Technology-Enabled Knowledge Sharing in Federal Universities: Examining the Predictive Factors among Professional and Paraprofessional Librarians in South-East, Nigeria

    No full text
This study examines factors predicting technology-enabled knowledge sharing among Professional and Paraprofessional Librarians (PPLs) in federal universities across South-East Nigeria. A total enumeration technique was employed, involving all 238 PPLs from five federal universities in the region. Data were collected using a validated structured questionnaire, with reliability coefficients of 0.84 for technology availability, 0.75 for perceived ease of use, 0.84 for perceived usefulness, and 0.90 for technology-enabled knowledge sharing. Descriptive statistics addressed research questions, while simple regression analysis tested hypotheses. Findings revealed that technology availability, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness positively and significantly predicted technology-enabled knowledge sharing. However, despite the availability of technology, ownership is primarily personal rather than institutional. Ease of use was moderate, as some PPLs struggled with troubleshooting and felt intimidated by technology. A small group perceived technology as unnecessary. Although LIS professionals actively engaged in online discussions and networking, their participation in content creation and structured knowledge-sharing platforms remained low. To address this, the study recommends among others, that the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) and the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) organize training programmes to enhance librarians\u27 librarians\u27 ability to use technology for knowledge sharing as part of their ongoing professional development.&nbsp

The study examined the application of technology ethics in the use of electronic library resources (ELR) among undergraduates in Nigeria. Four research purposes guided the study which sought to determine the awareness of undergraduates in the application of technology ethics in the use of ELR, ascertain the level of application of technology ethics in the use of ELR, ascertain the challenges faced by undergraduates in adhering to technology ethics and suggest strategies to tackle the challenges associated in the application of technology ethics while using ELR. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The target population of the study comprised 20,103 undergraduates in COOU, Igbariam in Anambra State. The sample size of 392 was derived from the population of the undergraduates who are the registered library users in COOU library using Taro Yamane\u27s formula and convenience sampling technique. A validated self designed questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data were analysed using mean ratings and simple percentages. Findings of the study revealed that majority of of the students were not aware of the technology ethics and didn\u27t apply them when using electronic library resources. Challenges included lack of awareness of technology ethics principles and the pressure to prioritize convenience. The study concluded that most undergraduates are not aware of technology ethics and have not applied it when using electronic library resources. The study recommended the integration of a comprehensive technology ethics education into the LIS curriculum to increase awareness and promote adherence to ethical behaviours when using electronic library resources and the establishment of clear policies and guidelines for ethical use of ELR

MAPPING THE SUBSURFACE STRUCTURES AND SEDIMENTARY THICKNESSES IN PARTS OF MIDDLE BENUE TROUGH, NIGERIA USING INTERPRETATION OF AEROMAGNETIC DATA

    No full text
The study aimed at mapping the subsurface structures and sedimentary thicknesses in parts of Middle Benue Trough, Nigeria using interpretation of aeromagnetic data. Four aeromagnetic data acquired from Nigerian Geological Survey Agency were merged, displayed and analyzed using various standard techniques including spectral analysis. The result depicts that the study area possess variable magnetic intensity ranging 8480 nT to 8630 nT for total magnetic intensity and -100 nT to 140 nT for residual anomalies. The visual inception of the derivative and lineament maps along with the Rose diagram indicate that the area is intensely fractured with major structures trending in the NE-SW direction while the minor structures trend in E-W and NW-SE path. The spectral analysis result depicts two ranges of sedimentary thicknesses, namely; the shallower thicknesses which vary from 0.52 km to 1.90 km and the deeper thicknesses which vary from 2.00 km to 6.82 km. The results also show the variability of the sedimentary thickness with an average of 3.73 km in the study area being part of Middle Benue Trough depicting a sub-basin configuration. The study concludes that the existence of subsurface lineament structure systems and high sedimentary thicknesses could serve as huge boost for possible hydrocarbon accumulation within the study area

Terrain Mapping/Classification: Water Level Analysis of Vulnerable Flood Zones in Parts of River Niger, North-Central Nigeria

    No full text
The study area is situated in the North-Central part of Nigeria, geographically located between UTM-Zone 32N, Northing (885012 to 912575) and Easting (224620 to 252021) coordinates covering a total surface area of 768.94 km2. Floods are caused by many factors: Heavy rainfall, highly accelerated snowmelt, severe winds over water, unusual high tide, tsunamis, or failure of dams, levees, retention ponds, or other structures that retained the water. In this study, a Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) DEM image was used to classify terrain and model water level with respect to elevation which reveal decrease in elevation from the west to east within the study area, significantly towards river Niger. Water level image analysis shows that newly developed areas along the river Niger are flood prone to include the people of Budan, Apaata, Ekpu, Aisawa, Adamagu, Agbodo, Atada, Idoji, Emoa, Kpapazi, Ajara, ozahi, Panda, Chukanuku and Akanu. These settlements and the NW-SE trending busy Abuja-Lokoja road parallel to river Niger will also be greatly affected when water level rises up to 50m above ground level

