    Comparison of Silsoe Refresh Cube Campaign (RCC) Full-scale, Wind tunnel and CFD methodologies

    The information provided below is an overview of some of the key components. More information is included within the files stored into the database. Other data sets are also linked to. Full-scale: Measurements undertaken at Silsoe, UK, on a pressure tapped cube. Wind, temperature, surface pressure, and concentration measurements were undertaken. Most equipment measured at 10Hz aside from concentration measurements and meteorological measurements. The cube was isolated and surrounded by eight other cubes of similar size during the experiment to monitor the effects of sheltering. Wind-tunnel: Experiments were conducted in the Environmental Flow Research Centre (EnFlo), University of Surrey �A� wind tunnel (low speed open circuit). The test section is 0.6 m high, 0.9 m wide and 4.5 m long and is constructed of wood and metal with glass side panels. Computer fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation: A transient Navier-Stokes finite-volume simulation k-? sheer stress transport (SST) scale adaptive simulation (SAS) turbulence model was used to model the isolated cube and array at full-scale in Ansys Fluent 17.1 (Ansys Canonsburg, PA, USA). The k-? SST SAS model is a hybrid RANS-LES model that has shown superior results to steady state RANS and has been detailed for this purpose in King et al. (2017).     The mean and standard deviation of a series of normal probability distributions, describing magnetospheric ultra-low frequency (ULF, 1-20mHz) plasma waves observed by ground based stations, binned by solar wind properties, station and azimuthal angle (i.e. magnetic local time, or MLT).     Simulations with the sea ice model CICE investigating the impact of sea ice floe size distribution on seasonal Arctic sea ice retreat.

    This dataset has been generated by implementing a power law derived sea ice floe size distribution model within the CICE sea ice model. We use this dataset within the associated paper (Bateson et al., 2019) to investigate the impact of floe size on the seasonal fragmentation and melt of Arctic sea ice. We document several findings including that the floe size distribution model has a spatially and temporally dependent impact on the sea ice cover, in particular enhancing the role of the marginal ice zone in sea ice loss. We also show a strong model sensitivity to floe size distribution parameters within limits constrained by observations. We furthermore find that the impact of waves on floe size and the sea ice cover is strongly moderated by the wave attenuation rate

    SISAL (Speleothem Isotopes Synthesis and AnaLysis Working Group) database version 1b

    Note: This edition of the SISAL database was withdrawn on 13 July 2020. It has been superseded by a new edition available at http://dx.doi.org/10.17864/1947.256. Stable isotope records from speleothems provide information on past climate changes, most particularly information that can be used to reconstruct past changes in precipitation and atmospheric circulation. SISAL (Speleothem Isotope Synthesis and Analysis) is an international working group of the Past Global Changes (PAGES) project. The working group aims to provide a comprehensive compilation of speleothem isotope records for climate reconstruction and model evaluation. Version 1b of the SISAL database contains oxygen and carbon isotope measurements from 440 individual and 15 composite speleothem records from 221 cave systems worldwide, as well as metadata describing their cave settings and age-depth models. New records have been added and some metadata has been amended. The SISAL working group has also created SISAL chronologies for 20 entities, all of which had no published chronologies. In order to assure traceability, any presentation, report, or publication that uses the SISALv1b database should cite Atsawawaranunt et al. (2018) (The SISAL database: a global resource to document oxygen and carbon isotope records from speleothems; https://doi.org/10.5194/essd-10-1687-2018) and Comas-Bru et al. (2019) (Evaluating model outputs using integrated global speleothem records of climate change since the last glacial; https://doi.org/10.5194/cp-2019-25). If using individual sites or speleothems, the literature citations for published work provided in the database should also be cited. Contact information of data contributors of unpublished data is also provided and these should be contacted when unpublished records are used on an individual basis

    PADIE diffusion coefficients for plasmaspheric hiss

    This dataset contains a large number of quasilinear diffusion coefficients that describe the efficacy of wave-particle interactions in the collisionless plasma of Earth's inner magnetosphere. The individual diffusion coefficients are calculated using the PADIE software at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge (see Glauert, S. A., and Horne, R. B. (2005), Calculation of pitch angle and energy diffusion coefficients with the PADIE code, J. Geophys. Res., 110, A04206, doi:10.1029/2004JA010851.). Input information (wave intensity and plasma to gyrofrequency ratio) are obtained from co-located and simultaneous observations from Van Allen Probe A as it travelled through a region of space between 0900 and 1000 MLT, and from -5 to +5 degrees magnetic longitude during the period Septemer 2012 - June 2016. There are three locations in L*: L*=2.5+/-0.05; L* = 3.0+/-0.05 and L*=3.5+/-0.05. Diffusion coefficients are calculated separately for each set of co-located measurements, for the mean wave intensity and varying plasma to gyrofrequency ratio, and for the mean plasma to gyrofrequency ratio and varying wave intensity. The distribution of coefficients gives some indication of the variability of the wave-particle interaction due to plasmaspheric hiss and illustrates improvements that can be made to models of wave-particle interactions in Radiation Belt diffusion models

    Outputs from the MIT General Circulation Model (MITgcm) run in the idealized "Boomerang" configuration (two 45 degree-wide land masses defining a narrow Atlantic-like basin and a wide Pacific-like basin connecting to an unblocked Southern ocean). This dataset contains all data necessary to reproduce figures and analysis published in Ferreira et al. (2018, doi:10.1029/2018GL077019). It includes outputs from the ocean, atmosphere, sea ice, carbon cycle, and land surface components of the MITgcm simulations of the Cold and Warm states. Outputs cover the last 50 years of both simulations after spin-up. Outputs are yearly averages

    Data are simple sequence repeat (SSR) genetic fingerprints of the accessions in the apple collection of the National Fruit Collection, Brogdale, UK. The data are called and rounded allele scores, recorded by marker to the nearest base pair. The data represent a reproduction and update of the original SSR dataset from Fernandez-Fernandez F (2010) as detailed in the publication by Ordidge et al., 2018 (PLOS One). A number of alleles were adjusted based on either rescoring and/or recalling of the original data files using Genemapper software and/or reproduction of fingerprints following the original published protocols
