Forced vibration analysis of rectangular clamped plate subjected to hydrostatic loads
Master's thesis on "forced vibration analysis". It contains diagrams, pictures, mathematical equations and tyables.This study presents forced vibration analysis of rectangular clamped plate subjected to hydrostatic load. Galerkin’s equilibrium equation of plate under forced vibration was used. Orthogonal polynomial deflection equation of a plate under hydrostatic load was also used. The deflection equation was substituted into the Galerkin equation and integrated within the closed domain. After integration, the natural frequency of the plate was determined for free
vibration. The coefficient of the deflection for the various cases of forced vibration was also determined. Different percentages (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%) of the fundamental natural frequency were used as various forcing frequencies. With these frequencies, this study obtained deflection, bending moment and shear force of the plate for different values of aspect ratios (p=a/b), where a and b are the plate dimensions along x and y-axes. The values of fundamental natural frequency obtained were compared with those from Ventsel and Krauthemmer, Galin and Janich. For a square plate, the fundamental natural frequency obtained is 35.9982Hz and those of Ventsel and Krauthemmer, Galin and Janich are 36.3485Hz, 36.000Hz and 37.2500Hz respectively. For the same square plate, the mid span deflection using 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of fundamental natural frequency are 0.00131m, 0.00164m, 0.00218m, 0.00327m and 0.00655m respectively. The edge bending moments of the square plate for same forcing frequencies are 0.0503KNm, 0.0621KNm,
0.0828KNm, 0.1257KNm and 0.2513KNm respectively. It was observed that deflection, bending moment and shear force increase as the forcing frequency increases.Federal University of Technology, Owerri
Challenges facing semi-urban fish farmers use of information and communication technology devices in Imo State, Nigeria
A research article on "semi-urban fish farmers use of information and communication technology devices" It contains tablesThe study examined the challenges semi-urban fish farmers face in their use of information and communication technology devices in Imo state. Data were obtained using structured questionnaire from 210 fish farmers selected randomly from a list of 2300 fish farmers obtained from fish farmers
cooperative office in Owerri, the state capital. Data collected were analyzed using statistical tools such as percentages and mean. Results showed that majority (37.6%) are within the active age of 41-50, 58.6% are males, 50% have secondary education, with 11-15 years of fish farming. The respondents
have frequent access to radio, telephone (mobile), television, magazines and newspapers. The results of the analysis further showed that the fish farmers need information on feed formulation, water management, disease management, fingerlings, processing and drug use. The challenges faced by the
fish farmers include erratic power supply, low level of education, language barrier, low income, and lack of skills in ICT. In view of the following it was recommended that communication companies and service providers improve their network coverage. Government should also improve in their provision of

A Novel approach to estimation of leak location in an oil pipeline
The article has figuresThis paper presents various approaches to the location of leak in an oil pipeline. However these approaches are based on the available input data for the leak location study. The first approach is the hydraulic gradient intersection approach using Pipes and Excel worksheet. This method relies on the expectation that a leak disturbance settles out eventually to a new Steady-state position. The second approach utilizes a new concept of flow through an orifice and liquid relief through a valve to evolve a criterion for elapsed leak time in an event of a leak as well actual leak time to determine leak location. Orifice area was determined through a liquid relieving scenario and back-pressure at the point of leak assumed to be at atmospheric pressure. A set of mathematical equations were developed and integral solution of the form function of a function was used to solve the resulting differential equation describing the depressurizing process. The model was however validated using a pipeline profile data of a pipeline X which has suffered spill in time past at Niger Delta region where it performed well. The two approaches vary in their input data requirements as mentioned before. Key inputs to the former are the input and output flow conditions of temperature, pressure and flow rate while the latter requires the time (shut-in time and time of leak). Application of deterministic and stoichastic analysis of fault seal integrity in Baka Field, Niger Delta
This thesis is for the award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) degree in GeophysicsFault seal analysis in fault dependent reservoirs were carried out at different reservoir levels in the Baka Field, Niger Delta. These involved stratigraphic correlation, 3-D seismic interpretation of faults and horizons, time-depth conversion of all interpreted faults and structural maps using both check-shot and synthetic seismogram. Also, static models of all interpreted reservoir levels, and 3-D deterministic and stochastic fault seal integrity models were carried out. The deterministic approach applied in this study is sensitive to uncertainties associated with mapping of horizons in the proximity of faults and the inherent uncertainties in the static fault interpretation in both position and fault zone properties complexity. However, the integration of stochastic approach captured the uncertainties in the position of the reservoirs at all interpreted faults by allowing multiple realizations of stacking geometries relative to their lateral reservoir distribution. All hydrocarbon bearing reservoir levels and faults were interpreted in detail on seismic and a structural framework model was built for juxtaposition analysis and fault shale gouge ratio calculation. The interpreted hydrocarbon columns of the reservoirs in the field are mostly controlled by structural spill points, implying that the faults affecting the accumulation must be effectively sealed which is evident from calculated high SGR values. Some reservoirs are under filled, indicating that the faults are leaking. It was shown that these fault intervals have relatively low SGR. There is high degree of conformity between field hydrocarbon column heights and the stochastic column heights predicted from the shale gouge ratio. The calculated shale gouge ratio quite matched with the shale gouge ratio related column height distribution used in exploration. Top shale thickness played a role (impede up dip fluid conduit), but not a major factor in the Baka reservoirs as regards to column controls. A study of port in Rivers State

