Solving optimal reactive power problem by enhanced fruit fly optimization algorithm and status of material algorithm
This paper proposes enhanced fruit fly optimization algorithm (EFF) and status of material algorithm (SMA) to solve the optimal reactive power problem. Fruit fly optimization algorithm is based on the food finding behavior of the fruit fly. There are two steps in food finding procedure of fruit fly: At first it smells the food source by means of osphresis organ and it flies in that direction; afterwards, when it gets closer to the food site, through its sensitive vision it will find the food. At the beginning of the run by diminishing the inertia weight from a large value to a small value, will lead to enhance the global search capability and more local search ability will be in process the end of the run of the EFF algorithm. Then SMA is projected to solve the problem. Three state of material are solid, liquid, and gas. For evolution procedure direction vector operator assign a direction to every molecule consecutively to guide the particle progression. Collision operator imitates the collisions factor in which molecules are interacting to each other. Proposed enhanced EFF, SMA has been tested in standard IEEE 30 bus test system and simulation results show the projected algorithms reduced the real power loss considerably
Control DC link of single-phase dynamic voltage restorer
This paper is aimed to illustrate and expose the performance of single-phase voltage dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) control connected to the electrical distribution grid. This performance is easily expressed by compensating for the sags and the swells voltages, and regulating the voltage across the load by injecting a voltage component in series with the source voltage increased or decreased with respect to the source voltage the load-side waveforms are purely sinusoidal. The integration of serial and chopper converters makes the DVR capable of bidirectional power flow. The key to this topology is its ability to compensate for sagging and swelling of the voltage in the long run. The modeling of the DVR and the design of its controller is included in this document. Effectiveness of control systems and start-up sequence of DVR operation is verified by detailed simulation studies. The control method used in this work is based on the use of a booster chopper and two cascade loopsto generate the PWM command to control the chopper. The effectivenessof the suggested method is confirmed by the MATLAB/SIMULINK® simulation results and some prototype experiments. These results showthe capacity of the proposed DC link control
Role of heat source/sink on time dependent free convective flow in a coaxial cylinder filled with porous material: a semi analytical approach
In this article, the semi analytical solution for a fully developed time dependent free convective flow of a viscous incompressible fluid with heat source/sink in an infinite vertical coaxial cylinder saturated with porous material has been analyzed. The flow was induced by buoyancy forces due to temperature differences caused by the thermal insulation of the inner wall and constant heating of the outer wall. The Laplace transform technique was employed to transform the governing equation from time domain to the Laplace domain. Notwithstanding, a numerical inversing scheme known as Riemann-sum approximation (RSA), renowned for its precision has been utilized to transform the Laplace domain solution to time domain. The accuracy of the numerical technique employed was tested by presenting a comparison with the numerical values obtained using RSA, PDEPE, and steady state solution at large time. The effects of the various flow parameters on the flow formation are exhibited graphically. It is interesting to note that the fluid temperature and velocity increases as time passes. In addition, the velocity can be enhanced and minimized by gradually increasing Darcy number and the viscosity ratio respectively. However, the increase is seen to be more prominent when heat source is applied. The drag on both walls are seen to increase with increase in Darcy number, the reverse trend is observed with increase in the viscosity ratio
Distribution power system reconfiguration using whale optimization algorithm
This study discusses how to enhance the power distribution system and one of the most important ways to do that is by reconfiguration of the power system. Reconfiguration means changing the topology of the radial distribution network by changing the status of switches. The objective is to minimize the total power loss and enhance the voltage profile. Many optimization techniques were used to solve this problem such as classical optimization which is proven to be time consuming method and heuristic methods which are more efficient in our problem here. In this paper, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) which is one of the modern heuristic optimization techniques and it has high efficiency to solve discrete optimization problems, is used to get the optimum case in reconfiguration problem. WOA is applied to (33 bus system, 69 bus system, and 118 bus system) and results are compared to other heuristic methods
ANFIS-sliding mode control of a DFIG supplied by a two-level SVPWM technique for wind energy conversion system
A modified adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system sliding mode control (ANFIS-SMC) by using two-level space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) for doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is proposed in this article. ANFIS-SMC with SVPWM strategy improves the basic SMC performances, which features low stator active and reactive power and also minimize the total distortion harmonic (THD) of stator current. The computer simulation results, in Matlab, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy which improves the performance of the DFIG
