PUBLIC SECTOR REFORMS IN NIGERIA: A STUDY OF THE TREASURY SINGLE ACCOUNT
This study examines public sector reforms in Nigeria, focusing on the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) as a tool to enhance financial transparency and accountability. The background to the study stems from Nigeria\u27s long-standing issues of corruption and inefficiency in public financial management. The objectives of the study are to assess the impact of TSA on improving government revenue control, reducing financial leakages, and enhancing budgetary discipline. The research methodology is conceptual, relying on secondary data to analyse the successes and challenges of the TSA policy. The findings revealed that TSA has significantly contributed to centralising government revenues, reducing opportunities for corruption, and improving cash management. However, challenges such as initial resistance from government agencies, technological gaps, and capacity-building needs hindered full implementation. The study concludes that while TSA has strengthened financial oversight, addressing its operational challenges is key to maximising its effectiveness. Recommendations include strengthening technological infrastructure, enhancing public sector staff capacity, and fostering stakeholder collaboration to ensure long-term success. This analysis highlights the critical role of financial management reforms in promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s public sector.

QUALITATIVE ANALOGY OF CUSTOMER SERVICE DELIVERY STRATEGIES ON CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP DIMENSIONS: NIGERIAN INSURANCE INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
Given the sector\u27s pervasive trust deficit, understanding how specific strategies like complaint handling and technical competence of the service staff regarding insurance products are very important. This exploratory, small-scale study investigated the relationship between customer service delivery strategies on customer relationship dimensions among customers of the selected insurance firms (AIICO Insurance Plc., Leadway Assurance Company Limited and FBNInsurance Limited) in Lagos State, Nigeria. Using a qualitative research design, the study conducted face-to-face interviews with four participants. The data, analyzed with NVivo software, revealed preliminary insights into how customer service delivery strategies influence customer relationship. The findings from the study’s thematic analysis suggest a potential link between a firm\u27s customer service delivery strategies and customer relationship, based on the experiences shared by the six interviewees. The study\u27s main takeaway is that prioritizing efficient and effective service delivery appears to be a factor in fostering customer satisfaction and loyalty. Based on these initial insights, we suggest that service providers consider focusing on customer service delivery programs to improve customer relationships and brand awareness. Imminent, larger-scale study would be helpful to additionally explore and confirm these foundational findings.

PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF CORRUPTION IN THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE AND ITS EFFECT ON CRIME CONTROL
Corruption within the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) remains a critical barrier to effective crime control, manifesting through bribery, extortion, unlawful detention, and selective law enforcement. Such practices erode public trust and undermine the legitimacy of law enforcement institutions. This study examines public perceptions of corruption in the NPF and its effect on crime control. Employing a quantitative descriptive survey design, data were collected from 200 respondents and analyzed using SPSS with frequencies, tables, and charts. The study is grounded in Structural Functionalism, which emphasizes how institutions maintain social cohesion, stability, and order through clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Findings indicate that both actual and perceived corruption reduce the deterrent effect of policing, discourage crime reporting, encourage underreporting, and distort official crime statistics. The study concludes that systemic corruption significantly impairs crime control in Nigeria and recommends structural reforms, strengthened internal accountability, and enhanced procedural justice to restore public trust and improve policing effectiveness.

