Teacher Education for Integral National Development:A Philosophical Framework

    No full text
If a vacuum between teacher education and a carefully thought-out scientific programme for national development is permitted to exist, it will be challenging for developing countries to achieve national development. The goal of this study is to value the role that Teacher Education plays in the advancement of other educational levels, with a particular focus on the importance of both qualitative and quantitative education for the whole growth of a country. In light of the current educational issues in Nigeria, this study is especially concerned with the roles of teachers in the pursuit of integrated national development through effective teaching and learning. It is a widely held belief that most teachers seem to have very little basic orientations requisite for teaching and learning regardless of the level of teacher education development they have attained or are predisposed to, and that this is a result of how poorly they balance their personal issues. It is true that dealing with the unique nature of modern challenges requires a great deal of professional competence and the appropriate attitude and state of mind on the part of the teacher, and that ideologies as the aims of teacher education must be cognizant of the pursuit of integral national development. The purpose of the study is to place philosophy of education exclusively within Nigeria's focus of teacher education. It recommended, as its conclusion, that the teaching profession—better yet, teacher education—be properly managed and utilized to reap the rewards of education, particularly with a view to Nigeria's attainment of integrated national development

    No full text
The English language has been marked as an embodiment ofinconsistencies and this is obvious that special attention needs to begiven to it. The need is especially itching when one considers that byvirtue of it being a prestigious and an international language, students, specifically, English language students, encounter many problems nowand then; and despite the fact that pronunciation is taught in courses likeSpoken English, Phonetics and Phonology, there are still flaws instudents' pronunciation as they battle with confusion caused by suchinconsistencies. As a result, this study anchored on the factors thathinder students' competence in oral pronunciation. Specifically, itstudied the impact of inconsistency of English sound-spelling systemon students learning English as their second language in the Departmentof English Language and Literature, UNIZIK, Awka. However, itsrelevance will bring to bear some unnoticed phonological treasuresembedded in the English language which in turn, helps in speaking thelanguage without a foreign accent. In order to achieve the set purposes, the data were collected through the transcription of English words which were administered to forty (40) students from the mentionedinstitution through random sample method and were analysed withinthe scope of Error Analysis Theory which was propounded by StephenPit Corder and his colleagues in the late of 1970s. It was revealed thatthe inconsistency of sound-spelling system militate against students'proficiency in oral English communication.&nbsp

This study examines the impact of government expenditure on Nigeria’s gross domestic product between 2000-2022. The explanatory variables considered for this study include; agricultural expenditure, transportation/ communication expenditure, health expenditure and educational expenditure. The dependent variable is Nigeria’s gross domestic product. The study uses aggregate time series data from secondary sources. The study employs different econometric tools such as Unit root test, Augmented Dickey Fuller Test (ADF) Test,Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Approach and Error Correction Model (ECM).The findings of the study have confirmed that government expenditure on various sector influence Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product and follow established economic theories. Both Co-efficient of Determination as well as the F-statistic have established a good fit and joint significance of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The ECM results indicate that at the 66.70% speed of adjustment per annum the errors of the model corrected each period (each year). In other words, the speed implies that in the long run, 66.70 can be corrected after a number of periods (years) determined as follows: 100/66.70 periods (approximately1year 6months). The study recommends that; agricultural subsector which has a huge potential to stimulate economic growth in Nigeria should be supported by increasing government expenditure to the sector, the extent of government expenditure on Transportation/Communications sector should be sustained based on its positive impact on national real income, there is need to improve on government expenditure on health as high productivity in the economy can only be guaranteed with quality health conditions of workers and lastly there is need to sustain and increase government expenditures on education found to contribute positively and significantly to GDP

The Nexus Between Existentialism and Environmental Philosophy “Let beings be”- Martin Heidegger

    No full text
Man, as a “Being-in-the-world,” possesses a huge responsibility in making the environment congenial for his habitation. On this premise, in-depth analysis of the connections between existentialist and environmental philosophy is presented in this study, along with an examination of their shared principles and the results of their convergence. Environmental philosophy, which is concerned with the relationship between people and nature and emphasizes ecological interconnectedness and the intrinsic value of the environment, resonates strongly with existentialism, a philosophical movement focused on individual existence, self-awareness, and the search for meaning. This study therefore reveals the natural synergy between these two philosophical fields by comparing fundamental existentialist ideas like authenticity, freedom, and responsibility with environmental philosophy's ideas of ecological ethics, sustainability, and ecological consciousness. The study also explores the role existential view of existence and the environment might play in promoting ecological awareness, motivating meaningful environmental action, and enhancing our ethical treatment of nature. This research ultimately emphasizes the transformative potential of fusing existentialist philosophy with environmental philosophy, giving a convincing synthesis that develops a greater understanding of humanity's place within the natural world and its duty in nurturing and protecting it, and thereafter, advocating for a fundamental shift in human attitudes and lifestyles to promote ecological harmony
