Generation Z and employer branding in Austria: expectations towards the employee value proposition

    No full text
The entry of Generation Z into the workforce presents companies with new challenges regarding the positioning of their employer brand. This bachelor thesis explores the expectations Generation Z has towards their future employers and how these expectations influence their choice of employer. In order to remain competitive in the "war for talent", it is essential for companies to adapt their employer branding strategies to the values and priorities of this generation. Generation Z is characterized by a strong focus on work-life balance, a desire for meaningful work and high demands for authenticity, transparency and social responsibility from employers. The thesis combines theoretical foundations on employer branding and generational research with an empirical survey among the Austrian Gen Z. The questionnaire was structured along the five Employee Value Proposition (EVP) categories: Economic Value, Development Value, Social Value, Interest Value and Application Value. The results show that particularly social aspects, such as a positive work atmosphere and ethical corporate behaviour, are of major importance for Generation Z. In contrast, purely financial incentives, while still relevant, play a less dominant role than in previous generations. These findings highlight that companies need to focus on creating an authentic, supportive and socially responsible employer brand to successfully attract and retain young talents. Furthermore, the preferred communication channels and information behaviour of Generation Z underline the growing importance of a strong digital presence, particularly through social media platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn.submitted by: Stefan SeidlBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Addressing brain drain: a comparative analysis of sustainable development goals implementation in Sicily and EU regions

This research investigates Brain Drain (BD) levels and socio-economic characteristics of eleven NUTS 2 regions in the European Economic Area to assess the potential of the Agenda 2030 as a policy framework for developing anti-brain drain strategies in regions suffering from this phenomenon. Focusing on Sicily, the study combines quantitative analysis and policy evaluation to identify factors contributing to BD and to develop policies that counter the phenomenon. This research is based on Cost-Benefit Analysis, Push-Pull Model, Human Capital Theory, and Endogenous Growth Theory to analyse socio-economic factors influencing BD in the analysed regions, focusing on SDGs 4, 8, and 9 of the Agenda. In this context, a quantitative indicator for estimating regional BD levels was developed (ENSK), considering both international and intranational dimensions. This allowed for the classification of regions into sending or receiving, enabling the identification of structural socio-economic patterns associated with BD. The findings indicate different results for push and pull factors. The labour market was found to represent the principal push driver for skilled emigration, while innovation capacity, knowledge-intensive sectors and industrial productivity are typical pull factors for skilled immigration. Moreover, the analysis highlights employment stability as a prerequisite for enhancing innovation-driven sectors, which are capable of attracting and retaining talent. The Policy Transfer Theory and Institutional Theory were used to triangulate empirical findings with real-world policies adopted by receiving regions, to assess the feasibility of adoption in Sicily. In this context, the Agenda 2030 represents a crucial framework for disadvantaged regions, which can overcome institutional and administrative barriers by relying on a globally recognised instrument flexible for regional adaptation. This study provides recommendations and contributes to the debate on BD by relying on a multinational regional perspective, empirical measurement, theory-driven analysis, and supranational policy frameworks, providing guidance for decision-makers against BD.Rosita di LeoMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

ICSCA '25: Proceedings of the 2025 14th International Conference on Software and Computer Applications / ML Model for Predicting Tensile Strength of 3D-Printed Components Using Bayesian Optimization

    No full text
The increasing popularity of 3D printing as a manufacturing process has highlighted the need for predictive models, which can estimate the mechanical properties of printed components before production. This study focuses on developing a machine learning (ML) model for predicting the tensile strength of 3D-printed components, manufactured using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). The model uses key printing parameters (layer height, infill pattern, infill density, print speed, wall thickness) and provides respective predictions of resulting tensile strength thereby reducing the number of test prints to identify suitable printing parameters. Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) and Bayesian optimization were employed to train the model, utilizing tensile test data from only 57 3D-printed samples. The model performance, evaluated using the coefficient of determination (R²), showed promising results (0.948). This research underscores the potential of ML models to streamline the 3D printing process by optimizing parameter selection and minimizing material waste, thus contributing to the broader adoption of additive manufacturing.Vitaliy Mezhuyev, Sabine Hanusch, Paul Hofmann, Manfred MückeVersion of recor

    No full text
This work deals with the development of suitable licensing and maintenance models for software systems developed by small businesses for volunteer fire departments in Austria. The aim is to identify practical and sustainable approaches that meet both the specific requirements of fire departments and the resources and capabilities of small businesses. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the organizational, legal, and technical framework conditions in the fire service, requirements for software solutions were identified and reviewed with regard to numerous aspects such as data protection, reliability, and user-friendliness. On this basis, a detailed examination of existing licensing models on the market and a comparative analysis were carried out. Using a weighted decision matrix and SWOT analysis, a licensing model was identified that is based on a modular, proprietary software solution with on-premise infrastructure. This model allows flexibility for different fire department sizes and systems. In the area of maintenance, it was found that there are numerous maintenance strategies that complement each other. Furthermore, an evaluation model was developed to support the systematic selection of suitable maintenance strategies, taking into account the quality criteria of traceability, transparency, and practical relevance. The findings showed that a combination of preventive and corrective maintenance represents the greatest added value for both target groups. The models developed were finally applied to a software prototype and evaluated. The work shows that small businesses are able to provide suitable software systems for volunteer fire departments despite limited resources—provided that licensing and maintenance strategies are tailored to the target group and designed to be flexible. The results provide a basis for further work and practical implementation in future software projects in the field of emergency response organizations and small businesses.eingereicht von: Bernd MarkowitschAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Museums and exhibitions are increasingly designed as interactive spaces that engage all the senses. Diverse sensory stimuli invite visitors to explore their surroundings and discover content independently. While interactive museum experiences are widely discussed, there is little systematic research on how materials and surface properties can foster intuitive interaction and support educational objectives. This study investigates how material choices and surface characteristics influence visitors’ haptic perception and behavior in interactive exhibitions. Drawing on theories from material aesthetics, perceptual psychology, and exhibition design, the research combines qualitative and quantitative methods. The empirical section combines three approaches: Expert interviews with five professionals from planning, production, implementation, and maintenance provided insights into material selection, technical feasibility, and maintenance strategies. Ten case studies of existing exhibitions were analyzed using a structured observation framework to identify recurring design approaches and their impact on visitors. A mixed-methods experiment, conducted over several days, presented a standardized interaction element in 18 materials and recorded participants’ exploratory behavior, as well as the influence of material, color, shape, and haptic qualities and subjective experiences. The practical component of the study proposes an exhibition concept aimed at fostering critical consumer reflection. Comprising six thematic modules, it integrates analog, hybrid, and digital interactive formats. Material and surface design are deliberately employed to promote intuitive usability and reinforce the intended communication goals.Verfasserin: Anne Doris EichelbrönnerAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Less is more : sustainability in the museum