Relationship between Substance Abuse and Suicidal Ideation among Undergraduates in Kwara State, Nigeria: Implications for School Counselling
This study examined the relationship between substance abuse and suicidal ideation among undergraduates in Kwara State, Nigeria. The descriptive survey of correlational type was adopted for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select respondents from three tertiary institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria. The research instrument, titled: “Substance Abuse and Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (SASIQ)” was used to collect data from the respondents. The findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between substance abuse and suicidal ideation among undergraduates in Kwara State. The findings revealed that substance abuse had no significant relationship with respondent’s age, gender, class level, place of residence, and course of study. Findings also showed that suicidal ideation had no significant relationship with respondent’s gender, class level, place of residence, age and course of study. It was therefore, recommended that undergraduates struggling with substance abuse should seek counselling and support services from professionals in school as this will help to prevent the incidents that could lead to suicidal ideation in tertiary institutions in Kwara State. Education stakeholders, including school administrators, level advisors, counsellors, parents, and health practitioners, should collaborate to develop comprehensive programmes that focus on prevention, early intervention, and support for undergraduates struggling with substance abuse and suicidal ideation, regardless of age, gender, class level, place of residence and course of study
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a Counselling Strategy for Reducing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Associated with Rape
Rape is an unlawful sexual intercourse between a man and a woman, and the act is becoming very rampant in Nigeria. Most of the time, perpetrators go unpunished, while most rape survivors develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), leading to social, psychological, and emotional pains. Rape victims thus require therapeutic intervention to adjust to this situation. This paper therefore highlights the usefulness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a counselling strategy for mitigating PTSD among victims of rape. ACT is designed to defuse emotional rigidity and emphasises engaging clients in value-based positive behaviours while experiencing difficult thoughts, emotions, or sensations. It is a therapeutic approach used in helping rape victims overcome emotional and psychological trauma, such as hopelessness, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, self-blame, and flashbacks. The paper also covers a review of relevant literature on the concepts of rape, theories of rape, rape trauma syndromes, as well as the application of ACT in reducing PTSD among rape victims in Nigeria. Based on the review, it was suggested that counsellors in Nigeria should adopt ACT in assisting rape victims to cope with the challenges associated with PTSD
Efficacy of Acceptance-Commitment Therapy and Social Skills Training in Mitigating Depressive Symptoms among University Students in Ogun State, Nigeria
Depression among university students has emerged as a growing mental health concern, significantly affecting academic performance, social functioning, and overall well-being. This study investigated the efficacy of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Social Skills Training (SST) in mitigating Depressive Symptoms Among Undergraduate Students in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study was anchored on two theories: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Learned Helplessness Theory of Depression. Five research questions and hypotheses guided the study and quasi-experimental pre-test post-test research design was adopted. Also, the multi-stage sampling process was used to select a total of 292 respondents from three Universities within Ogun State. Furthermore, three research instruments namely: Goldberg Depression Inventory (GDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory-Adult Form (CSEI-AD) were utilized to collect pre-test and post-test data. Additionally, the selected respondents were divided into three treatment groups namely: ACT group, SST group and the control group. Thereafter, the pre-test post-test data collected was analysed using Descriptive Statistics, Analysis of Co-variance (ANCOVA), Fisher’s t-tests and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). The findings revealed that there is a significant difference in the pre-test post-test mean scores of University students with depression symptoms, anxiety and low self-esteem exposed to ACT, SST and the control group. Conversely, there is no significant gender difference in their pre-test post-test mean scores. Also, there is no significant difference in the pre-test post-test mean scores based on the type of university. These results underscore the value of integrating evidence-based interventions like ACT and SST into university counselling programs to enhance students’ mental well-being. It is therefore recommended that Universities should intensify effort in tackling depression among students by integrating ACT and SST programes into student counseling services as evidence-based interventions to promote mental well-being on campuses. Also, given the emerging trends of manifestations of depression among students, regular training on how to effectively manage incidences of depression using treatment techniques like ACT and SST should be held for Counsellors, Social Workers and Psychologists. This will help to mitigate depressive symptoms among University undergraduate students.
National Development and Multilingualism in Nigeria
Multilingualism and national development in Nigeria highlight that Nigeria’s linguistic diversity is both a national resource and a potential source of conflict. While some sources argue that multilingualism can enhance literacy, economic growth and cultural cohesion when supported by strategic language planning, others point to the potential for exclusion and the role of English as a unifying official language. This paper ex-rays the indices of national development, language planning and the implications of language policy and planning to national development. It suggests a need for inclusive language policies that leverage linguistic diversity for equitable socio-economic transformation and national unity
Leveraging Digital Tools for Vocabulary Development in Nigerian ESL Classrooms
This study investigates the extent to which digital technology is strategically incorporated in Nigerian English language classrooms to enhance vocabulary development among ESL learners. Grounded in Constructivist Learning Theory, which emphasizes active learner engagement and knowledge construction through meaningful experiences; the theory explores how digital tools can foster interactive and student-centered vocabulary acquisition Given the persistent challenges associated with teaching vocabulary, the study emphasizes the importance of stimulating learners\u27 interest and motivation by leveraging digital resources to create dynamic learning environments. A quantitative research approach was employed to analyze data collected through structured questionnaires administered to 40 English language teachers across government, missionary, and private secondary schools. The findings reveal that while digital technologies, such as computers and internet connectivity are present in schools, their application in vocabulary instruction remains limited. Most English language laboratories are non-functional, and many teachers lack adequate familiarity with internet-based educational tools and vocabulary teaching software. The most frequently used digital method involves projecting downloaded pictures and videos to engage students visually. However, unreliable internet access continues to hamper more advanced technological integration. The study concludes that in order to enhance vocabulary learning in today’s technology-driven era, English language teachers must become proficient in the use of online platforms and software tailored for vocabulary instruction. It recommends regular professional development programs, including workshops and seminars, to equip teachers with the necessary digital pedagogical skills. By doing so, learners can be more effectively supported in building their vocabulary in meaningful, interactive, and engaging ways
