Investigation of industrial use cases of a low-cost 3D camera
This bachelor thesis investigates the industrial applicability of the cost-efficient 3D camera Visionary-T Mini by SICK AG. The central question is whether this camera, despite certain technical limitations, can serve as a viable alternative to more expensive sensor systems. In addition to a theoretical introduction to relevant 3D camera technologies, with a specific focus on Time-of-Flight technology, a practical use case (automated quality inspection of blister packs for tablets) was implemented. Various image processing tools were used to detect typical defects such as empty cavities, broken tablets, and incorrect positioning. Furthermore, an experimental validation of the measurement accuracy specified by the manufacturer was conducted under realistic conditions. The measurements showed that the camera delivers highly precise results for many materials (e.g. paper, wood), but exhibits significant deviations on transparent or highly reflective surfaces. The results demonstrate that the Visionary-T Mini can be an effective tool for simple to moderately complex industrial applications. However, its specific strengths and weaknesses must be considered.angefertigt von Benjamin FettyAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
Refurbishment solutions for thermal insulation composite systems - system structure and processing
The demand for refurbishment measures for existing buildings has increased significantly in recent years. Thermal insulation composite systems in particular, have become outdated and require appropriate refurbishment. Facades not only determine the visual appearance, but above all, must meet the requirements of functionality. This scholarly work deals specifically with these issues. At the beginning of the work, the reader receives basic information on the façade systems described, followed by the transition to refurbishment - reasons, possible damages and measures are explained. A variety of possible systems are examined in detail and ultimately compared. These systems include both, conventional and relatively unknown options. The fastening technology, system structures and processing are discussed. Building physics, economic and ecological criteria are also taken into account. The latter is primarily due to the increased sustainability aspect in terms of disposal. In addition to the manufacturers of the systems, an interview was also conducted with a contractor and an construction expert, in order to gain a holistic insight from different perspectives.vorgelegt von: Clarissa LipnikAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

The four-day workweek : exploring challenges and opportunities for companies and employees in Austria and Germany
This master's thesis analyses the four-day workweek as a new working time model in Austrian and German companies. The aim of the thesis is to identify the main challenges in the implementation process, assess the impact on employee productivity and satisfaction and evaluate the overall impact on employee well-being. The research is based on a comprehensive literature review in combination with a qualitative methodology. Case studies from different countries and companies were analysed to illustrate how the four-day workweek has been implemented in different contexts. In addition, other working time models were analysed and explained in more detail to illustrate differentiation. Legal considerations also play a decisive role in the introduction of new working time models and were taken into account in this thesis. Interviews were also conducted with companies from a variety of industries in Austria and Germany. These interviews provided detailed insights into the specific models of the four-day workweek. The results show that the four-day workweek has a positive effect on the well-being and job satisfaction of employees. Although the results on productivity varied, there was no evidence of negative effects. Based on the literature and the insights gained from the interviews, this paper presents a practical framework for the introduction of a four-day workweek. However, it is important to note that the success of such a model depends on industry-specific factors and must be adapted accordingly.Agnes Maria RückartMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
Liquidity management under basel III : challenges and strategies in times of economic uncertainty
This master’s thesis examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the liquidity management of Austrian banks within the framework of Basel III, as well as the influencing factors on the regulatory liquidity ratios LCR and NSFR. Additionally, structural differences between decentralized banking groups and stand-alone institutions were analyzed, particularly regarding the use of liquidity networks. Following an extensive literature review on the regulatory foundations (CRR, CRD, ILAAP) and internal bank control processes, a quantitative preliminary analysis of relevant variables was conducted using measures of dispersion and correlation. This analysis was supplemented by nine semi-structured expert interviews with representatives from various banking sectors (Raiffeisen, savings banks, cooperative banks, state mortgage banks, and joint-stock banks). The qualitative findings were subsequently validated through panel data regression models. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic was primarily perceived as an operational stress test. While external measures such as the ECB’s TLTRO-III program were used strategically, the stability of liquidity ratios was mainly based on pre-existing internal control instruments. Macroeconomic factors such as inflation, interest rates, and the general economic climate had significant effects, particularly on the short-term LCR, whereas the NSFR was more strongly influenced by long-term, bank-specific structural characteristics. The regression models confirmed a negative relationship between balance sheet growth, equity ratio, and LCR development. In terms of organizational differences, the interviews highlight that banking groups benefit from centralized liquidity mechanisms and internal risk sharing, while stand-alone banks act more flexibly but are more exposed to external risks. The combination of literature review, qualitative interviews, and econometric regression allows for a multi-layered analysis of current challenges in liquidity management and demonstrates that regulatory requirements, institutional structure, and external shocks interact in a complex dynamic. These insights have important implications for the further development of liquidity control strategies in the tension field between stability, efficiency, and resilience.eingereicht von: Dina SchmidtAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
Speech therapy management in stroke units in Austria : survey of the current status and future:development opportunities as part of a mixed-methods approach
Introduction: One person in Austria suffers a stroke every 27 minutes (Austrian Stroke Society, 2017). Speech therapy interventions have been shown to help prevent or reduce the late effects of a stroke (Robey, 1994) (Chiaramonte & Vecchio, 2021). Guidelines for speech therapy care in the stroke unit exist (Mader & Schwenke, 2020). At the same time, speech therapy is advertised as a shortage occupation in Austria. This raises the question of whether and to what extent the current evidence base can be met and, if not, what the obstacles are. Method: To answer the research questions, an online questionnaire with quantitative and qualitative questions was created and sent to all stroke units throughout Austria. Speech therapists, doctors and people in management positions completed the questionnaire. The data of 31 people were included in the survey. The results of the questionnaire were categorised professionally with the help of an expert interview with a person with the title of primary care physician in a managerial role in a stroke unit. Results: In summary, it can be said that 39% of the AWMF guidelines cannot be implemented and 93.75%of speech therapists state that there is potential for optimisation. 52.11% of respondents cited staff shortages as an obstacle to the inadequate implementation of the guidelines. Other obstacles mentioned were insufficient technological equipment (19.72%), lack of premises (16.90%), lack of weekend and night shifts (8.45%) and lack of multidisciplinary collaboration(2.82%).Conclusions: It is clear that speech therapy care in stroke units in Austria is not fully in line with guidelines. The most frequently cited obstacle is the lack of staff. Speech therapy is characterised as a shortage profession, which makes it difficult to increase staffing levels (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Wirtschaft, 2024). Technical aids that enable independent practice could be a possible solution for increasing the frequency of therapy, provided that vigilance allows this. This finding and the analysis of necessary change measures provide important results in this area. The present study can form an important foundation for further research. Above all, it provides a database for future negotiations and development opportunities in speech therapy management on stroke units.Laura PeslAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
Concept for the Optimization and Digitalization:of Patient Registration and Informed Consent Processes:in an Austrian CT/MR Institute
This bachelor thesis develops a concept for the digitalization and optimization of patient registration and informed consent processes in an Austrian CT MR institute. Based on a detailed analysis of the existing paper-based process, weaknesses such as media discontinuities, high time consumption, unstructured document management, and organizational risks are identified. Building on this, a digital target process is designed that utilizes existing software solutions and describes concrete optimization potentials. The focus is on structured digital document storage, barcode-supported document allocation, the use of signature pads, and the optional introduction of a digital patient intake form. Methodologically, the thesis follows a mixed-methods approach, combining process modeling, expert interviews, patient surveys, and key performance indicator (KPI) analysis. The results show that existing software functionalities are largely underutilized. For efficient implementation in daily practice, not only technical adjustments but also targeted process modifications are necessary. Additionally, the analysis highlights the organizational framework conditions at the Voitsberg site that must be considered to ensure a resource-efficient yet familiar workflow for the staff. Finally, fully digital solutions that could enable a paperless process are discussed. Overall, the thesis provides practical recommendations for the digitalization of radiological workflows and makes a specific contribution to the CT MR institute in Voitsberg.
