Master Of Arts in Corporate CommunicationThis study explores the role of photography and videography (P&V) in corporate communication, focusing on the challenges, strategies, and impacts faced by start-up P&V companies in Kenya, particularly Ken Photos. The importance of visual communication in today’s corporate landscape is growing rapidly due to its ability to enhance audience engagement, create strong brand identities, and convey complex messages effectively. Despite this, empirical studies on the specific experiences of start-up P&V companies in developing regions such as Kenya remain limited. Therefore, this research seeks to bridge that gap by assessing the visual communication strategies employed by Ken Photos, examining the effects of these strategies on corporate branding and audience engagement, and identifying the opportunities and challenges unique to start-ups operating in the P&V industry. A mixed-methods research design was adopted to provide both quantitative and qualitative insights. Quantitative data were gathered using systematic sampling from approximately 100 clients of Ken Photos through structured surveys. The data focused on client perceptions of the effectiveness of P&V strategies in enhancing brand engagement and communication effectiveness. Qualitative data were collected via semi-structured interviews with the CEO of Ken Photos and an industry expert, providing insights into the strategic use of photography and videography, as well as the operational challenges faced by start-ups in the industry. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics for the quantitative data and thematic analysis for the qualitative responses. The findings reveal that 80% of clients rated Ken Photos’ P&V strategies as highly effective in enhancing brand engagement and communication, with most respondents emphasizing the emotional resonance and storytelling capabilities of videography. This demonstrates the power of visual storytelling in engaging audiences and communicating brand values. The theoretical framework of this study draws on Visual Communication Theory, which posits that visuals are more effective than text in conveying messages, influencing audience perceptions, and evoking emotional responses. The findings align with this theory, demonstrating that P&V strategies significantly enhance audience engagement and contribute to a more cohesive brand image. Additionally, the study incorporates the Resource-Based View (RBV), suggesting that start-ups like Ken Photos can gain a competitive advantage by leveraging creative skills, storytelling capabilities, and technological adaptability as valuable resources. This study contributes to the existing literature on visual communication by offering empirical insights into the specific experiences of start-ups in Kenya’s P&V industry. It emphasizes the importance of strategic visual content in corporate communication, particularly in developing regions where resources may be limited. The study also provides practical recommendations for start-up P&V companies, highlighting the need for investment in cost-effective visual communication tools, the potential of social media for audience engagement, and the benefits of collaboration with clients to produce tailored visual content. In conclusion, photography and videography play an essential role in corporate communication for start-up companies. Despite the challenges faced, start-ups like Ken Photos can successfully leverage P&V strategies to build strong brands, engage clients, and navigate the competitive business environmentDaystar University, School of Communicatio

    No full text
Degree of Bachelors of LawThe government of Kenya has struggled to address the emerging issues in the health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. Various authors have highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic, severely affected both the health care systems and the legal framework of labour-related laws in many jurisdictions, including Kenya which in turn exposed health care providers to work-related injuries. Notably, the government’s erratic and disorganized response hindered Kenya’s ability to deliver prompt, high quality healthcare throughout the pandemic. Putting it into perspective, the Kenyan government failed to supply adequate protective equipment, testing or other safety precautions necessary for an effective and safe response to the COVID-19 outbreak. This research seeks to conduct a legal analysis of how COVID-19 has affected labour-related laws in various jurisdictions, with particular focus on Kenya. Additionally, it seeks to provide recommendations to both national, regional and international health authorities on how to address the challenges faced by the Kenyan government in enforcing labour-related laws. To achieve this, the research will incorporate the use of a normative approach, which will assist in the collecting and delivering data mainly from secondary sources from national, regional and international health institutions and authorities. This approach will assist in making informed judgements, providing instructions to achieve the desire outcomes, explaining causality and defining the application of findings to the target population. Additionally, this study also intends to incorporate both comparative analysis of data obtained from other jurisdictions to provide a structured understanding of the topic by comparing and relating the labour-related laws in the selected jurisdictions to Kenya’s legal framework. In conclusion, this research intends to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the implementation of labour-related laws in Kenya’s health sector and propose possible reforms to make these laws more adaptable to the emerging issues related to pandemics.Daystar Universit

journal articleThis study examines the moderating effect of social media on online reviews and consumer purchasing intentions in Kenya. Data were collected from a convenient sample of his 304 consumers who had made previous purchases based on online reviews. The results show that online reviews have a significantly positive impact on consumer purchasing intentions. Additionally, social media platforms can positively influence consumer purchasing intention, amplifying the impact of online reviews. However, the relationship between online reviews and consumer purchasing intention has been moderated by social media, with less impact for consumers who use social media platforms more. These findings suggest that Kenyan businesses and marketers should monitor and act on online reviews on social media platforms to increase their influence on consumer purchasing intentions. Additionally, businesses should target consumers who are less likely to use social media platforms to maximize the impact of online reviews on purchasing intention

An Analysis of The Legal Position of The Doctrine of Legitimate Expectation in Kenya

    No full text
Degree of Bachelors of LawThe necessity for application of the doctrine of Legitimate Expectation arises when an administrative body by reason of a representation or by past practice or conduct stirred an expectation which would be within its powers to accomplish unless some superseding public interest comes in the way. However, a person who centers his claim on the doctrine of legitimate expectation, in the first instance, has to satisfy that he has relied on the said representation and the rejection of that expectation has worked to his detriment. The court would interfere only if the decision taken by the authority was found to be arbitrary, unreasonable or in gross abuse of power or in violation of principles of natural justice and not taken in public interest. But a claim based on mere legitimate expectation without anything more cannot ipso facto give a right to invoke this principle. The objective of this study is to analyse the legal position of the doctrine of legitimate expectation in Kenya and more so under of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 7 (2) of the Fair Administrative Action Act. Chapter 1 lays the background, states the objectives, significance and justification of the study. It also attempts to hypothesize and outline the research questions attributed to the study. Chapter 2 set outs the theoretical framework and research methodology. It also reviews the literature relating to the study and also points out at assumption and limitations envisaged in the study. Chapter 3 examines the Origins of the doctrine of legitimate expectation, Essential ingredients of Doctrine of Legitimate Expectation, the requirements to sustain a claim of legitimate expectation, types of legitimate expectations and how they differ. It also briefly examines the history of legitimate expectations in Kenya and a Kenya perspective of the doctrine of legitimate expectation. Chapter 4 outlines several recommendations emanating from the study, while Chapter 5 explains the findings of this study then goes ahead to make the conclusions.Daystar Universit

Dependency Syndrome Within Africa’s International Relations: A Hindrance to Sustainable Development in Africa

    No full text
Journal ArticleUsing a qualitative research methodology and exploratory approach to collect data, this study assessed the effects of dependency syndrome within Africa’s international relations and its repercussions for achieving sustainable development. The collected data were analysed using document and content analysis techniques. The study revealed that dependency syndrome within Africa’s international relations has led to aid dependency, political violence, and poverty. It has promoted laziness and an inferiority complex that affects the working conditions of Africans. Further, it has promoted corruption and affected the rule of law for good governance; yet, sustainable development cannot occur without it. Moreover, dependency syndrome has inhibited innovation and led to the destruction of the local industries that are key to achieving sustainable development. The results of the study found that dependency syndrome has prevented the development of a robust transport network system that could promote African trade relations, which would lead to sustainable development. The results also posited that chronic poverty and underdevelopment in Africa are perpetuated by the dependency syndrome within Africa’s international relations. The study recommended that Africa needs to overcome dependency syndrome and reform her international relations with external world. This would require establishing a continental sovereignty that enables the continent to have one common foreign policy within its planning diplomacy endeavour
