Ciencia social y educación para la democracia
No full textThis essay presents the impulse that the social science can offer to a democratic ethos in the educational field. In this sense, it exposes some ethical and democratic implications in works of relevant social thinkers (Max Weber, Peter Berger, Jürgen Habermas, Immanuel Wallerstein and Richard Rorty). Second, the essay outlines a critical concept of education for the democracy. Finally, it presents a set of contributions of the social science to this type of education.Este ensayo presenta el impulso que la ciencia social puede ofrecer a un ethos democrático en el campo educativo. Para ello, primero se exponen algunas implicaciones ético-democráticas en planteamientos de relevantes pensadores sociales (Max Weber, Peter Berger, Jürgen Habermas, Immanuel Wallerstein y Richard Rorty). Seguidamente, se esboza un concepto crítico de educación para la democracia y, finalmente, se presentan una serie de aportes de la ciencia social a este tipo de educación

No full textThe effects of a financial market on growth are studied. By using a model of stochastic endogenous growth with two types of financial markets (efficient and inefficient) the macroeconomic equilibrium is characterized and shows that negative impacts on growth appear when financial market is inefficient. Therefore regulation on financial market can be applied, by a capital revenue tax, in order to restore macroeconomic equilibrium.Mediante un modelo de crecimiento endógeno estocástico, con agentes heterogéneos, tecnología dada y de economía cerrada, se identifican los efectos que tiene el sistema financiero sobre la tasa de crecimiento de una economía. En principio, se estudia el impacto de un sistema financiero eficiente, para posteriormente analizar un de tipo ineficiente. Se encuentra que la ineficiencia financiera genera impactos negativos en el crecimiento, y para
corregirlos se introduce la regulación financiera vía un impuesto al rendimiento del capital.
Asimismo se determinan las condiciones necesarias para crecer bajo este escenario

Latin America is constituted as a theoretical problem as questions arise around its way of being in a world ruled by the logics of Capital, that in its unfolding becomes Capitalism. It is in the vortex of that social tornado that the region becomes intelligible. The aim of this article is to show a possible path in that direction, one that contemplates the regional whole and that allows, at the same time, to assume the differences and diversities that preveil in its interior.América Latina no constituye un objeto dado, como supone el positivismo-empirista. Tampoco es pura desarticulación, como concluye el planteamiento posmoderno. Get PDFThis is paper recovers the history of the word “avatar” from its origin in ancient India to its current use in the context of the world wide web. From this path, the essay will analyze the way in which each civilization borrowing the word retains some of its meanings while adapts it to express new ideas depending on the realities and necessities of the receiving culture. The latest cultural product using this word, “avatar”, is the homonymous motion picture from the american filmmaker, James Cameron. This paper offers an interpretation of this film as a palimpsest, in order to reveal the way in which an ancient “foreign” word manages to generate new meanings in a mass media product, while the audience works to re-signify these materials as means to integrate them into its own universe.En este artículo se recupera la historia de la palabra “avatar” desde su origen milenario en la antigua India hasta su uso actual en el ámbito de internet. Desde este eje se analiza cómo las civilizaciones sucesivas que van retomando una palabra retienen algunos de sus sentidos al tiempo que la amoldan a un nuevo uso más acorde con las realidades y necesidades de la cultura receptora. La manifestación cultural más reciente que hace uso de la palabra “avatar” es la película homónima del director estadounidense James Cameron. En este ensayo se propone una interpretación del filme a manera de palimpsesto para revelar cómo una antigua palabra “extranjera” logra despertar nuevas posibilidades de sentido en un producto de consumo masivo, y como el público, a su vez, resignifica estos materiales para insertarlos en su propio universo. 
Crisis y ciclos económicos de México de 1896 al 2010:: un análisis espectral
No full textIn this paper we analyze the behavior of the cycles of growth of the Mexican economy for the period 1896-2010. This analysis we place in the context of modern theoretical discussion of the cycle, based on the work of the New Classical Economics (NEC), the Real-Business-Cycle, the New Keynesian Economics (NEK), and the contributions of Keynes and Tobin. We identified the presence of 115 cycles in the period and we apply the spectral analysis to determine the existence of long cycles with shorter frequencies, for which we use the realGDP as the cycle indicator. JEL Classification: E31 price level, inflation and deflation. E32 Business fluctuations and cycles.En este artículo analizamos el comportamiento de los ciclos de crecimiento de la economía mexicana para el periodo 1896-2010. Este análisis lo situamos en el marco de la discusión teórica moderna del ciclo, basada en los trabajos de la nueva escuela clásica (NEC), el ciclo real, la nueva escuela keynesiana (NEK), y las aportaciones de Toban y Keynes. Identificamos la presencia de 115 ciclos en el periodo y aplicamos el análisis espectral para determinar la existencia de ciclos con periodicidades largas y frecuencias cortas, para lo cual utilizamos el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) real como el indicador del ciclo.
