samurai residence given to the Bangumi clansman person was based on the area of the intermediate Samurai of the Fukui clan.departmental bulletin pape

Examination of Space Formation of Rokuroshi Plateau for Starry Sky Tourism (Activity Report of Tourism-Culture Research axis in "Fukui PHOENIX Project")

    Get PDF
This report discusses the nature of the space in Rokuroshi plateau, which is necessary for practicing the formation of space in Rokuroshi plateau. Rokuroshi Plateau is a space that holds the natural environment as a plateau. In order to use this space, it is necessary to create a way of facing nature. In addition, because this space is confronted with the rage of nature, it is necessary to take steps to protect it from the rage. In this report, the grounds for using hammocks as a method of using the space of Rokuroshi Plateau are summarized.departmental bulletin pape

ROZAN-Park in Takefu and Landscape-architect Dr. Seiroku Honda A Study on History of Modern-Park in Fukui Prefecture

    Get PDF
Japanese Modern-Park(or Public Garden)was an important element of Urban-equipment in Modernization-process. Dr. Seiroku Honda(1866~1952)wasa famous landscape-architect and a professor in Tokyo-University before World WarII. In Fukui Prefecture, Honda's a only work is “ROZAN-Park" in Takefu(Echizen-city). The name ROZAN is one of Murakuni Hill(238.9m)on Hinogawa river. In this paper, we tried to make clear Honda's modern design-concept and drawing of the Park of important infrastructure in Takefu area.departmental bulletin pape

Structural Performance of Precast Reinforced Concrete Core Wall with Horizontal Tied Rebars under Action of Low Axial Load

    Get PDF
Precast core walls are effective for construction in the core wall system in high-rise buildings, because they can be built more quickly than cast-in-place core walls. In this study, a lateral loading test was conducted on a wall column simulating the corner and the area near the corner of an L-shaped core wall with small shear span ratio. The wall column was divided into precast columns, and horizontal tied rebars were concentrated at the second floor level and the mid height level of the first story. Based on the results of lateral loading tests, the structural performance of the wall column with a small quantity of horizontal tied rebars and small shear span ratio under the action of low axial load was clarified.departmental bulletin pape

Application of Particle Swarm Optimization Method with Minimization of Lagrangian Function to Constrained Discrete Optimization Problems

    Get PDF
The author illustrates the particle swarm method with minimization of Lagrangian function is an effective method for the constrained optimization problems considering continuous design variables. In the practical optimization problems, the optimum design problems can often be formulated as the discrete optimization problems. In this study, the method is extended to the constrained discrete optimization problems. In the optimization process, the discrete variables are dealt with as continuous variables which indicates the position in the sets of discrete variables. The effectiveness and reliability are illustrated by applying it to the discrete mathematical problems, traveling salesman problem and mixed discrete-continuous design problem of plate girder bridge system.departmental bulletin pape

Maternal acceptability of radiation exposure to children - Relationship with maternal knowledge about radiation exposure influence on children -

    Get PDF
The maternal acceptability of radiation exposure to her children was examined and was compared with her knowledge about radiation exposure influence on children to prevent over-care to children. It is thought to be important to prevent excessive confusion or over-care to children due to lack of mother's knowledge and understanding about radiation in the case of nuclear accidents. A questionnaire survey was conducted and the results were tested by Wilcoxon signed rank test. It was found that the degree of knowledge increased the acceptability of the exposure. It leads to the conclusion that providing appropriate information to mothers on radiation exposure to children could improve their self-efficacy regarding care for their children and be effective in preventing over-care.departmental bulletin pape

Effects of Wearing a Compression Undershirt during a Deep Breath on the Autonomic Nervous System

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects of wearing a compression undershirt during a deep breath on the autonomic nervous system. Ten male students at Fukui University of Technology volunteered to be subjects in this study. The fatigue stress measuring system (the Fatigue Science Laboratory, VM302)was used to determine the reaction of the autonomic nervous system. The control experiment was done by determining the effect of wearing a compression undershirt on autonomic nervous system at rest. The subjects wore the compression undershirt and took a deep breath as the actual experiment. As results of this study, it was found that the parasympathetic nerve is tense by taking a deep breath although wearing a compression undershirt stimulates the sympathetic nerve. It may be thought that the deep breathing stimulates the parasympathetic nerve regardless of the clothes worn.departmental bulletin pape

Characteristics of the soccer instep kicking motion in an inexperienced person

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the soccer instep kicking motion of an inexperienced person and compare them to those of a skilled player. The results of this study indicated that the inexperienced person could not effectively employ the whip-like movement of the leg needed to increase the angular velocity during knee extension of the swing leg. It was also noted that the inexperienced person kept the ankle joint of the swing leg in dorsiflexion during the kicking motion compared to the skilled players. In addition, the inexperienced person showed a relatively small lateral tilt angle of the support leg, indicating that the kicking motion was performed with the body in an almost upright position.departmental bulletin pape