Doch was bedeutet und umfasst nachhaltige Museumsarbeit? Sustainability has become a buzzword, often associated with progressive action for a future worth living. As public educational institutions, museums are also called to act sustainably and to have a meaningful impact on society. But what does sustainable practice in a museum mean, and what does it encompass? How can a museum become an effective sustainable space both for itself and its visitors? Entitled “Less is More”, this master’s thesis addresses the overwhelming feeling caused by the overabundance of information, tasks, and content confronting museums and their audiences in times of mounting crises and unrelenting growth. Sustainable practices within museums and their exhibitions are outlined as a potential solution. The analysis is supported by expert interviews and a visitor survey, providing insights into the perceptions and expectations of museum audiences. The thesis concludes with visual communication concepts for sustainability, illustrated through the example of Kunsthaus Graz. Under the guiding principle of “Less is More”, the complex structures and interdependencies of sustainability in the museum context are revealed. At the same time, it becomes clear that by focusing on the essentials, museums can embark on a holistic, sustainable transformation that creates space for greater awareness and transparent communication, both within the museum team and outward into society.Charlotte EhrmannAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

    No full text
AbstractThis master thesis is centered around main title design. Building on the theoretical examination of title sequences, the results are depicted using a practical example. This thesis is divided into three sections. The first chapter focuses on the theoretical research of the title sequence. Especially the relationships to its environments as much as the relationships between its contents are of particular interest. The second chapter also centers around relationship dynamics, but on the narrative level. Briefly, the chapter presents an array of possibilities to depict romantic relationships within a title sequence. The final part showcases a possible workflow for the practical example Eisbären. Finally, the practical work is evaluated and reflected upon.Anna-Katharina HammererAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Governance structures and consensus mechanisms in public blockchains : an empirical study of current market Leaders

Blockchain technologies have developed into a relevant technology for the design of decentralized systems in recent years. However, their long-term success depends largely on the design of their governance structures. Since governance models significantly determine how decisions are made, upgrades are carried out, and conflicts are resolved, they are of central importance for the further development of decentralized systems. Nevertheless, there are still only a few comparable studies that systematically compare different approaches. This thesis examines the governance structures of selected blockchain systems, particularly with regard to consensus mechanisms and decision-making. The aim was to clarify how decision-making and system changes are organized in decentralized networks, which update mechanisms are used, and what differences arise between Proof of Work (PoW), Proof of Stake (PoS), and Proof of Authority (PoA). A comparative approach was chosen, in which the four blockchains Bitcoin, Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Dogecoin were examined based on seven predefined governance dimensions (including decentralization, process formalization, and update flexibility). The results were visualized in evaluation matrices and together in a radar chart to highlight similarities and differences. The analysis shows that PoW systems such as Bitcoin and Dogecoin are highly decentralized and security-oriented, but have low update flexibility. In contrast, PoS and PoA systems such as Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain have more formally structured or centralized governance models that allow for rapid adjustments. However, this often comes at the expense of decentralization and can be accompanied by the formation of power concentrations. Overall, the work illustrates that blockchain governance represents a tension between decentralization, flexibility, and formalization. The results thus provide valuable insights for both research and the practical design of future blockchain systems and decentralized organizations.eingereicht von: Alex QuantschnigAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

    No full text
This master's thesis focuses on a HEALTHY GNAS. The transformation of the former municipal office in Gnas into a primary care centre is intended to strengthen the medical care situation in the south-eastern Styrian municipality in the long term. The conscious choice of a location close to the centre means that distances are short and can be covered on foot, and also revitalises the rural town centre. The thesis is based on a review of the topics of health, primary care and health-promoting architecture through targeted literature research, which forms the basis for the architectural design of the primary care centre in the market town. An examination of three best practice examples in Styria serves as the foundation for the spatial sequences and synergies of the concept. A detailed analysis of the region and its medical infrastructure revealed significant deficits that need to be consciously addressed. The design creates a comprehensive health quarter for a sustainable improvement in quality of life through the redevelopment of several existing properties. In addition to functional structures, health-promoting design parameters are at the heart of the concept. Natural lighting, intensive greening and inviting materials create a healing environment that promotes patient well-being and a pleasant working atmosphere for staff. The master thesis understands medical undersupply as a growing problem and provides consistent impetus to make healthcare accessible to the entire population in the future. This thesis illustrates that architecture acts as a connecting element between social interactions, space qualities that promote well-being, and functional requirements.vorgelegt von Preiß LarissaAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202