Optimization with excess electricity management of a PV, energy storage and diesel generator hybrid system using HOMER Pro software
In this research, a standalone microgrid power system is proposed to electrify a small agricultural community in Palestinian territories. The load includes residential load and water pumping load. The community comprises about 30 households with some service buildings in addition to the water pumping system. The average load energy demand is 300kWh/day and the average power demand is 12.5kW, in the same context, the average energy demand for water pumping is 49kWh/day. The region has abundant solar radiation potential with a daily average of 5.4 kWh/m2. The optimum design was achieved using the HOMER Pro software. It took into consideration real incident solar radiation data, electrical demand profile for the community and water pumping system and market cost of all equipment. The optimization results showed that the best hybrid system among all feasible configurations is a PV system with an energy storage system combined with a diesel generator. The net present cost of the system is USD636,150 and the cost of energy (COE) produced is USD0.438/kWh. Sensitivity analysis is considered to study the impact of variations in PV cost, diesel fuel price, and maximum annual capacity shortages (MACS), the results showed that MACS has no effects. Energy management procedure is followed to reduce the excess electricity from 10.6% to 6.24% which in turn reduces the COE from 0.438 to USD 0.416/kWh
Renewable energy production based on solar power and magnetic field prototype in Bangladesh
Though modern technology of new era is mostly dependent on power sector entirely, the current energy scenario is showing a serious negative effect for the last few decades. Comparatively, Bangladesh is facing a precarious effect because of the scarcity of fossil-fuel dissipation. To accomplish the power demand resolution, a new type of power generation is proposed in this research paper. Magnetic flux and solar irradiation is combined to get maximum power outcome. The PV panel supplies the maximum power in the peak solar radiation and terminates the energy stream at night time. However, the floating generator can supply its maximum creation day or night time according to the movement of water wave tendency. For this reason, a PV-floating Generator based integrated renewable energy scheme is inspected in this venture. The experimental result shows its real-world validation (Maximum 14.5 Watt output) comparing to conventional methods
Power system fault identification and localization using multiple linear regression of principal component distance indices
This paper is focused on the application of principal component analysis (PCA) to classify and localize power system faults in a three phase, radial, long transmission line using receiving end line currents taken almost at the midpoint of the line length. The PCA scores are analyzed to compute principal component distance index (PCDI) which is further analyzed using a ratio based analysis to develop ratio index matrix (R) and ratio error matrix (RE) and ratio error index (REI) which are used to develop a fault classifier, which produces a 100% correct prediction. The later part of the paper deals with the development of a fault localizer using the same PCDI corresponding to six intermediate training locations, which are analyzed with tool like Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) in order to predict the fault location with significantly high accuracy of only 87 m for a 150 km long radial transmission line
Electron swarm parameters of SF6 under time varying electric fields
The electron swarm parameters in gases are necessary for the simulations of plasma processes. The sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) has enormous applications suitability, because of its excellent dielectric properties, it is a gas used extensively as an insulating gas in various electric devices. Consequently, we must dedicate a significant attention to studying the physical properties of this gas. An investigation has brought into effect on the electron swarms parameters in SF6 gas in time varying electric fields using a Monte Carlo simulation. Swarm parameters as a function of instantaneous E/N (E is the electric field and N the gas number density of background gas molecules) for different dE/dt are determined
Optimal placement of PMU for complete observability of the interconnected power network considering zero-injection bus: A numerical approach
This paper presents an approach to place the phasor measurement unit (PMU)optimally, which minimizes the setup cost of PMU. This methodology attains complete state estimation of the interconnected power networks. An integer linear programming (ILP) method is explored for the optimal PMU placement problem. It is used to determine the optimal location and minimum number of PMUs necessary to make the interconnected power network completely observable. ILP may provide many solutions if acquainting buses to zero injection buses are unhandled. In the case of more than one solution, a bus observability redundancy index and total system observability redundancy index is proposed to find the most promising solutions set for redundancy measurement. The proposed algorithm is applied to benchmark the optimal PMU placement solutions for the IEEE 14-bus, IEEE 30-bus, New England 39-bus, IEEE 118-bus, and NRPG 246-bus test systems. The obtained results of the proposed approach are compared with the existing standard algorithm, and it is observed that the proposed approach achieves complete observability of the interconnected power network under base-load conditions
