Fast band power measurement technique in Wi-Fi systems using spectrum analyzer

    Get PDF
Fast band power measurement technique used for measuring band power in wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) devices. The difficulty during testing the band power is burst mode transmission takes longer time to measure. A test jig or specialized tool required is costly, which allows continuous mode of transmission for power measurement. The delivered average power by a Wi-Fi device depends upon the data rate which can also vary during time. The procedure proposed hereby developed using a spectrum analyzer to measure band power in the burst mode, in order to ensure repeatable results and optimized to enable fast measurements at low cost, less time and above 90% accurate

Power quality improvement and analysis of interconnected bus system with PMU using VSM-STATCOM

    Get PDF
The traditional static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) present in the power grid to compensate instability problem will not be not able to maintain stability of the system due to fluctuations in point of common coupling (PCC) voltage and frequency variation that may result in poor synchronization of the grid. The solution for this is the improvement in conventional STATCOM to virtual synchronous machine–static synchronous compensator (VSM-STATCOM). In this paper an interconnected IEEE-14 bus system is considered for analysis with VSM-STATCOM for improvement in voltage profile on weakest bus of the system. In order to find the weakest bus, load flow analysis is carried out on the bus system using Newton Rapson method. A VSM-STATCOM is connected at that weakest bus in synchronization to the grid injecting reactive power. For the analysis a fault is introduced on any of the line and voltage profile of the weakest bus is observed with and without VSM-STATCOM. The VSM-STATCOM is also compared to a conventional control STATCOM which has no inertia module. A comparative analysis is carrier out with parameters of voltage magnitude and frequency of the weak bus taken into consideration. The magnitude and frequency parameters of conventional STATCOM and VSM-STATCOM are measured using phasor measurement units. The model is designed using MATLAB Simulink power systems library block sets with graphical user interface (GUI) environment

Hybrid MPPT-based predictive speed control model for variable speed PMSG wind energy conversion systems

    Get PDF
In this research, a predictive speed control (PSC) technique based on permanent magnet synchronous generators is proposed for variable-speed wind energy conversion systems (VS-WECS) (PMSG). The control approach that has been developed makes it possible to regulate mechanical and electrical variables concurrently within the context of a single cost function. The power converter will then use the optimum switching state that will result in the lowest possible cost function when it has been chosen. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms used in the proposed control approach are combined in order to achieve optimum efficiency. As a direct result of this, the conventional cascade structure of proportional-integral (PI) controllers has been removed, which results in an improvement in the system's dynamic responsiveness. In addition, predictive current control, also known as PCC, is implemented on the grid-side converter, also known as the GSC, in order to accomplish decoupled grid current control. Using MATLAB/SIMULINK, we analyze the performance of the suggested control methods and compare it to the performance of a traditional PI speed controller. The findings demonstrated that the MPC controller is superior than the PI controller in terms of its ability to handle system dynamics

ANFIS based AZSPWM methods for reduction common mode voltage in asynchronous motor drive

    Get PDF
Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is a popular technique in the field of variable frequency induction motor drives. It gives better working and good direct current bus utilization in comparison to the sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) method. However, it decreases harmonic fluctuations and generates high common mode voltage (CMV) fluctuations, which results in common mode currents inside the motor. Hence, the performance of the motor may be deteriorated. To reduce the CMV, this paper presents a family of active zero state PWM (AZSPWM) methods using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy interference system (ANFIS). The proposed approach uses a five-layer hybrid learning algorithm for training the network. The training data is obtained from the classical SVPWM method. To analyze the proposed PWM methods, simulation is carried out using MATLAB and evaluated

    Get PDF
The work carried out in this article essentially relates to the application of a synergetic control to the piezoelectric positioning mechanism or piezoelectric actuator (PEA). A LuGre model has been followed, capturing the most physical phenomena, in order to be able to follow the most realistic and representative model possible. From this model, which is then identified by particle swarm optimization (PSO), we apply the synergetic control technique, which is a very efficient control method that allows demonstrating the good functioning of the stability of nonlinear system in closed loop. The simulation results have been compared to those obtained when using sliding mode to confer the best performance in terms of tracking error and minimization of oscillations

Assessment of the influence of wind energy incorporated capacity benefit margin in ATC computation

    Get PDF
Available transfer capability (ATC) is an important metric used to measure the techno-economic viability of the transmission networks. Several methods have been presented in literature for ATC assessment, however, only some few articles incorporate CBM in ATC calculation and those few papers only considered conventional power generation sources in CBM evaluation. CBM is a function of the reliability of generating units. This paper presents the inter-area CBM calculation in the presence of wind energy source using graph theory technique and the results are incorporated in ATC computation using repeated power flow. CBM is incorporated in ATC computation as non-recallable and recallable power transfers. The results with and without CBM incorporation, in the presence of wind power system, are compared. The contribution of the paper is to study the influence of wind power (WP) integrated CBM on ATC evaluation. The results showed that the incorporation of CBM, in the presence of renewable energy, has a significant influence on ATC, without which ATC would be inaccurately estimated. Simulations using IEEE 24-Bus RTS is used to implement the proposed approach. This approach can be employed by transmission operators to assess the technoeconomic viability of the power network for possible power transactions

Elecetric vehicle batteries require direct current (DC) current for charging; hence the circuit alternating current (AC) is converted to DC by a battery charger. Battery charger mostly consists of a rectifier and DC-DC converter with a controller built in to serve as a protective circuit. A harmonic source load is a type of electric car charger. During the AC-DC change over method, harmonic current is introduced into the power system, affecting power quality. In this study, a charging station consisting of buck boost and a charging station consisting a KY Boost converter were simulated. To maintain output voltage of DC-DC converters constant controller is used, the controller is either PI or fuzzy logic controller. So, four models are developed and simulated which are buck-boost converter controlled by proportional-integral (PI)-controller, KY-boost converter controlled by proportional integral-controller, buck boost converter controller fuzzy logic controller and KY boost-converter controlled by fuzzy logic controller. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the four models is compared

With the ever-increasing load demand throughout the globe, natural renewable resources integrated into the existing network architecture for sustainable energy production are gaining considerable significance. Photovoltaic (PV) generation systems is one such technique to deal with the worldwide challenge for achieving green energy and low carbon footprint while simultaneously providing emission free electrical power from solar radiations. In this paper, we consider smart grid architecture connecting the end-users and the utility power plant with solar energy sources through an effective power optimization system. Multiple performance criteria associated with solar cell operation are evaluated and analyzed using the simulated annealing algorithm. These objectives considered for optimization include the cell saturation current, photo-generated current, material band gap, cell temperature, annualized life cycle cost, fill factor and cell efficiency. The formulated optimization conditions are specified in terms of two independent variables of cell ambient temperature and cell illumination. Moreover, the adaption of distinct values of short circuit current coefficients on the light originated current is measured. Through extensive simulation experiments, two disparate annealing procedures of fast annealing and Boltzmann annealing are applied coupled with three categories of temperature update schemes, viz. exponential, logarithmic and linear

Demand response planning in capacity market using microgrid

    Get PDF
Planning of the demand response has received special attention due to the cost of transmission lines development and shortage of energy resources beside the growth of demand. This research work is focused on the role of microgrid (MG) as an alternative solution for transmission system development and proposed a method for modeling of MGs in the capacity market. The results show that using of MGs leads to reduce the development costs of transmission system. Moreover, MGs cause a slight increase in the profitability of selling capacity to the consumers. These outcomes prove that continuing to grow the number and capacity of MGs in each area ultimately eliminate the inquiry of transmission network development and minimize the cost of capacity market
