ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TECHNOLOGIES ON CUSTOMER BEHAVIOUR: EVIDENCE FROM CONSUMER GOODS COMPANIES IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA

    No full text
Advances in technology and the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) in customer behaviour are on the rise, and the possibilities are limitless. The tracking of customer behaviour has become increasingly complex due to the evolving marketing environment. This study emphasises the significance of artificial intelligence in enhancing customer behaviour and investigates the impact of artificial intelligence on consumer behaviour within selected consumer goods firms listed in Nigeria, the most populous nation and one of the largest economies in Africa. The study employed a cross-sectional survey methodology, identifying and assessing 20 consumer product firms based on capitalization criteria and consistent dividend disbursements. Seven companies were selected from this group for additional examination. The sample size of 378 was established with the Research Advisor Table, with a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 5%. To mitigate the problem of non-response, suitable actions were implemented, resulting in the incorporation of an extra 113 respondents, constituting 30% of the initial sample. The modification yielded a final sample size of 491. A total of 480 copies of the questionnaire were filled and returned for analysis, with a response rate of 97.76%. The idea was evaluated by regression analysis. This chapter indicates that artificial intelligence (AI) functions as both a technological resource and a strategic asset for understanding customer behaviour (β = 0.503, t = 10.251, p < 0.05). This indicates that artificial intelligence is a crucial determinant of consumer behaviour. The research indicates that organisations ought to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) solutions and technologies to enhance operational efficiency. By implementing AI, firms can optimise processes, save costs, and improve their adaptability to market volatility and customer demands.&nbsp

    No full text
This paper applied Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) Theory to adoption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The target population includes the residents of four estates in Agege, Lagos State. A survey of households (N = 384) in the four estates in the Agege area of Lagos State, Nigeria was undertaken with a structured questionnaire. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to test the research hypotheses. The findings revealed that relative advantage (β = .288, T = 5.856, p<0.05); compatibility (β = .306, T = 7.763, p<0.05); complexity (β = . 268, T = 5.736, p<0.05)); trialability (β = . 384, T = 8.798, p<0.05); and observability (β = . 454, T = 8.429, p<0.05) significantly and positively affected LPG adoption by households in the surveyed estates. It was concluded that the DOI theory is appropriate to explain the phenomenon of a clean cooking fuel adoption in the context of a developing country like Nigeria. The paper made a number of recommendations for marketers, government agencies, and potential household adopters, highlighted the limitations of the research, and provided future research directions

    No full text
Notwithstanding the recognised importance of employee performance for organisational success, the specific impact of employee mental health on sustained productivity, particularly in the context of Nigerian organisations, remains an under-explored area in existing literature. This study addresses this research gap by examining the connection between employees’ mental health and performance levels in specific organisations in Ibadan, Nigeria. The psychological, emotional, social, and occupational well-being of 400 employees from both public and private sectors was assessed using questionnaires that examined task, adaptive, and contextual aspects of performance. Findings from multivariate regression indicate that higher levels of mental health are associated with improved performance, accounting for 40.2% of task performance, 46.0% of adaptive performance, and 41.7% of contextual performance. These results underscore the critical importance of employee mental well-being for enhanced work outcomes and highlight the need for further research in this geographical and cultural context. The study implies that organisations should prioritise mental health initiatives, recommending policy updates to support wellness activities, foster safe work environments, and implement routine mental health checks

Faced with lots of socioeconomic challenges, which range from mass unemployment to high rate of inflation, dwindling foreign direct investments, and steady depreciation of the naira ultimately culminating in widespread poverty, massive entrepreneurship through effective entrepreneurial education of the undergraduate population, tend to be the way to go, for Nigeria to surmount her overwhelming socioeconomic quagmire. Consequently, this paper sought to: Identify practical and viable entrepreneurial skills that can be acquired by Nigerian tertiary students through campus entrepreneurial development centers (EDCs); examine basic requirements and standards for the effective transfer of entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to the trainees; proffer models for trainees’ business start-up, financing, promotion and long term sustainability. Using a structured literature review approach, some past related studies were x-rayed to establish the relationship between entrepreneurship education and economic emancipation especially as it has to do with financial independence of the undergraduate and graduate population. Subsequently, viable entrepreneurial and vocational areas were identified as skills that Nigerian undergraduates can be trained in through their respective entrepreneurial development centers (EDCs) on campus. However, for achievement of effective entrepreneurial knowledge and skills transfer to trainees, adequate funding, standardization and equipping of the EDCs were identified as being paramount in addition to the fulfillment of other certain requirements. Finally, feasible and efficient models for trainees’ business start-up, financing, promotion and long term sustainability were proffered, and thus initiating a sustainable model for the financial independence of Nigerian tertiary students and graduates through practical and effective entrepreneurial education using the campus EDCs

This study investigates the determinants of customer patronage in Nigeria’s banking sector, using Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc as a focal case. Six key factors—ambience, quality of service/service efficiency, digital infrastructure, emotional attachment/brand familiarity, perceived trustworthiness/social–regional affiliations, and bank performance—were examined using regression analysis, chi-square tests, and factor analysis on data obtained from 120 respondents. Findings indicate that all six variables exert a positive and statistically significant influence on customer patronage, with bank performance, service quality, and digital infrastructure emerging as the strongest predictors. Factor analysis further shows that these three constructs collectively account for more than 66% of the variation in patronage levels. The study concludes that customer patronage in the banking industry is both performance-driven and perception-sensitive, shaped by financial robustness, service efficiency, digital capability, and relational trust. It recommends that banks deepen investments in digital modernization, enhance service delivery standards, strengthen corporate performance, and cultivate social trust to maintain competitive advantage in the evolving post-digital banking landscape
