    Get PDF
The off-grid hybrid renewable energy generation system has lesser cost of energy with higher reliability when compared with solar Photovoltaic (PV) or wind energy system individually. The optimization design is worked out by reducing the Unit Cost Of Energy (UCOE) for different case studies and comparing the outcomes obtained by the use of HOMER-Pro (hybrid optimization model of electric renewable) software. The optimal cash flow analysis of hybrid energy system is based on the load patterns is discussed, solar irradiance (kW/m2) of site at proper latitude and longitude, wind speed and price of diesel, which is collected from a remote village in Khurda District, Odisha in India. Moreover, the optimization and sensitivity results of the system are find out by varying the input parameters like solar radiation, wind speed etc

Power Management in Microgrid: Analysis in Grid Connected and Islanded Mode of Operation

    Get PDF
This paper presents an investigation about the impact of integrating renewable energy based generation sources on the existing distribution system in terms of load sharing. The study of load sharing among various distributed generators (DGs) and utility grid has been performed for two cases: (a) when equivalent source based DG is connected and (b) when real PV/Fuel cell based DG is properly integrated to the distribution system. The real photovoltaic and fuel cell based DG do not behave as stiff current/voltage source due to disturbances happening either internally in system known as parametric uncertainties or due to external disturbances like weather conditions, load change etc. Further it has been observed with extensive analysis using simulation result, that even though all DGs are of equal capacity in their generation but when the load is either increased or decreased this doesn’t essentially guarantee that all DGs will equally share the active and reactive power demand

New Optimization Method of the MPPT Algorithm and Balancing Voltage Control of the Three-Level Boost Converter (TLBC)

    Get PDF
This paper is dedicated to studying the control of the Three Level Boost Converters (TLBC) and the optimization method of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) based a variable step. The main objective of the optimization is to find a compromise between the response time and the amplitude of the oscillations around the optimal point. The nonlinear behavior of the TLBC is manifested by the presence of the disturbances. For reasons of simplicity of the control, a linearization based on the dynamic compensation of the disturbance is proposed. On the one hand, a cascaded MPPT algorithm and a simple linear regulator allow adjusting the inductance current and a maximum power operation of the wind system. On the other hand, a second linear regulator ensures balancing of the output voltages. The paper proposes a new approach to the optimization of the Inc-Cond MPPT. The suggested contribution consists of using an exponential function of the power derivative to develop a variable step. The adoption of the variable step size according to the dynamics of the wind system implies a compromise between the response time and the amplitude of the ripples around the optimal point. The simulation results showed that a variable step size, especially in transient conditions and during a very rapid climate change recover the optimum power point within a reasonable time and suitable amplitude of the oscillations. The results achieved in this study show the ability of the proposed approach to extract the maximum power according to the available wind speed while guaranteeing a better efficiency. The developed study is summarized by the following points: (a) modeling the wind conversion systems, (b) detailing the control approach of the TLBC and presenting the variable step method (c) presenting the simulations results and evaluating the perf

Optimal Power Flow Based Economic Generation Scheduling in Day-ahead Power Market

    Get PDF
The present work deals with the economic rescheduling of the generation in an hour-ahead electricity market. The schedules of various generators in a power system have been optimizing according to active power demand bids by various load buses. In this work, various aspects of power system such as congestion management, voltage stabilization and loss minimization have also taken into consideration for the achievement of the goal. The Interior Point (IP) based Optimal Power Flow (OPF) methodology has been used to obtain the optimal generation schedule for economic system operation. The IP based OPF methodology has been tested on a modified IEEE-30 bus system. The obtained test results shows that not only the generation cost is reduced also the performance of power system has been improved using proposed methodology

    Get PDF
The power system loss minimization becomes more important as the need of power generation is more recent days. The loss minimization improves the voltage profile which improves the loadability of the system. In many types of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices static var compensators (SVC) are cost vise it is affordable and it improves the system performance with lesser size. Here SVC is optimally placed in a test system of 30 bus system. Genetic algorithm is used to find the optimal results

An STATCOM-based Hybrid Shunt Compensation Scheme Capable of Damping Subsynchronous Resonance

    Get PDF
The paper presents the potential use of supplemental control of a new economical phase imbalanced shunt compensation concept for damping sub synchronous resonance (SSR) oscillations. In this scheme, the shunt capacitive compensation in one phase is created by using a Single-Phase Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) in parallel with a fixed capacitor (Cc), and the other two phases are compensated by fixed shunt capacitor (C). The proposed arrangement would, certainly, be economically attractive when compared with a full three-phase STATCOM which have been used/proposed for power swings and SSR damping. SSR mitigation is achieved by introducing a supplemental signal into the control loops of single phase STATCOM. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed structure and supplemental control are demonstrated on a modified version of the IEEE second benchmark model for computer simulation of sub synchronous resonance by means of time domain simulation analysis using the Matlab program

    Get PDF
This paper presents the modeling, analysis and control of different DC-DC converter topologies to emulate the photovoltaic (PV) system. A PV emulator is basically a DC-DC converter having same electrical characteristics that of solar PV panel. The emulator helps to achieve real characteristics of PV system in a better way in an environment where using actual PV systems can produce inconsistent results due to variation in weather conditions. The paper describes different types of DC-DC converters like buck, Resonant and Quasi Resonant Converter. The complete system is modelled in MATLAB® Simulink SimPowerSystem software package. The Simulation results obtained from the MATLAB® Simulink SimPowerSystem software package for different topologies under steady and dynamic conditions are analyzed and presented. An evaluation table is also presented at the end of the paper, presenting the effectiveness of each topology

Steady State and Transient Analysis of Grid Connected Doubly Fed Induction Generator Under Different Operating Conditions

    Get PDF
This paper present steady state and dynamic (Transient) models of the doubly fed induction generator connected to grid. The steady state model of the DFIAG (doubly fed asynchronous induction generator) has been constructed by referring all the rotor quantities to stator side. With the help of MATLAB programming simulation results are obtained to depict the steady state response of electromechanical torque, rotor speed, stator and rotor currents, stator and rotor fluxes, active and reactive drawn and delivered by Doubly Fed Asynchronous Induction Machine (DFAIM) as it is operating in two modes i.e. generator and motor. The mathematical steady state and transient model of the DFIAM is constructed for three basic reference frames such as rotor, stator and synchronously revolving reference frame using first order deferential equations. The effect of unsaturated and saturated resultant flux on the mutual inductance is also taken into account to deeply understand the dynamic response of the machine. The steady state and dynamic response of the DFAIG are compared for different rotor voltage magnitudes. Also, the effect of variations in mechanical input torque, stator voltage variations are simulated to predict the stator and rotor currents, active and reactive power, electromagnetic torque and rotor speed variations

A Fast Strategy to determine the Physical and Electrical Parameters of Photovoltaic Silicon Cell

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a fast strategy to extract and exploit the electrical parameters of photovoltaic cell using the double-diode model. The polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) junction is chosen in this work due to the importance of its proprieties in industrial and economic fields. The proposed method to extract the solar cell electrical parameters contains two steps. The first is based on the graphical adjustments to choose the initial values of these parameters, and the second is numerical, using Modified Newton-Raphson’s algorithm. The obtained parameters extractions values are compared to the others methods and give a considerable agreement. Furthermore, we have developed a complementary analytical method to deduce both the minority’s carrier’s lifetime and the diffusion lengths through the diffusion and recombination current densities. The found values of these parameters are precisely comparable with theoretical models, and give very useful informations on the intrinsic quality of the studied cell
