Opportunities for Bolashak Graduates in Kazakhstan

    No full text
This dataset is based on a survey of Bolashak graduates in Kazakhstan. The data was collected mostly on the 16th November 2016 during the Kazakh-British Centre for Competitiveness event “Developing Knowledge Transfer To Bolashak Graduates” in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The sample includes responses of 36 Bolashak scholarship graduates working in Kazakhstan. The survey was distributed as printed copy and respondents wrote answers by hand. Their answers were then copied to an Excel form. The survey was in two languages, English and Russian. Non-English language responses were translated to English mostly using Google Translate and were checked by the authors. All identifying information, including company name and address, was removed

EEG Data for Voluntary Finger Tapping Movement

    No full text
This dataset consists of EEG data recorded during voluntary asynchronous index finger tapping from 14 healthy individuals for investigating the temporal dynamics of EEG associated with motor intention. EEG was recorded using TruScan Deymed amplifier with 19 channels according to 10-20 international system for three conditions - right finger tap, left finger tap and resting state with sampling frequency of 1024Hz. 120 trials were collected per participant with 40 trials for each of the three conditions. This dataset consists of 6s EEG trials that were segmented after pre-processing and artefacts removal using Independent Component Analysis. Two additional channels are included containing finger tapping movement recorded using a bespoke microcontroller tapping device to mark the exact location of finger tap. The 6s trials were segmented from -3s to +3s with respect to the onset of the finger tap are included in this dataset

Quantification of nodulation in red clover (Trifolium pratense), white clover (T. repens), lucerne (Medicago sativa) and black medic (M. lupulina) in a range of 10 UK farm soils

    Get PDF
Soil was a collected from 10 organic farms across the UK and evaluated for the presence of compatible rhizobia for red and white clover, lucerne and black medic (aka yellow trefoil). The data details nodulation of plants grown in soil solutions from each farm, in triplicate, compared to control inoculum

TAMSAT Daily Rainfall Estimates (Version 2.0)

    Get PDF
The dataset comprises high resolution (0.0375 degrees) satellite-derived daily rainfall estimates for all Africa from January 1983 to December 2016 (data from 2017 onwards can be downloaded from the TAMSAT website: http://www.tamsat.org.uk/). The dataset is derived from the TAMSAT African Rainfall Climatology And Time-series (TARCAT) dataset (1983-present). Further details can be found on the TAMSAT website

    Competitiveness Environment Survey in Kazakhstan

    No full text
This dataset is based on a firm-level survey. The sample includes 89 businesses located in different regions of Kazakhstan. The survey was generated using Google Forms and distributed mostly via social networks. The survey was conducted in 2016 (January-May). This dataset provides information about businesses and the quality of the business environment with a focus on competitiveness and governmental support. This survey aims to establish a picture of conditions for doing business in Kazakhstan in 2016. The survey was in three languages, English, Russian and Kazakh. Non-English language responses were translated to English mostly using Google Translate and were checked by the authors. All identifying information, including company name and work address, were removed

Direct numerical simulations of turbulent flow over groups of buildings: DIPLOS-DNS-1

    No full text
This dataset contains postprocessed numerical data from direct numerical simulations performed using the CgLES code of turbulent flow over a regular array of rectangular 2Hx1Hx1H buildings for two different wind directions: domain size 12Hx9Hx8H for 0 degrees and 12Hx12Hx12H for 45 degrees. The data contain horizontally-averaged profiles, as well as vertical and horizontal profiles at specific locations, of selected first and second-order turbulent flow statistics. Further computational details are given in the article 'Measurements and computations of flow in an urban street system' by Castro et al., Boundary-Layer Meteorol. 162, 207-230 (2017). CgLES is a parallel code for performing large-eddy simulations (LES) and direct numerical simulations (DNS) over complex geometry, developed at the University of Southampton. Details of the numerical methods are given in the article Coceal et al., J. Fluid Mech. 589, 375-409

Dataset supporting a project of developing and optimising sample preparation in liquid AP-MALDI

    No full text
Dataset contains a set of data collected during liquid AP-MALDI MS sample preparation studies. Dataset contains 9 sets of mass spectrometry data acquired on an in-house developed AP-MALDI ion source attached to a commercial Synapt G2-Si mass spectrometer. Other data include 3 surface tension measurements acquired on a Kruess K-12 tensiometer, and 3 processed laser energy threshold measurements datasets

Measures of cross-pollination and yield production of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) in response to heat stress and insect pollination treatments

    Get PDF
Datasets relating to two experiments measuring cross-pollination and yield production of faba bean (Vicia faba L, cultivar Wizard) in response to heat stress and insect pollination treatments. This accompanies the paper titled 'Elevated temperature drives a shift from selfing to outcrossing in the insect pollinated legume, faba bean (Vicia faba).' Journal of Experimental Botany. Bishop J, Jones HE, O'Sullivan DM, Potts SG. (In press). Potted faba bean plants were exposed to either heat stress (30/24°C day/night temperature, 16 hour photoperiod) or control (20/14°C) treatments for five days during floral development and anthesis. These plants were then either i) moved to mesh cages that either contained bumblebees or were empty, or ii) moved to two field sites and either left open to allow visitation by wild insect pollinators, or enclosed individually in mesh bags. Cross-pollination was assessed using a morphological marker. Both the mesh cages and field contained pollen donor plants that were homozygous for a dominant 'dark hilum' trait. The experimental plants were homozygous for a recessive 'light hilum' trait. Thus, by observing which colour hila the experimental progeny produced, it was possible to identify individuals that had been sired by the pollen donor plants. Yield production parameters were assessed on the experimental plants at senescence. The effects of individual mesh bags used to exclude insect pollinators in the field experiment were established using two separate experiments. Separate groups of plants were either i) all bagged at the field sites, with a subset of flowers hand pollinated to establish the effect of bagging on yield production per flower while maximizing pollination, or ii) housed within a large mesh cage to exclude all insect pollinators, then either bagged or unbagged at the same time as the field experiment was conducted, with whole plant yield parameters then measured at senescence
