Background: Abortion in sheep causes significant economic losses and poses potential public health risks due to zoonotic pathogens like Brucella spp. Changes in the biochemical and hormonal levels of affected ewes may indicate problems in organ function and disruptions in reproduction. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the changes in specific biochemical and hormonal parameters in aborted and healthy ewes in Thi-Qar province, Iraq. Methods: Thirty ewes were chosen, consisting of 15 with recent abortions and 15 healthy controls. Blood samples were taken through jugular venipuncture, and serum was separated for analysis. Biochemical parameters, including creatinine, uric acid, ALT, AST, ALP, and GGT, were measured. Hormonal profiles, including FSH, LH, progesterone, and estrogen, were also assessed. Statistical analysis using Student’s t-test, considering p < 0.05 significant, was performed. Results: The aborted ewes showed significantly lower creatinine levels (0.583 ± 0.026 mg/dL) and higher ALT (29.40 ± 1.64 U/L) and AST (124.1 ± 2.92 U/L) compared to the controls (0.702 ± 0.039 mg/dL, 23.48 ± 1.58 U/L, 88.64 ± 4.72 U/L, respectively; p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in uric acid, ALP, GGT, or reproductive hormones (FSH, LH, progesterone, estrogen) between the groups. Conclusion: Abortion in ewes associated with brucellosis is linked to changes in liver and kidney function, while levels of reproductive hormones may remain stable shortly after the abortion. Monitoring biochemical parameters offers important insights into organ function and can help detect systemic effects early. Effective control measures, including vaccination and biosecurity, are vital for reducing reproductive losses and improving the health of the flock

Chronic Constipation in Children: Causes and Treatment Methods

    Get PDF
Chronic constipation in children is a common condition that significantly impacts both physical and emotional health. Various factors, including dietary habits, insufficient fluid intake, physical inactivity, and psychological stress, influence it. Despite its prevalence, there remains a gap in identifying the most effective treatment strategies for this condition. This study aims to address this gap by reviewing existing treatment methods and evaluating their effectiveness. A systematic review of clinical trials, expert opinions, and treatment guidelines was conducted to analyze common treatment approaches. The findings indicate that a combination of dietary modifications (increased fiber and fluid intake), pharmacological treatments (laxatives and stool softeners), and behavioral interventions (biofeedback and positive reinforcement) offers the most effective solution for managing chronic constipation. Moreover, an individualized approach tailored to the specific causes and needs of each child is essential for successful treatment. The study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive, personalized management plan that incorporates both medical and behavioral strategies to improve long-term outcomes and the quality of life for children suffering from chronic constipation

EMBRYOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR BASIS OF NEURAL TUBE FORMATION AND ITS DEVELOPMENTAL DEFECTS

    Get PDF
The formation of the neural tube represents a pivotal event in early embryogenesis, serving as the foundation for the central nervous system. This complex morphogenetic process, beginning during the third and fourth weeks of gestation, involves coordinated cellular movements, genetic regulation, and molecular signaling. Primary neurulation converts the neural plate into a closed neural tube through bending, elevation, and fusion of neural folds, while secondary neurulation extends the tube into the caudal regions. Key molecular pathways—including the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) and Planar Cell Polarity (PCP) signaling systems—govern the spatial and temporal control of neural plate shaping and closure. Disruptions in these processes result in neural tube defects (NTDs), which encompass a spectrum of congenital anomalies such as anencephaly, myelomeningocele, and spina bifida. These malformations often originate from impaired neurulation, abnormal gastrulation, or defective secondary tube formation. Clinically, NTDs are among the most serious developmental disorders, contributing significantly to perinatal morbidity and mortality. Maternal folate deficiency, by altering one-carbon metabolism and DNA methylation, remains a major modifiable risk factor. Early prenatal detection through biochemical screening and ultrasonography enables prompt intervention. This review synthesizes the embryological, cellular, and molecular mechanisms underlying neural tube development and highlights their clinical implications, emphasizing the importance of nutritional and genetic regulation in preventing neural tube defects

USE OF OSTEOPLASTIC MATERIALS IN IMPLANTOLOGY

    Get PDF
Osteoplastic materials play a fundamental role in implantology by restoring bone volume, improving osseointegration, and ensuring long-term success of dental implants. This study evaluates natural and synthetic grafts, focusing on their biological properties, mechanisms of bone regeneration, and clinical outcomes in alveolar ridge augmentation and sinus lift procedures. Through assessment of 120 patients undergoing guided bone regeneration, sinus augmentation, and ridge augmentation, the study explores graft integration rates, implant stability, complication profiles, and long-term functional outcomes. Findings demonstrate that osteoplastic materials provide predictable bone regeneration, enhance implant success, and reduce postoperative complications when used with proper surgical protocols. Biocompatibility, regenerative capacity, and resorption rate determine clinical efficiency, with xenografts and alloplastic materials showing comparable outcomes to autografts in controlled indications. The investigation focuses on clinical performance, regenerative potential, and long-term functional outcomes of osteoplastic materials used in implant-related bone reconstruction. Evidence from a structured patient cohort highlights the effectiveness of natural, synthetic, and combination grafts in rebuilding deficient alveolar ridges and stabilizing implant placement. Emphasis is placed on biological integration, structural maintenance, radiographic bone density improvement, and postoperative healing dynamics. Clinical observations confirm that contemporary grafting materials enable predictable new-bone formation, high implant stability, and reduced complications when combined with guided regenerative protocols and precise surgical handling. The findings support material-specific indications, demonstrating that bioactive substitutes and hybrid formulations can successfully replace or complement autogenous bone harvesting, minimizing surgical morbidity and expanding implant therapy applicability
