No full textThe texts in this book are based on a selection of the paper presentations held during the first instance of Centre for Scandinavian Studies – Lund Univsersity (CSS) biannual international conference in the field of Scandinavian Studies.
The conference took place in Lund, at the joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology of Lund University between June 14-17, 2017.
The theme was “Rethinking Scandinavia” and the central topics of presentations and discussions were:

Anthony Giddens och samhällsvetenskapen
No full textNär Thomas Brante skriver den lilla skriften Anthony Giddens och samhällsvetenskapen är Giddens ett självklart namn i en sociologisk kanon. Refererade man inte till Giddens fanns en risk att man inte betraktades som en ”riktig” sociolog. Att kritisera Giddens var närmast att kritisera ämnet.
Enligt Giddens hade sociologin hamnat i en olycklig och teoretiskt improduktiv åtskillnad mellan subjektivism/aktör och objektivism/struktur, eller den mellan individ och kollektiv som Johan Asplund diskuterar i Människan som samhällsvarelse (2022). Hans eget teoretiska bidrag, struktureringsteorin, försöker lösa dikotomin mellan aktör och struktur genom att hävda att förhållandet måste betraktas som en strukturdualitet där strukturer är både medel för och resultatet av aktörers handlingar.
Brante är positivt inställd till viljan att överskrida åtskillnaden mellan aktör och struktur men tycker att kritiken mot t.ex. strukturalister är missriktad. Den går för långt i sina antaganden om att strukturalister inte skulle kunna tänka sig att det är levande människor som både producerar och reproducerar strukturer. Den bortser också från att en undersökning av ett socialt fenomen kan isolera den ena eller andra aspekten av fenomenet utan vara antingen subjektivistisk eller objektivistisk.
Brantes läsning av Giddens gjorde honom helt enkelt förbannad på Giddens argumentation – där syftet ofta handlar om att framhäva den egna teorin – även om han respekterade och höll med om varningarna mot tendenser till överdrifter åt antingen individualistiskt eller kollektivistiskt håll

No full textDan Egonsson, Björn Petersson, and Toni Rønnow-Rasmussen have been instrumental in shaping the Swedish philosophical community over the last thirty years, particularly in the field of ethics. Through their research, teaching, and guidance of the next generation of philosophers, they have made invaluable contributions to the Department of Philosophy at Lund University. This festschrift, which celebrates their upcoming 67th birthdays and their retirement from active teaching, includes thirty-two papers from as many philosophers, all of whom have been influenced by the work of Egonsson, Petersson, and Rønnow-Rasmussen. The papers touch on themes from practical philosophy that are reflected in the title of the festschrift: "Value, Morality & Social Reality." Topics covered include harm, aesthetics, final value, human dignity, social ontology, instrumental value, moral responsibility, and more. We are grateful to the contributors and reviewers who have helped us put this festschrift together, and we hope that it will serve as a fitting tribute to the important work of these three important philosophers