Emotional intelligence as a key performance factor for female managers : a comparison of the genders
This Master's thesis examines the importance of emotional intelligence as a performance factor in leadership, focusing particularly on female leaders compared to male leaders. It begins with the question of how emotional intelligence influences employee satisfaction and well-being, and whether there are gender-specific differences in the perception of leadership. The theoretical framework is based on the models of Mayer & Salovey, Goleman and Bar-On, which define the various dimensions of EI and emphasise their importance in leadership. A quantitative cross-sectional design was chosen to address the research questions. Data were collected via an online survey of 203 employees. Validated instruments were used, including the Wong-Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, as well as scales measuring job satisfaction and well-being. Surprisingly, the emotional intelligence of managers as perceived by employees proved to be a strong predictor of job satisfaction. No gender-specific differences were found. However, exploratory analyses suggest that younger employees such as Generation Z find the emotional competence of their managers particularly relevant. The study concludes that it is not the gender of the manager that is decisive for employee satisfaction, but rather their perceived emotional intelligence. The study therefore contributes to the scientific discourse on emotional intelligence, offering practical implications for human resources and management development.Anneli SteinhartMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
Unlocking the future: a comparative study of web authentication methods
Web authentication methods play a fundamental role in ensuring the security and usability of digital systems in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape. This study systematically evaluated 18 authentication methods using six key criteria: Security, Usability, Accessibility, Affordability, Privacy, and Reliability. By addressing the multifaceted needs of modern authentication, this study provides stakeholders with a comprehensive framework to guide decision making. To ensure that the results of the evaluation were comprehensible and adaptable to individual requirements, each criterion was broken down into ten specific evaluation questions that were scored based on insights from existing research and collected data from a conducted usability study, resulting in a maximum score of 60 points across all six criteria. The study utilized a custom-built website where participants interacted with the evaluated authentication methods in a controlled environment. A convenience sample of 26 participants was recruited, ranging in age from 13 to 83, with a relatively balanced gender distribution and diverse professional and technical backgrounds. Participants were tasked with completing both sign-up and login procedures, and their performance was measured in terms of completion times, error rates, and feedback on usability, security perceptions, and satisfaction. Key findings revealed distinct patterns across authentication categories. Knowledge-based methods, such as passwords and PINs, performed well in usability, affordability, and accessibility, but scored lower in security. Possession-based methods excelled in security and privacy, but were hampered by lower usability, affordability, and reliability scores due to their reliance on physical devices. Location-based methods performed well on most criteria but were rated lower on security and privacy due to concerns such as spoofing or data exposure. In contrast, web-based biometric methods scored consistently low across the evaluation factors due to challenges with reliability, usability, privacy concerns, and potential security concerns within the scope of the study. This study underscores the inherent trade-offs involved in the selection of authentication methods and emphasizes that no single method is universally optimal. Instead, organizations must align their selection with operational priorities and user requirements. This study offers a comprehensive framework for evaluating authentication methods, supporting organizations in making informed, context-specific decisions.David HasenhüttlMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
Decentralized Management in Condominium Associations - A qualitative study on the state of digitization and the economic relevance of blockchain in the Styrian property management industry
The increasing digitalization of administrative and decision-making processes is also transforming the Austrian real estate industry, leading to organizational and economic changes, particularly in the management of condominium associations. Blockchain technologies and related organizational models such as Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) offer the potential to make administrative processes more transparent, efficient, and tamper-proof.This master's thesis examines the current degree of digitization as well as the economic usability and acceptance of blockchain-based management models within condominium management in the federal state of Styria. The aim is to analyze the extent to which property management companies are willing to adopt blockchain technologies and which factors influence their decision-making and cost structures. The study is based on guided interviews with managing directors and senior employees of Styrian property management companies of different sizes. The collected data were analyzed using Mayring's structured qualitative content analysis to determine reoccurring patterns, attitudes, and obstacles. The results show that the property management companies surveyed are largely in favor of digitalization, but mostly rate their level of development as low to medium. Individual steps are primarily automated, while end-to-end processes are rare. IT landscapes are predominantly local or hybrid in structure. The use of cloud services is increasing, but is not yet widespread. A lack of interfaces leads to media breaks and duplicate data entry. Many projects arise on a situational basis, with a consistent digital strategy being the exception rather than the rule.Blockchain and DAO approaches are considered promising, especially with regard to transparency, traceability, and integrity of processes. In practice, however, their use is very limited, with only a small subgroup of respondents currently considering or piloting blockchain systems. Reservations exist due to uncertain legal requirements, technical complexity, costs, and limited market maturity.Overall, the study suggests that DAO-based models enable efficiency gains in the management of condominium associations. This requires clear legal frameworks, interoperable interfaces, user-friendly solutions, and systematic training for owners and administrators.
