The ReadFree tool for the identification of poor readers: a validation study based on a machine learning approach in monolingual and minority-language children

    No full text
In this study, we validated the “ReadFree tool”, a computerised battery of 12 visual and auditory tasks developed to identify poor readers also in minority-language children (MLC). We tested the task-specific discriminant power on 142 Italian-monolingual participants (8–13 years old) divided into monolingual poor readers (N = 37) and good readers (N = 105) according to standardised Italian reading tests. The performances at the discriminant tasks of the “ReadFree tool” were entered into a classification and regression tree (CART) model to identify monolingual poor and good readers. The set of classification rules extracted from the CART model were applied to the MLC’s performance and the ensuing classification was compared to the one based on standardised Italian reading tests. According to the CART model, auditory go-no/go (regular), RAN and Entrainment100bpm were the most discriminant tasks. When compared with the clinical classification, the CART model accuracy was 86% for the monolinguals and 76% for the MLC. Executive functions and timing skills turned out to have a relevant role in reading. Results of the CART model on MLC support the idea that ad hoc standardised tasks that go beyond reading are needed

Italian as well as european pharmacies have undergone a process of transformation and redefinition of their role in recent decades, mainly due to the redesign of national health services by the institutions. The capillarity throughout the territories identifies them to all intents and purposes as a strategic partner of the national health service for the provision of a new model of care based on the concept of proximity. By acquiring new roles, the pharmacy site, its spaces, furnishings, and interior layout, thus find themselves having to respond to several, sometimes conflicting, purposes at once. Saling of products, dispensing of medicines, consultancy, and the supply of health services require different spaces and dynamics and can create misunderstandings in the expectations and relations between the pharmacist/retailer and the patient/customer. The contribution aims to understand the logics that have historically structured the pharmacy space over time, to analyse and systematise, through a selection of international projects, some possible practices in interior design that favour a better coexistence between the various souls of the contemporary pharmacy

Is any open innovation pattern emerging in the Italian fashion field? Preliminary evidence from some case studies

    No full text
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to explore whether open innovation is emerging in the Italian fashion industry. Design/methodology/approach: Based on available studies on innovation and open innovation, we first identified the main facets of open innovation within the industry investigated, such as the process of searching for new ideas, the involvement of external partners in the new product development process and the use of collaboration mechanisms between supply chain partners. Starting from these findings, the authors designed a semi-structured questionnaire that was used as a guideline for 15 case studies, carried out in the Italian fashion industry. Findings: The outcomes from the case studies allow drawing some conclusions about the emergency of open innovation in the fashion industry and the related patterns. Originality/value: Given its exploratory nature, this study is expected to start a debate about open innovation in the fashion industry, as well as to encourage future studies in this field

Gli stereotipi di genere nell'educazione di bambine e ragazze con disabilità. Questioni aperte e traiettorie possibili

The current picture of the disadvantage and discrimination of women with disabilities unfortunately makes it necessary to draw attention to the invisibility that crosses the existential dimension, often imprisoned in stereotypes rooted in different cultures. In particular, the educational situation of female students with disabilities confirms the need to reflect and adopt the perspective of inclusive education to respond to different needs, personal and collective peculiarities, including the issues of gender and disability. The contribution, within the theoretical framework of reference, envisages possible trajectories for educational inclusion: this is essential for a professional future and social inclusion of women with disabilities
