The local GDQ method for the natural frequencies of doubly-curved shells with variable thickness: A general formulation
The present paper aims to evaluate the natural frequencies of several doubly-curved shells with variable thickness. The general theoretical formulation allows to take into account various higher-order Equivalent Single Layer (ESL) theories in a unified manner, including the Murakami's function to capture the zig-zag effect. Such approach is able to study very well the dynamic behavior of a laminated composite shell, even in the presence of a soft-core. A general expression, which is able to combine different kinds of variations (such as linear, parabolic, exponential, sine-wave, Gaussian and elliptic shapes), is introduced to define the thickness profiles. In addition, the same formulation can be employed to localize such variations and to define, consequently, ribbed structures. Since the adopted structural model is two-dimensional, the shell reference surface represents the physical domain in which the governing equations are written. Thus, the differential geometry is necessary to define accurately the doubly-curved surfaces at issue. The fundamental system is solved numerically by means of a local approach of the well-known Generalized Differential Quadrature (GDQ) method. The matrices that allow to solve the problem in hand are banded, since only a part of the discrete grid points is considered. As a consequence, the computational effort is lower, if compared to the corresponding global version. The accuracy, reliability and stability of the present approach are proved by the comparison with the results available in the literature and the solutions obtained through three-dimensional FEM models
Laminated Composite Doubly-Curved Shell Structures II. Differential and Integral Quadrature. Strong Formulation Finite Element Method
The title, “Laminated Composite Doubly-Curved Shell Structures. Differential and Integral Quadrature. Strong Form Finite Elements” illustrates the theme treated and the prospective followed during the composition of the present work. The aim of this manuscript is to analyze the static and dynamic behavior of thick and moderately thick composite shells through the application of the Differential Quadrature (DQ) method.
The book is divided into two volumes wherein the principal higher order structural theories are illustrated in detail and the mechanical behavior of doubly-curved structures are presented by several static and dynamic numerical applications. In particular, the first volume is mainly theoretical, whereas the second one is mainly related to the numerical DQ technique and its applications in the structural field.
The numerical results reported in the present volume are compared to the one available in the literature, but also to the ones obtained through several codes based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). Furthermore, an advanced version of the DQ method, termed Strong Formulation Finite Element Method (SFEM), is presented. The SFEM solves the differential equations inside each element in the strong form and implements the mapping technique typical of the FEM

Partendo dalla rappresentazione del drago nella letteratura religiosa nel primo XIII secolo, si tenta di analizzare la figura di Carlo I d’Angiò nella cronaca di Salimbene, impiegando in particolare il punto di vista delle influenze gioachimite nella formazione di Salimbene. In questo senso, la raffigurazione di Carlo come un drago potrebbe esse spiegata dai cambiamenti nel pensiero del vecchio frate riguardo al papato e alle sue scelte per il regno di Sicilia: il drago, simbolo dei mali all’interno della Chiesa, irrompe nella narrazione con lo scopo di mettere in guardia la gerarchia e tutti i cristiani col linguaggio e i simboli gioachimiti
