ItalianWoolf project: interviews with cultural mediators of Virginia Woolf in Italy
This dataset is part of the outputs of the research project Virginia Woolf and Italian Readers funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement no 838658.
The ItalianWoolf project studied recent editions of Woolf’s works, examining the editorial choices behind these publications. When no archival material was available, as was the case for most contemporary Italian translators and publishers, interviews with publishers, editors-in-chief and translators were a way to acquire information and insights into how Woolf was read and translated.
The interviews were filmed and made available on the project website (https://italianwoolf.reading.ac.uk/) and YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBURAFEdj4N9LPBt4EIj2yA).
The purpose of these interviews is to understand the editorial strategies behind Woolf’s publication in Italy, and the choices made by translators and by series editors or by independent publishers who decided to invest in the works of Virginia Woolf, in order to map out the cultural and institutional factors that shaped the translation and publication of her work.
The dataset contains 7 interviews, and interviewees are:
- Laura Lepetit, founder of the first feminist press in Italy, who inaugurated her catalogue with Woolf’s Three Guineas;
- Liliana Rampello, scholar, literary critic and essayist who edited several works by Virginia Wool;
-Antonio Bibbò, a former Marie Curie fellow who translated The Years for Feltrinelli in 2015;
- Mario Fortunato, writer and translator of Woolf’s short stories, of Orlando, and editor of the first Italian edition of Woolf’s diaries;
- Alessandra Bocchetti, a renowned feminist and co-founder of the Centro Culturale Virginia Woolf;
- Giovanna Granato, translator of the first complete edition of Woolf’s diaries in Italian;
-Nadia Fusini, the most renowned Woolf scholar in Italy, who re-translated Woolf’s The Waves to critical acclaim for the renowned Einaudi series Scrittori tradotti da scrittori and was the editor of a new and revised edition of Woolf’s oeuvre for the Mondadori Meridiani series in 1998

A twice-daily barometric pressure record from Durham Observatory in north-east England, 1843-1960 v1.1
This dataset consists of twice-daily observations of barometric pressure from Durham Observatory (54.768 °N, 1.584 °W, barometer cistern 107.3 m above mean sea level, MSL) from 23 July 1843 to 31 December 1960. The Durham record, which is 98.7% complete, is by far the longest digital barometric pressure series in northern England, and fills a very large temporal and spatial gap in the International Surface Pressure Database (ISPD).
A paper describing the data series has been accepted by Geoscience Data Journal, with publication expected in October 2021 (also available in CENTAUR).

Outputs from a volcanic ash transport and dispersion model (NAME), source inversion system (InTEM) and Himawari satellite retrievals for the 2019 Raikoke eruption
This dataset contains (1) the output of a volcanic ash transport and dispersion model (Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment - NAME) simulations of the 2019 Raikoke eruption used in the UK Met Office volcanic ash source inversion system (InTEM), (2) Himawari satellite retrievals provided by kind permission of the UK Met Office that were used in InTEM inversion system, (3) output from the InTEM system for the Raikoke eruption, (4) output of volcanic ash transport and dispersion model simulations used for comparison to satellite retrievals and to produce ash hazard risk maps. The use of this data is outlined in Natalie Harvey et al. (2022): Quantifying the impact of ensemble meteorology on emission estimates and volcanic ash forecasts of the Raikoke 2019 eruption

This dataset contains data obtained from experimental work in the physical properties laboratory and Sensory Science Centre of the Department of Food and Nutritional Science of the University of Reading. The data was obtained using the rheometer (viscosity, frequency sweeps, temperature ramps), texture analyser (hardness, stickiness, etc.), moisture balance, water activity meter, colorimeter and the trained sensory panel. Data replicates are presented in the same columns
Global crop pollinator dataset on temporal variation