    No full text
This study investigated pedagogical strategies employed by teachers to enhance pupils’ performance in mathematics in Education District 5A, Grand Bassa County, Liberia. Guided by three research questions, the study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population comprised 555 teachers across 89 primary schools, from which a stratified random sample of 75 mathematics teachers (45 males and 30 females) was selected to ensure proportional representation. Data were collected using a self-structured, 18-item instrument titled Pedagogical Strategies for Improving Pupils’ Performance in Mathematics Questionnaire (PSIPPMQ). The instrument was validated by experts, and reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha yielded a coefficient of 0.82, confirming strong internal consistency. Descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, were employed to analyze the data. Findings revealed that teachers strongly endorsed hands-on instructional, problem-solving, and collaborative learning strategies as effective approaches to improving mathematics achievement. Problem-solving approaches fostered critical thinking, resilience, and contextual application of mathematics to everyday life. Collaborative learning strategies, including group projects, peer tutoring, and teamwork-based games, promoted motivation, communication, and shared responsibility, thereby strengthening both cognitive and social skills. It recommends deliberate integration of these strategies into classroom practice, supported by teacher training and curriculum development, to ensure sustainability. Collectively, these approaches provide practical, evidence-based solutions to address resource limitations and low performance in Liberia’s educational context, preparing pupils for future academic and professional success

LA FLEXION VERBALE EN ỌRỌ, EN HAOUSSA ET EN FRANÇAIS : COMPRENDRE LES DIFFÉRENCES POUR UNE MEILLEURE PERFORMANCE

    No full text
Learners of a foreign language such as French are very often faced with a number of difficulties, which sometimes manifest themselves as linguistic interference, capable of slowing down learning. The ọrọphones and Hausaphones learners of French are no exception. So what difficulties might learners encounter during their use of verbs in French utterances? The present paper undertakes to demonstrate how understanding the structural differences of verbs in ọrọ, Hausa and French could help solve problems of subject-verb agreement in ọrọ and Hausa learners of French. The contrastive analysis hypothesis was used as a theoretical basis. Thus, in the present paper, a description of verbs conjugated in the present tense in the three languages has been made. Similarities and dissimilarities were identified. The use of subject personal pronouns with verbs in the three languages was noted, as well as morphological changes in verbal inflection according to person in the three languages in contrast. Syntactically, in ọrọ, the grammeme is postposed to the verb lexeme (idi-kpiek: learn/teach). In Hausa, this grammeme is (postposed/antéposé) to the verb lexeme. In French, grammemes are anteposed to their lexemes (mang-ez). Furthermore, gender and number agreement with the personal pronoun is different in the three languages. As we have seen, this significant structural difference is capable of causing difficulties with subjectverb agreement in French utterances. It was therefore proposed that the learners concerned should practise the conjugation of French verbs on a regular basis, under the guidance of a knowledgeable teacher, in order to avoid grammatical errors and to improve their performance in French.

Our study dwells on metaphysical interface, with regards to marriage in François Mauriac’s Thérèse Desqueyroux. Mauriac, an Existentialist Christian, maintained that in marriage, there was a vital ingredient needed, which unfortunately was lacking in his society. Marriage is an institution conceived by God for humanity. We know, however, that spouses get married for different reasons and that there is no perfect marriage. One’s conception of marriage, is not what he meets within the marriage, sometimes. Sometimes there are resounding successes; sometimes there are alarming failures, coupled with unimaginable conflicts. Marriage is affected by several factors. In this study, we are taking into consideration an aspect of these factors in Thérèse Desqueyroux. We have tried to carry out a textual analysis in our study. Here, it is a matter of metaphysical interface with mental conflict, where we consider the intellectual incompatibility of the spouses; the moral conflict discussing the discernment of good and bad, and then the spiritual conflict bordering on emotion and God. According to Mauriac, as long as people keep away from the truth, certain aspects of life, like marriage, will continue to fail. He maintains that for marriage to succeed, divinity itself is required, since it is a divine phenomenon.

Analysis of Tenancy under Customary Property in Nigeria

    No full text
Generally, in most African communities and particularly in Nigeria, it is common place to see familieswho have excess lands granting some of it to relatives, non-relatives and other families who do not haveenough. This grant may be accompanied by payment of tributes as it was called in the olden days, orrent as it may be understood now, or even by the performance of some services. This grant is generallyguided by rules of customary law, norms, culture and tradition peculiar to the community and this iswhat Tenancy under Customary Property in Nigeria is all about. Using a doctrinal researchmethodology, this study examines the said practice by highlighting the nature, rights and obligations oftenants in customary land tenure arrangements. The study identifies some challenges facing customarytenancy in Nigeria including conflict with the Land Use Act, inheritance disputes and insecure tenure. The findings underscore the need for harmonization between customary and statutory land law to ensurethat tenants and landowners co-exist peacefully and equitably

Disqualification Criteria for Directors under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020: AnAbsurd Addendum

    No full text
Regulating company directors is important towards achieving good corporate governance indices. TheCompanies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (CAMA) was enacted in part to improve accountability in themanagement of companies. Although a significant portion of the earlier 1990 law of the same name wasretained, the new legislation nonetheless made notable changes with respect to many aspects ofcompany law, including those relating to the qualification of directors, with which this paper isconcerned. The Business Facilitation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2022 (BFA) coming after it,further made significant amendments to the new CAMA. While both laws have not been in force longenough for any significant judicial analysis of their provisions, a superficial reading of section 283(c)CAMA, which introduced an addendum to the previously known list of disqualifying criteria fordirectors, so that directors removed by the company under section 288 CAMA, are now also disqualified, suggests absurd conclusions and thus, raises certain questions which warrant careful study. Whileemploying the medium of doctrinal analysis, involving primary and secondary literature, this paperexamined this new addendum relating to the disqualification of directors, with the aim of determiningits limits and potential, and further providing insights that could inform future improvements to the law.The paper found that the said section 283(c), in spite of its amendment by the BFA, leaves the law opento absurd interpretations and, on that note, must be amended to limit the disqualification on reasonableterms, and further provide for a register of disqualification for directors
