Effects of vitaminB12 on synthesis of D-serine and myelin proteins in NSC-34 motor neuron-like cells
application/pdfIt has been well documented that vitamin B12 (VB12 , cobalamin)-deficiency leads to megaloblastic anemia accompanied by myelopathy which is associated with loss of myelin in the spinal cord and the peripheral nerves. To gain insights into roles of VB12 in the prevention of myelopathy, we investigated effects of VB12 on morphological changes and expression patterns of myelin proteins in motor neuron-like NSC-34 cells. Here we reveal that VB12 not only promotes the rate of neurite outgrowth but also prolongs the viability of differentiated NSC-34 cells with myelinated axons. By immunocytochemistry and western blot analyses, we establish that expression of mature peripheral axonal marker protein NF-H is significantly increased in VB12 -treated NSC-34 cells. Our studies also uncover that VB12 -treatment lowers the level of D-serine production in NSC-34 cells challenged by the sustained depolarization as results of balancing activities of serine racemase and D-amino acid oxidase. These observations suggest novel roles of VB12 in maintenance and repair of the damaged motor neuron axons through the regulation of myelin protein synthesis and D-serine production.departmental bulletin pape
同義語の獲得と保持 : AI と教師のハイブリッド指導に対するA2 学習者の認識
application/pdfThis study investigated the effects of AI-assisted lexical seeding on receptive synonym knowledge among A2-level EFL learners. Fourteen Japanese university students completed pre- and post-tests measuring vocabulary knowledge and confidence after exposure to either teacher-created stories (Set 1) or hybrid AI-teacher co-authored stories (Set 2). Set 2 contained significantly higher lexical density (212 vocabulary occurrences versus 71). Results showed Set 2 produced superior gains in both actual vocabulary knowledge (+0.4958 vs. +0.1986) and learner confidence (+0.4156 vs. +0.0304). Despite measurable differences, student perceptions revealed no preference between sets, with both receiving positive evaluations. These findings suggest AI-enhanced materials can significantly improve vocabulary acquisition without compromising learner satisfaction.departmental bulletin pape
The Active Learning in Tourism Design: Focusing on Project-Based Learning (PBL) in Higher Education
application/pdfThis paper focuses on Project-Based Learning (PBL), a type of active learning, based on its effectiveness. It further clarifies the concept the tourism design and analyzes examples of practical tourism projects undertaken by students in the field of tourism design in higher education to examine the educational effects and practical potential of PBL. In particular, this study examines student projects conducted through Independent Studies and Tourism Research Practicum, detailing the content of each activity and class, as well as the students' learning experiences. This analysis provides a concrete perspective on how PBL can facilitate student learning and deepen their understanding of tourism design.departmental bulletin pape
