Advanced magnetic separation of paramagnetic materials using fluid control
The volume of contaminated soil induced by the Fukushima accident can be reduced using selection tube with high efficiency. We focused on the target substance in the soil having paramagnetism. We proposed the novel separation method, which is applying a magnetic field to selection tube, aiming for more precise and easier separation than High Gradient Magnetic Separation(HGMS). We showed the effectiveness of Open Gradient Magnetic Separation (OGMS) under the selection tube with using colored glass imitated target substance. The experimental results were found to shows good agreements with the calculated results.departmental bulletin pape
Differences in Japanese College Students' Academic- and L2-Motivation
Japan continues to expand its federally funded English initiatives, with English now a compulsory subject starting from the 4thgradeandcontinuing through to senior high school. While motivation for learning English has been heavily researched, little has been done to understand the underlying academic motivation among the population. As understanding the general landscape would allow for new insights into English-specific research, this study investigated first-year undergraduate students by applying the Academic Motivation Scale to an entire incoming freshman class (N=606).It was found that intrinsic motivation matrices were slightly positive overall(M=5.07 on a 7-point Likert scale), which contrasts with precursor research suggesting that students at this university were predominantly extrinsically motivated towards the study of English (Lee, 2017)(1). Slight but significant differences were detected, depending on the participants' academic major, gender, and residential status (i.e., international or domestic).departmental bulletin pape
Water Environment and Fish Fauna of Hino River
In 1992, red tides occurred in Hirono Dam reservoir, which locates upstream of Hino River, and then its water quality was presumed to affect the fishing of sweetfish(Plecoglossus altivelis)in the river. In this study, the water environment of Hirono Dam reservoir and Hino River was investigated for the last quarter century. It was found that the water quality has been slightly improved. Also, the fish fauna and the number of sweetfish caught in the river were examined. A limited kind of fish was found based on DNA analysis. The weight of sweetfish caught yearly has been declined, and social factors, such as population decrease, appear to influence the decline significantly.departmental bulletin pape
Report of Action for Enhances the Improving of the Bicycle Use Environmental in Sabae city (Case of Collaboration to Chamber of Commerce in Sabae)
In this paper, I report on the “Action for enhances the improving of the bicycle use environmental" by Sabae Chamber of Commerce and Fukui University of Technology Yoshimura Laboratory in Sabae City until fiscal year 2019.We are aiming to find potential of cyclists-friendly city in Sabae city. We held a workshop, for the examination and extraction of cycling routes that connect the satoyama area and the downtown area. Through workshop, to found the development of an environment where bicycles can coexist with pedestrians, public transportation, and vehicles, and the creation of attractive urban spaces from the perspective of creating attractive urban spaces.departmental bulletin pape
Device of communication to deepen learning
In today's learning environment, there is a need for proactive and deep learning. It needs to be a place where certain skills and knowledge can be acquired, and thinking, judgement, and expression skills can be cultivated. This is necessary to cultivate the learners of today to not only be critical thinkers, but to also be individuals who are able to express their own thoughts. In university classes, it is necessary to devise ways for the students to foster these type of communication skills. This paper is a discussion of how the three authors encourage and promote the development of communication skills in their classroom.departmental bulletin pape
A Qualitative Analysis of Three Textual Enhancement Techniques
The concept of noticing is a key tenet of second language acquisition (SLA).Teachers have long been using every method available to get their students to pay attention, in the hopes of increasing the likelihood that their lessons will `stick', a term known as intake in SLA. The current study investigated the efficacy of three textual enhancement(TE) techniques at drawing N=168 Japanese university students' awareness to the desired language feature, the first step towards noticing. Results indicated that contrary to predictions, participants were only moderately able to identify the target of instruction (47.6%; 74.4%;58.3%, respectively). These results carry significant implications for not only language teachers, but for SLA researchers who have thus far been baffled as to why TE research has often yielded conflicting results.departmental bulletin pape
Comprehensive Community Sports Club, and, Cooperation Activities between NPO Sabae Sports Club and Department of Sports and Health Sciences
NPO Sabae Sports Club has concluded an agreement with Department of Sports and Health Sciences of Fukui University of Technology that students up to 15 people are accepted respectively on the curriculum "Area Activation Practice" and "Enterprise Internship". Sabae Sports Club was established as a first Comprehensive Community Sports Club in Fukui Prefecture in September, 2000. In this paper, Comprehensive Community Sports Club is explained, and its trend in Fukui Prefecture is explained. Next, the current state of Sabae Sports Club is introduced, and the cooperation activities between Sabae Sports Club and Department of Sports and Health Sciences are introduced.departmental bulletin pape
Effect on thermal efficiency of heat storage material on the surface of Stirling engine displacer pistons
In Stirling engines, in order to improve thermal efficiency, it is necessary to increase the amount of heat transfer through regenerators. Previous research has found that engine speed reduction improves thermal efficiency. However, it was theorized that the regenerator heat storage capacity is insufficient because there are limitations to the improvement in thermal efficiency that can be achieved by engine speed reduction. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to improve the thermal efficiency and to confirm engine speed change when the thermal efficiency is maximized through increased regenerator heat storage capacity in Stirling engines. To this end, engine performance testing was performed using an experimental Stirling engine and adding heat storage material to the regenerator. The results showed no confirmed engine speed change, but did confirm improved thermal efficiency. Furthermore, it was shown that the thermal conductivity of the heat storage material used in the regenerator significantly affects thermal efficiency.departmental bulletin pape
Topo-logical Study of “Oku" on the Place of Deathbed in the classical literature (1), in case of the “Sanuki no Suke Nikki vol.I"
The purpose of this study is to examine the some problems about the theory of architecture, according to the phenomena of dwelling in the Japanese classical literature. In this article, “Sanuki no Suke Nikki(diary) vol.I" as a text, written by the court lady Fujiwara no Nagako soon after the death of the Emperor Horikawa in 1107, we try to explore the mentality of the Dwelling from the point of view of “Oku" mentality. “Oku" is usually used to mean the back or inside, as depth in Space, but this word includes also the concept of Time from ancient times. Therefore, four elements---Space, Time, Body and Mind---are synthesized in this paper. Nagako described in small details to be present and so close at the death of an emperor in the palace. From these descriptions, we would like to shed light on the adaptability of Space in the Japanese dwelling by “Oku".departmental bulletin pape
Architect Tadao Igarashi and theory of Architecture “SHINKABE" (3) - A Study on the primary thought “Composition of Plane in Architecture" -
This paper clarifies the early stages of the trend of the architectural theory “SHINKABE" by a famous professor-architect Tadao Igarashi(1915~1987)in Hokuriku area. For this reason, we tried to make clear Igarashi's paperes “On the Composition of Plane or Surface in Architecture"(1954)and “On the Tension as affected by Planes in an Architecture"(1955). Firstly, Igarashi pays attention to the “plane" that is a composition-element in order to realize a unified space. Then, he found out that it was an important condition to grasp the number of planes. Finally, Igarashi has arrived the meaning of “tension" as a plane character that can be acquired by these orderly interpretations.departmental bulletin pape
