A study of the zoomorphic representations in the symbology of the Contradas of Siena. A zooarchaeological approach

    No full text
Among the Contradas that still take part in the Palio of Siena today, 15 out of 17 have kept the same animal in their symbology for centuries. In many cases, however, the faunistic subject has undergone significant variations over time, consisting of small morphological and/or chromatic changes, or even producing the representation of different taxa. Scholars and enthusiasts of the Palio have advanced numerous hypotheses, sometimes contrasting and difficult to verify, to explain the reasons for these changes. We present a case study where the results of a systematic review of the iconographic and written documentation preserved in the historical archives of the City and the Museums of the Contradas have been compared with the data present in the zooarchaeological literature. Finally, we propose a hypothesis regarding to the identification at specific level of the zoomorphic figure represented in the oldest document found to date in which the symbolism of the Contrada della Pantera is represented by a felid.Among the Contradas that still take part in the Palio of Siena today, 15 out of 17 have kept the same animal in their symbology for centuries. New approaches on the studies of Neanderthal dwelling space use: bone refits at units A9 and A5-A6 of Fumane Cave (Verona, Italy)

    No full text
This contribution forms part of a larger project entitled “Attesting Neanderthal Dwelling Space Use (ANDSU): effects of human occupations in the Middle Palaeolithic record of Fumane cave”. It focuses on the spatial organization of Neanderthal dwelling units in Fumane cave (units A9, A5-A6), using a mixed methodology approach. The project aims to gain insights into assemblage formation processes, post-depositional dynamics, settlement patterns, and the integrity of stratigraphic units. Bone refits, spatial and exploratory statistical analysis, and 3D reconstructions are used to achieve these goals. Refitting studies provide valuable data, while 3D scan acquisition of refitted bones enables the development of computerized analytical methods. These methods can make refit semi-automatic or automatic. The project shows the importance of integrating innovative methods from other disciplines to understand the diversity of occupational patterns in Middle Palaeolithic records. This contribution forms part of a larger project entitled “Attesting Neanderthal Dwelling Space Use (ANDSU): effects of human occupations in the Middle Palaeolithic record of Fumane cave”.

    No full text
This article proposes comparative research between the countercultural contexts that developed in Madrid and Buenos Aires in the post-dictatorial moments that both societies went through between the seventies and the nineties. This analysis reveals how youth cultures in Buenos Aires and Madrid evolved in constant dialogue with institutions and urban imaginaries, configuringnew meanings of modernity and cultural creation. Both of these cases show similar tensions between the creative impulse of young people, who were key agents in the transitional contexts, and the attempts at institutionalisation that sought to control and order their practices and the spaces they inhabited. The cultural circulation among these cities emphasises the existence of transnational exchanges, which not only disseminated images but also allowed for the participation and production of transgressive initiatives in local contexts.

    No full text
El Pardo Woodland, located on the outskirts of Madrid, is one of the oldest royal hunting grounds of the Spanish monarchy. Its landscape was highlighted by Francisco Giner de los Ríos in the last third of the 19th century. Thanks to this, it became one of the favourite places for the expansion of the people of Madrid. As a result, in the 1930s, two proposals were presented to the managers of the royal site for the creation of complete sports facilities that a capital like Madrid needed. This article presents the Ciudad-Playa project by Fernando García Mercadal and provides an in-depth analysis of the evolution of the first sports complex in the capital, the Playa de Madrid. This complex is studied from its initial conception in April 1931 by José Entrecanales and Fernando Arzadún, the changes introduced by Manuel Muñoz Monasterio, and the evolution of the complex up to the present day.

Knowledge and Power in the Age of AI: From the Rhizome to Techno-Feudalism

    No full text
In the era of artificial intelligence, knowledge is being transformed by informational fragmentation and the concentration of digital power. This article examines how rhizomatic logic has led to a decentralized ecosystem lacking hierarchical structures, where information overload hinders the construction of meaning. Additionally, neo-Baroque aesthetics intensify the saturation of stimuli, while techno-feudalism turns data into a resource exploited by major digital platforms. In response, General Systems Theory is proposed as a framework to balance openness and regulation, offering strategies to preserve intellectual autonomy in an environment dominated by private interests.

The personality and work of Alda Merini (1931-2009) are still very little known outside the confines of Italy.
