Gaze, Space and Symbolism: A Multimodal Discourse Analysis of Book Covers of Northern Nigerian Literary Writings
This study explores the multimodal representation of characters on the covers of selected Northern Nigerian literary works from the perspective of Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA). The study addresses a research gap on how the covers of literary works, particularly novels and collections of short stories, represent characters and expose themes that reflect and negotiate societal narratives within the Northern Nigerian literary context. Drawing on Kress and van Leeuwen\u27s visual grammar (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2020) and Machin and Mayr\u27s semiotic analysis (Machin & Mayr, 2023), the study examines key visual elements such as gaze direction, spatial layout, inclusion/exclusion, and multimodal resources (e.g., color, clothing, props). The study conducts a qualitative analysis of both visual and textual components of ten covers purposively sampled from publishers\u27 archives, libraries, and online literary platforms. The findings underscore the significance of these covers as multimodal texts that communicate societal narratives and engage audiences both emotionally and intellectually. The study concludes that these covers serve as powerful tools for reflecting the themes of the texts which include identity, power dynamics, cultural heritage, and gender roles, while also challenging or reinforcing societal norms.

‘For Her Price is Far above Rubies’: Exploring Motherhood As an Archetype in Yoruba and Hebrew Proverbs
Despite the centrality of motherhood in African and biblical worldviews, scholarly engagement with its symbolic and philosophical representations across cultures remains relatively underexplored. The study, therefore, interrogates the cultural constructions and ideological representations of motherhood in Hebrew and Yoruba proverbial traditions. Data were purposively selected from Yoruba proverbs and the biblical text of Proverbs 31:10-30. Anchored in Catherine Acholonu’s Motherist theory and employing qualitative content analysis, the study examines how both traditions encode the ethics, aesthetics, and social philosophy of motherhood. The findings reveal the universality of proverbial expressions in expressing the moral and socio-cultural values associated with mothers. Both the Hebrew and Yoruba traditions valorise the mother as a virtuous, industrious and self-sacrificing figure whose wisdom and resilience are central to familial survival and communal stability. The persona in Proverbs 31 finds her parallel in the archetypal African mother who embodies love, tolerance and cooperation in contrast to the confrontational ethos of radical feminism. Like her African counterpart, she achieves empowerment not through antagonism but through industriousness, moral fortitude and spiritual agency. The study concludes that Motherism offers a transformative paradigm that transcends gender polemics by proposing a humanistic, inclusive, and communitarian model of gender relations grounded in complementarity, mutual respect, and social harmony

Artificial Intelligence and Human Resource Management in Modern Businesses
Artificial Intelligence has not only influenced the human endeavours but also the way human resource management (HRM) is being practiced in today’s world. As more of the work such as resume screening and interview scheduling are being handled by AI tools, the HR professionals can shift their attention to more productive tasks. But this also means that AI is gradually becoming the final filter to the world of work for many people, reducing them to mere applicants trying to pass a bot’s algorithm. Thus, while AI might be making HR more efficient, we should not allow it to turn into a ‘Terminator’ that delivers employment destiny. The research method employed in this study was a qualitative research method that involved data analysis of secondary data. In this case, the data was gathered from a systematic literature review. The literature review was done with a view of getting information on the subject matter and with a view of discovering the gaps in the current literature. The study was intended to help understand the impact of AI on the practices of HRM. It was expected that from this research, a better understanding would be made on how AI alters the process of HRM and the impact of this change on organizational performance. The study implies that AI has a high potential to help the HRM professionals to improve their decision-making and minimize time-consuming tasks. However, there are also some risks that are associated with the use of AI in the context of HRM such as the issue of privacy, security, and ethical issues. Therefore, this research contributes to the understanding of the nature of the effects of AI on the HRM and underlines the necessity to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the AI application in the sphere

Climate Change and Vegetable Farming in Anambra State: Risks and Resilience
Systems for producing vegetables are seriously threatened by climate change, especially in areas where agriculture is a vital source of income. The purpose of this study was to assess farmers\u27 adaptation tactics and examine how climate change is affecting vegetable production in Anambra State, Nigeria. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to gather primary data from 128 vegetable farmers in four villages that produce bitter and fragrant leaves. To address the study\u27s goals, a 4-point Likert scale, Ordinary Least square regression analysis, and descriptive statistics were used. The results showed that the majority of farmers in the study area were married women with one to ten years of farming experience and a secondary degree. The annual income of vegetable producers was greatly impacted by socioeconomic factors, including the area of the cropland and educational attainment. Unsuitable soil conditions, poorer farm revenues, decreased yields, and water scarcity were among the negative effects of climate change that were thought to exist. Zero or minimal tillage, less fertilizer, organic manure application, better irrigation systems, controlled bush burning, ridge construction, mechanical insect control, and vegetable processing were among the adaptation techniques farmers used. The study underlines the need for focused interventions to improve farmers\u27 adaptation capacity and guarantee the sustainability of this vital industry while highlighting the susceptibility of vegetable production systems to the effects of climate change