selected ports in Rivers State)” was carried out to empirically
determine factors that influence port performance. Primary and
secondary data were utilized in the analysis of research questions
and testing of hypotheses respectively .The primary data were
collected from seventy management staff of Onne Port Complex and
Port Harcourt port, all in Rivers state with the aid of questionnaire
.The secondary data were collected from Information
Communication Technology(ICT) department of the ports. Four
hypotheses were tested with the aid of E-view version 3.1,
econometric software. Hypothesis one revealed that there is a
significant positive relationship between turnaround time and
revenue generation by ports in Port Harcourt because at 5% level of
significance, the calculated t-statistic of 2.08 is greater than the
table value of -0.55.Also hypothesis two showed that there is no
significant positive relationship between cargo throughput and
revenue generation in the ports because at 5% level of significance,
the calculated t-statistic of -1.39 is less than the table value of
2.95. Hypothesis three revealed that there is a significant positive
relationship between ship traffic volume and revenue generation by
ports in Port Harcourt because at 5% level of significance, the
calculated t-statistic of 1.07 is greater than the table value of 0.91.
Hypothesis four revealed that there is no significant relationship
between berth occupancy and revenue generation by ports in Port
Harcourt because at 5% level of significance, the calculated t statistic of 1.05 is less than the criterion value of 1.47.It was also
found that inadequate infrastructure stalls port performance
efficiency .It is recommended that government should provide
infrastructure and security in the ports seeing the positive effects

Possible health implications associated with cosmetics: A review
The article is a special issue on who is afraid of microbesCosmetics are products applied to the body or face to improve appearance. They cleanse, beautify, promote attractiveness and alter the appearance of the body. The concept of beauty and cosmetics is as old as mankind and civilization. Assorted beauty products such as skincare products, hair products, fragrances, oral hygiene, and nail products, which may contain toxic chemicals that can be harmful to health are used especially by women. Most cosmetic products contain hazardous chemicals like Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Talcum, Parabens, Coal tar dye, Phthalates, Fragrance, Mineral oil, Triethanolamine and some heavy metals eg, Lead, Arsenic, Nickel, Cadmium, and Mercury. The bioaccumulation of these harmful chemicals and metals in the body over time has been associated with cancer, reproductive and developmental disorders, contact dermatitis, hair loss, lung damage, ageing, skin disease and reaction, allergies, and damage of nails. The deleterious chemicals and metals can enter into the body by inhalation of perfumes, deodorant, nail polish, scented powder, etc; by absorption through penetration of harmful chemicals from body creams, moisturizers, cleanser, eye shadow, etc. It can also be by ingestion of chemicals and metals in lip sticks, lip balm, lip gloss, etc. through the mouth