This dataset is in a single Excel file that contains information on the richness and abundance of insect pollinators in crop systems collated from previous studies on crop systems from across the world.
The data file has five spreadsheets, details of which are outlined below:
1. Metadata
2. Summary - Information on study ID, country, crop, years of sampling and no. of sites
3. Abundance data - Species level data on pollinator abundance recorded at each study site
4. Site data - Site data on area covered, years of sampling and geographic coordinates
5. Climate data - Climate data where available for each study recorded during pollinator sampling
This dataset was generated by collating data on previous published/unpublished studies on crop pollinator communities from different crop systems in multiple countries. The collated data in this dataset has information from 43 studies on 21 different crops from 12 different countries. The information collated included site locations, climate data (if recorded), pollinator abundance data and species level information on crop pollinator communities observed in these study systems
MATLAB code for the localized Singular Value Decomposition approach of the Fast Multipole Method (the local SVD-FMM)
The local SVD-FMM is a new numerical approximation method for the fast computation of matrix-vector products. The acronym SVD stands for singular value decomposition and FMM stands for fast multipole method. This MATLAB code was written for the numerical experiments in a related publication, which show the application of the method to numerical weather prediction data assimilation. However, the code can be adapted to a wider range of applications, provided that the matrices therein are generated in the way described in the Methods section at the bottom of the README file. Future climate projections of surface weather variables, wind power, and solar power capacity factors across North-West Europe
The files contain hourly time-series of weather and energy variables which have been climate-adjusted to include the impact of climate change from five different climate model simulations, with the climate change impacts centred on the year 2035 (i.e. the mean change seen from 2020-2050). The climate-adjustment is implemented as a delta climate-change correction to observed historic weather data from the ERA5 reanalysis (which is also supplied alongside for convenience).
Hourly time series of surface meteorological variables useful for energy meteorology studies have been supplied (e.g. 2m temperature, near-surface wind speeds and surface solar irradiance), as well as heating/cooling degree-days, wind power capacity factors, and solar power capacity factors. The time series are calculated at national level across a sub-set of countries over North-West Europe, as well as for a sub-set of smaller regions over Great Britain and its surrounding seas. The locations of available wind and solar farms are used to weight wind and solar capacity factors respectively. 2020 population data is used to weight surface meteorological variables. The datasets have been produced to increase the use of meteorological data within power system modelling.

Pollen data and charcoal data of the Iberian Peninsula (version 2)
Sedimentary charcoal, preserved in lakes, peatbogs and other anoxic environments, has been widely used as an indicator of past changes in fire regimes. Pollen records can be used to reconstruct past climate changes by deriving a statistical relationship between modern pollen abundance and modern climate and applying this relationship to fossil pollen assemblages. Here, we present pollen data and charcoal data from the Iberian Peninsula.
The pollen data file includes basic information (e.g., latitude, longitude, elevation, source of the data, citation for original publication), age information (IPE age and IntCal20 mean and median ages and age uncertainties) and pollen counts for 205 taxa by depth (cm) for 120 sites (122 entities).
The charcoal data file includes basic information (e.g., latitude, longitude, elevation, charcoal. count type and unit), age information (IntCal20 mean and median age and age uncertainties) and charcoal quantity by depth (cm) for 55 sites (78 entities).
There are four main updates to the second version of Pollen data and charcoal data of the Iberian Peninsula: (1) the quality of the new age models created using IntCal20 calibration curve has been improved; (2) 9 more pollen entities have been added (ALCUDIA, ALGENDAR, GALDANA, CPORTER, ESGRAU, HTIMONER, TRAVESS1, PRATVILA, SONBOU) and one pollen entity removed (BAJONDI: the new age model cannot be correctly generated because of limited date information); 4 more charcoal entities have been added (El Payo core_50, El Payo core_50100, El Payo core_100150, El Payo core_150plus); (3) some charcoal entity names and charcoal site names have been edited to make them comparable with original sources and the Reading Palaeofire database (Harrison et al. 2021, https://doi.org/10.17864/1947.319); (4) some references and coordinates have been edited for consistency
Ultrahigh-throughput LAP-MALDI MS analysis of peptides and an enzyme assay
As part of the PhD project 'Advancing liquid MALDI Ion Source Designs and Applications in Modern Biological Mass Spectrometry' funded by the University of Reading and Waters Corporation the possiblity for high-throughput analysis of biomolecules was investigated.
Raw and processed data for liquid atmospheric-pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation (LAP-MALDI) mass spectrometry analysis of peptides and enzyme assay at speeds greater than 20 samples/s using a hardware and software-modified Synapt G2-Si with a UV laser are presented.
