    Get PDF
The most prevalent chronic illnesses that persist throughout a patient's life are allergic diseases. In addition to significantly lowering patients' quality of life, they also result in increased absenteeism and decreased productivity, which raises societal costs. Therefore, one of the primary issues for public health is the effective and safe treatment of allergic disorders, which should be handled by all family medicine specialists, internists, and pediatricians in conjunction with allergists, otorhinolaryngologists, and dermatologists. The most popular application of antihistamines is in the management of allergies. There are several dozen medications on the pharmaceutical market, and their generic versions are heavily marketed as being highly successful in treating allergic conditions. What is the reality? What information comes from observational studies and clinical trials? Are all medications equally safe and effective for the patient? A panel of specialists from a variety of medical specialties stated that treating allergies improperly might put patients at serious risk and that drugs that appear to have similar effects can differ significantly. As a result, a group of specialists collected the most recent information from all of the scientific literature and examined the most recent guidelines and recommendations created by scientific associations. This essay summarizes these research and emphasizes how crucial it is for the patient to select the right medication to address his allergies

    Get PDF
This article presents a comprehensive evaluation of tonsillectomy outcomes in patients with recurrent tonsillitis, comparing postoperative results, complication rates, and quality-of-life improvements in both adult and pediatric populations. Tonsillectomy, one of the most frequently performed otolaryngologic surgeries worldwide, remains the definitive treatment for chronic or recurrent tonsillar infections unresponsive to medical therapy. The study assesses clinical effectiveness, frequency of infection reduction, postoperative morbidity, and overall patient satisfaction following tonsillectomy. Results demonstrate a significant decrease in the number and severity of throat infections, improved sleep quality, and enhanced overall well-being after surgery in both age groups. However, adults were found to experience higher rates of postoperative pain and longer recovery times. The findings confirm the long-term benefits of tonsillectomy for recurrent tonsillitis, supporting its continued role in modern otolaryngologic practice

MOLECULAR DETERMINANTS OF METABOLIC HOMEOSTASIS IN STEM CELL BIOLOGY

    Get PDF
Many tissues and organ systems possess inherent regenerative capacity that is sustained by resident stem cell populations. Accumulating evidence indicates that cellular metabolic homeostasis is a key determinant of stem cell fate decisions, tissue regeneration, and overall tissue maintenance. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms governing metabolic homeostasis in stem cells is essential for elucidating how tissue integrity is preserved and for identifying new strategies in disease treatment. This review highlights the interplay between metabolic regulation and molecular signaling pathways in stem cells. In addition, we explore potential therapeutic targets related to metabolic homeostasis, while outlining current challenges and future perspectives in the development of metabolism-based therapies

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder characterized by reproductive, metabolic, and hormonal disturbances. Among the common manifestations are menstrual irregularities and metabolic alterations, including insulin resistance. This study investigates the relationship between insulin resistance and menstrual cycle abnormalities in women diagnosed with PCOS, aiming to understand the extent to which metabolic dysfunction contributes to reproductive irregularities. By employing both clinical and laboratory assessments, the research identifies correlations between insulin sensitivity indices and the frequency and regularity of menstrual cycles. Findings reveal a significant association between elevated insulin resistance and disrupted menstrual patterns, highlighting the importance of early metabolic evaluation in PCOS management. These insights may inform individualized treatment strategies that address both metabolic and reproductive dimensions of the syndrome, ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) represents a multifaceted endocrine disorder that affects a significant proportion of women of reproductive age worldwide. Its pathophysiology involves a complex interaction between hormonal, metabolic, and genetic factors, often resulting in both reproductive and metabolic complications. Among the most frequently observed clinical features are menstrual cycle irregularities, ranging from oligomenorrhea to amenorrhea, alongside metabolic disturbances such as insulin resistance. This study aims to examine the correlation between insulin resistance and menstrual abnormalities in women diagnosed with PCOS, focusing on how hyperinsulinemia influences ovarian function and menstrual regularity. Using a combination of anthropometric measurements, hormonal profiling, and validated insulin sensitivity indices, the research identifies significant associations between metabolic dysfunction and reproductive irregularities. The findings underscore the necessity of early metabolic evaluation in PCOS management to optimize both reproductive outcomes and long-term health. The study emphasizes that targeting insulin resistance can contribute to improved menstrual regularity and reduce the risk of associated comorbidities, highlighting the clinical relevance of integrative treatment strategies

EARLY STRUCTURAL ALTERATIONS OF THE KIDNEY AND POTENTIAL BIOMARKERS IN DIABETIC NEPHROPATHY

    Get PDF
Diabetic nephropathy represents one of the most severe microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus and continues to be associated with rising prevalence and mortality worldwide. In current clinical practice, renal function is primarily evaluated using the albumin excretion rate and estimated glomerular filtration rate. However, substantial structural damage to the glomerulus often precedes the onset of microalbuminuria, while creatinine-based estimation of glomerular filtration rate may underestimate early renal impairment. Early identification of diabetic nephropathy is therefore critical for timely therapeutic intervention, preservation of renal function, and delay of disease progression. There is a pressing need for sensitive biomarkers capable of reflecting early kidney structural alterations. This review focuses on initial glomerular and tubular morphological changes in diabetic nephropathy, with particular emphasis on glomerular injury markers, including SMAD1 and podocalyxin, as well as tubular injury markers such as neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), netrin-1, and liver-type fatty acid–binding protein (L-FABP). We summarize currently investigated protein biomarkers, analyze their associated biological processes, and briefly review emerging proteomic and single-cell RNA sequencing approaches used to identify novel diagnostic markers in diabetic nephropathy
